ECO 17-002 Daniel the Dolphin and the Ocean Guardians.

ECO Solutions with Sara Troy and her guests CARMEN FORSBERG & ADAM MARS, on air from January 10th.

daniel-dolphin

Daniel Dolphin is a 3D-animated adventure film for the whole family inspired by the bestselling novels of Sergio Bambaren. Our goal is to push entertainment to a new level of audience participation and environmental awareness. Daniel Dolphin will share the larger message that we have to protect what we love: our oceans and each other.

Both Adam Mars and Carmen Forsberg (Silverlight Entertainment) are UBC Film Production Alumni and found the IP while travelling in South America.

“We met Peruvian novelist Sergio Bambaren five years ago and as he told us about Daniel Dolphin, the character from his best selling novels, we immediately knew we had found something extraordinary” says Carmen Forsberg, Producer.

The project has since garnered recognition from the National Screen Institute Feature’s First Program, Telefilm Canada, Harold Greenberg Fund and Creative BC.

“Our goal is for Daniel Dolphin to extend its impact well beyond an animated character, to create a new level of entertainment and driving force for social and environmental change” says Adam Mars, Writer-Director.

As ocean conservancy becomes a powerful topic of conversation, their goal is to position Daniel Dolphin as a key character who represents marine conservation, supporting global non-profits achieve their goals in education and sustainability through a give back model – a percentage of the funds from the film and all secondary revenues will be donated to conservation initiatives.

“We have come this far thanks to our supporters and the companies that have believed in us, and what Daniel Dolphin represents. Today we need a global audience to come together and push this timely vision through the finish line” says the Vancouver team.

The team has launched an Indiegogo campaign to help raise awareness and close the final development funds which will enable the Vancouver team to package the film and commence production.

ADAM MARS –

Adam is a multi award-winning Canadian writer/ director. His children’s short films have garnered multiple awards, aired on national television and played in more than thirty festivals worldwide. His first film “Chika’s Bird” (2005) was acclaimed nationally with numerous “best film” and “audience choice” awards. Adam has a degree in film production from the University of British Columbia where he won honours for his cinematography. Adam holds a second film degree from Capilano University. In 2008, through his love of CGI, he pitched and oversaw the build of a state-of-the-art 3D and VFX Animation facility and Faculty in Lima, Peru. The program was created in association with Studio Arts, Los Angeles. Adam currently works in the film industry as main camera operator (IATSE 669) for EPK units.

CARMEN FORSBERG –

With a background in advertising as an assistant director for many high profile commercial productions, Carmen decided to commit her passion to filmmaking and large-scale production. She holds a film production diploma from the University of British Columbia, and Bachelor in Communication Science with honours in Marketing from the University of Lima. Her current interest resides in producing high-concept projects with strong commercial viability across all media platforms. She has worked closely with Dolby Canada’s Image and Research Technology Department in the development of HDR software, organised and managed events for the Vancouver film industry and along with Adam Mars built and currently consults for one of South America’s most complete 3D and VFX programs.

OUR TIME AT UBC

As UBC Film Production Alumni we cannot help but look back upon our time at UBC with some nostalgia. Brock Hall was the Film Production ‘hub’ back then, the old building saw endless hours of editing, countless film productions – some more organized than others – detailed conversations about story, characters, directors .. many late lunches and skipped dinners.. it was the fuel that drove us forward.

While at UBC Adam not only directed the short films mandatory for the production degree, he also managed to secure funds from CityTV (for the second time) and a NFB FAP program grant to direct a much larger short film. For “Blue” he recruited most of his classmates (as any resourceful filmmaker would) and worked closely with locations managers in the University to bring his vision to life – and with the use of CG even turned the ‘bus loop’ into a sky train station. Adam’s films have always been ambitious, but with unstoppable passion people follow his lead.

Carmen had come from a background in advertising (as an assistant director) and for her, film was the perfect medium to let creativity shine. Coming from South America, UBC was a city within a city and the Film Program was family. Carmen not only produced several of her peers’ short films but also UBC’s own POV (Persistence of Vision) Film Festival with fellow producer Cat Mills. For Carmen it was always about the challenge, being outside of a comfort zone, pushing boundaries in stories and finding ways to reach as many people as possible. During her last year at UBC she won Air Canada’s Student Film Festival ‘Destination Inspiration Award ‘ which allowed her short documentary film to play in Air Canada flights worldwide.

17-002 “The Wilds” singing for the Planet

“for the LOVE of Music”  with host Nathen Aswell and his guests Holly Arntzen and Kevin Wright – The Wilds, on air from January 10th.

the-wilds

The Wilds is led by singer/songwriters Holly Arntzen—vocals, dulcimer, piano, and Kevin Wright—vocals, percussion, sax. When Holly and Kevin sing and write songs together, think Joni Mitchell meets Bon Scott (of AC/DC.) An unlikely combination, but one that bears rich sounds, energy and a unique musical perspective.

