ReAlign with Kassandra Hamilton MH26-04.

Mental Health Awareness with Sara Troy and her guest Kassandra Hamilton, on air from January 27th

I do this work because I know what it’s like to look successful on the outside while feeling disconnected, exhausted, and unsure on the inside. After navigating burnout, grief, identity-loss, and the pressure to hold everything together, I realized that real change doesn’t come from pushing harder. Instead, it comes from listening inward and restoring safety, clarity, and self-trust in the body and nervous system. Today, I support high-achieving women who are tired of living on autopilot to reconnect with their energy, boundaries, and purpose, so they can build lives that feel as good internally as they appear externally. My message is simple but powerful: alignment is something you remember, not something you earn.

Kassandra Hamilton (known as Kazz) is an alignment coach, speaker, author, and local singer-songwriter whose work is grounded in her background in global and community health and her lived experience of burnout and reinvention. Through years working within health systems, she witnessed how burnout, over-functioning, and disconnection are often treated as individual problems rather than systemic and nervous-system realities; a perspective she shared in her recent TED-style talk. That insight became the foundation for her Inside Out Framework™, which supports sustainable wellbeing by addressing regulation, boundaries, and self-trust before performance, productivity, or purpose.

Today, Kassandra works with high-achieving women who appear capable and successful on the outside but feel depleted or misaligned on the inside. Through the Inside Out Framework™, she helps clients restore energy, reconnect with their bodies, and make aligned choices that honour both their humanity and their leadership. Her work spans private coaching, group programs, speaking engagements, and experiential healing.

Alongside her coaching practice, Kassandra is a practicing healer offering Ayurvedic head massage, bio-energy healing, and sound healing, and works weekly at Triple Moon in downtown Nanaimo. She is also a volunteer with restorative justice programs for youth, supporting accountability, repair, and reconnection. Outside of her professional work, she is a storyteller and musician who writes and performs original music, hikes with her dog, and loves learning about new cultures through travel.

MH25-50. Reconnection with Colleen Franklin

Mental Health Awareness with Sara Troy and her guest Colleen Franklin (RCC), on air from December 16th

I became a counsellor because I wanted to help people understand themselves and their struggles in a way that opens the door to healing, growth, and joy again. So many people move through life feeling disconnected from who they really are, and I’m passionate about helping them reconnect with themselves and find a steadier, more hopeful way forward. My work focuses on supporting people who are carrying trauma, burnout, and overwhelm—people who often feel lost in the noise of life and need a space to breathe and realign. I want my clients to feel seen, heard, and valued for the incredible worth they bring into the world. I deeply believe people have a strength within them they don’t always recognize. They have already survived and overcome so much, and yet they continue to show up, strive, and fight for something better. They deserve the support that honours that resiliency and helps them move toward the life they want.

I’m a Registered Clinical Counsellor based in Nanaimo, BC, and the founder of Sandstone Counselling. My path into this work grew from a lifelong curiosity about how people make sense of their emotions and navigate the harder seasons of life. Over time, I’ve built a practice grounded in compassion, clarity, and a deep belief that people deserve to feel reconnected to themselves and feel joy in their life. Today, I support adults working through trauma, burnout, overwhelm, grief, and life transitions, as well as first responders. Outside of my counselling work, I’m a mom, a nature lover, and someone who values calm, connection, and authenticity. Whether I’m in session or out in the community, my goal is to create spaces where people feel supported, understood, and empowered to move forward in a way that feels true to them.

MH25-49. Michelle Von Ruden’s Light-Switch Moments

Mental Health Awareness with Sara Troy and her guest Michelle Von Ruden, on air from December 9th

I’ve been shaped by the moments when life shut off my light without warning—the phone call, the car accident, the losses, the setbacks, the seasons that forced me to slow down, reevaluate, and rebuild from the inside out. Those light-switch moments didn’t just interrupt my life; they revealed who I was and who I was becoming. They taught me that resilience isn’t about pushing harder—it’s about rising differently. Today, I help ambitious women and leaders move through their own light-switch moments: the overwhelm, the transitions, the unexpected shifts that leave them feeling stuck or disconnected from who they want to be. My message is this: you may not control when the light goes out, but you can choose how you turn it back on. And when you do, you don’t just return—you rise stronger, clearer, and more aligned with the life you’re meant to lead.

MH25-49. Jaime Taylor/ Struggles with Mental Health

Mental Health Awareness with Sara Troy and her guest Jamie Taylor, on air from December 9th

I have struggled with mental health my whole life. I know what it feels like to feel that there is no other way out but ending your life. I know what it feels like to lie in bed with your whole body aching because you are so sad and lost. I know what it feels like to be embarrassed, hide behind humour, hide behind a smile and then go home and cry. I know what it feels like to feel alone. If it wasn’t for the love I had for my mom and my sister at the time, I don’t know if I would still be here. Then I had children, so my why to keep going grew bigger.

I can see and feel peoples sadness. When someone hurts, I hurt. A stranger, a friend, a family member, it doesn’t matter. I have always been this way. I know how it feels to be in that place, and I know what it feels like to work your way out of it. Just wait, one more day…..If I can help one person in recognizing, their worth, it’s worth it to me.

MH25-15. Paul D Corona, MD, The Corona Protocol:

Mental Health Awareness with Sara Troy and her guest Paul D Corona, MD, on air from April 15th

Paul D Corona, MD, a Southern California-based physician who is reshaping the future of psychiatry and family medicine? With over 30 years of medical experience, Dr. Corona is not your typical physician. Starting his career in family medicine, he seamlessly transitioned into psychiatry, ultimately pioneering an approach he calls “Mind and Body Healing.”

Dr. Corona has authored three books in his “My Mind & Body Healing” series, offering revolutionary insights into the treatment of mental health and challenging conventional methods that have been stagnant for decades.

Are you tired of one-size-fits-all mental health solutions? Dr. Corona offers an unconventional yet tried-and-true approach to psychiatry, which includes the off-label use of medications, combined treatment methods, and aggressive strategies that get results. Above all, he believes that mental health treatment is not about quick fixes but a carefully calibrated balance that leads to holistic healing.

In an insightful interview, Dr. Corona sheds light on what makes his treatment methods revolutionary in the realm of psychiatry, offering a refreshing divergence from traditional models. Central to his practice is Mind Body Medicine, a holistic approach that acknowledges the profound interconnection between physical health and mental well-being. He challenges the conventional psychiatric model, questioning its dependency on symptom-based diagnoses and long-term pharmaceutical solutions, advocating instead for root-cause healing. Known for embracing the off-label use of medications, Dr. Corona sees this as a practical necessity rather than an anomaly, emphasizing real-world patient results over rigid protocols. With a foundation in family medicine, he brings a unique perspective to psychiatry, understanding the body as a whole system and often identifying underlying medical conditions that manifest as mental health issues. He also explores the role of supplements and complementary therapies, cutting through the commercial noise to highlight what truly supports recovery. In an age increasingly attuned to holistic health, Dr. Corona’s methods align with modern wellness trends while remaining grounded in science and compassion. Lastly, he boldly addresses the societal implications of mental health, arguing that early and integrative intervention in psychiatry could help curb crises like school shootings and suicides, underscoring the need for proactive, not reactive, care.