They are the core members of the Artist Response Team (ART), which produces a steady stream of Voices Of Nature School Music Programs and Community Concerts throughout western Canada and beyond. They are joined by throngs of children singing out for nature.

420432_286269494816731_759627863_nThe Wilds is featured in the 1-hour TV special about water conservation, called Water for Life, which was broadcast on CTV-TWO in Alberta, and PBS out of Spokane. Watch it here:

Each year the Wilds can be found tromping up and down one watershed or another, singing their songs of salmon, rivers, oceans and social justice. In spring 2015 it was the Up Your Watershed! tour in the Fraser Basin, from Prince George on down to the coast. In June 2016 they completed the Rock The Salish Sea Tour to seven coastal BC communities, working with local schools and producing major concerts, singing out for the inland ocean between Vancouver Island and the mainland.

The sound of the Wilds is Folk Pop to Rock Your World—the folk/blues of Holly’s slide dulcimer, mixed with Kevin’s hard-hitting Cajon and congas, and lit up by rich vocal harmonies. They’re on a mission: have the best possible time singing songs and playing music and rockin’ out for the Earth!

Take a listen to some of their songs here

ECO17-001 Energime University Mentoring a New Generation.

ECO-SOLUTIONS with Sara Troy and her guest Bill Sosinsky aired from January 3rd/17.

1002155_522249374512878_1657022463_n

 Energime University Launch:

What would happen if we suddenly made specific education and training that supports sustainable economic development and environmental stewardship available to everyone, everywhere? What effect would it have on our ability to re-establish a sustainable balance back to our planet?

Energime University has the single mission of providing the means by which we mentor and empower our global population with the critical skills necessary to carry out this monumental effort. By creating a central education platform that connects the world in a unified and structured approach, we can manage our finite resources and protect our fragile environment. Energime University will prepare our future workforce by establishing a learning annexeworldwidede through a vast inter-connective partnership. This network will be supported by a growing and robust online capability created to foster this global collaborative effort.

14872424_1181776028596492_1791289057_nRight now the Energime University Platform is in its initial development period which has taken the better part of two years and should be fully operation by the fall of 2017. This process will include populating the site with courses offered and taught by our many Education/training partners, the development of our own core platform, and the full implementation of the interconnected support network that composes the Energime Community.

To be clear, Energime University currently offers courses and content on a non-accredited basis.  It is our plan to be a fully accredited education/training platform in the next few years once we expand our curriculum sufficiently and acquire an existing College/University through which we will offer those accredited courses.  That being said, many of the courses we will and currently offer are the same courses taught at major Universities on an accredited basis. It is our plan to offer this exceptional content at greatly reduced prices(Or free to those who cannot afford)to students and workers globally such that we can spread this knowledge. That empowerment is our core mission, not providing the means by which a student acquires an MBA.

TSM 16-47 Sustainable FOOD for the Globe

image

Their Story Matters with Sara Troy and her guest Norma Burson, aired from November 22nd

In my heart and so, l I am happiest in a garden. I believe that a garden is the closest we’ll get to God while here on Mother Earth.

Journaling since the age of 12, it wasn’t until I reached the age of 58 that I began writing books. Now I am working on my 3rd book, “Sustainable Food for the Globe; Future Pioneers, The Children”.

Sustainable Food for the Globe stands for wholesome food production, rescuing wasted food and educating our “Future Pioneers” to become ethical stewards of all things found us – here our home, Mother Earth. As a co/founder of Energime University she believes in our ability to sustain our world through education and innovations.  http://energimeuniversity.org

norma-burnson-portrait-pdf

On Earth Day 2015 the second book in the series Sustainable Food for the Globe, Everyday People Producing Food in Abundance became an overnight 5 star bestseller.

In 2013, Mrs. Burnson received the Delegate Award from The International Women’s Leadership Association in recognition of services rendered to our country as a U.S. Navy Veteran and for demonstrating leadership in both national and international business arenas; for dedication to her community as a college professor and mentor; for being a sustainable food activist and humanitarian.

Earlier this year, Mrs. Burnson was invited to participate in The United Nations Environment Assembly, in short UNEA.

The UNEA is the house where representatives from all peoples and sectors of our societies such as parliamentarians, local authorities, indigenous peoples, civil society, business and the private sector, the scientific and academic community – and all peoples in general— can have a say in the design of the solutions for our planet’s health.

In 2014, she was active in the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals Assembly, and in 2013 participated in the United Nations the World We Want Assembly. Continue reading
