NA24-32. Chandler Picot’s Addiction Recovery

Nature of Addictions with Sara Troy and her guest Chandler Picot, on air from August 6th

My name is Chandler Picot, and I am a 32-year-old resident of the wonderful state of North Carolina. Growing up in the small town of Greenville, I later became a Certified Peer Support Specialist and a Certified Drug and Alcohol Abuse Counselor after spending over fourteen years in active addiction. My recovery journey, fueled by the grace of Jesus Christ, involved a robust 12-step program, intensive therapy, rehab, and a halfway house, which collectively gave me a fighting chance at a “normal” life.

Over a few years ago, I moved to Siler City with the goal of centralizing my e-commerce business. After months of commuting through Siler City, I recognized the benefits of living in a centrally located county within North Carolina. The potential for growth and the warmth of its residents made me fall in love with the city. I actively participate in online support groups and forums, assisting people with various behavioral health issues.

One of my long-time passions is helping others in any way possible. You might often find me and my closest friends volunteering at local food pantries, which we do weekly. I take great joy in seeing my fellow man receive the help they desperately need. The non-profits and charities I work with provide food, clothing, and housing to Siler City residents on an ongoing basis. As a Qualified Professional in the Substance Abuse field, I witness daily how severe neglect has led to the decay of many North Carolinians, especially in Siler City. I frequently advocate on both citywide and state levels for those who have been neglected and ignored for decades.

My entrepreneurial spirit is evident in my successful e-commerce business and various entrepreneurial ventures, including my role as the President of Chatham Weekly. I am also a fervent advocate in the substance abuse and mental health fields, striving to support those in need. My journey of sobriety, entrepreneurship, and advocacy began at Pitt Community College, where I graduated with an Associate in Arts in 2018.

Driven by a desire to create impactful change, I transitioned into politics, seeking to influence effective policy-making to address pressing issues facing North Carolinians. Before May 25, 2018, I battled active addiction, but today I proudly stand as a beacon of recovery, having maintained sobriety for over five years. I remain deeply connected to my recovery community, offering support and hope to those on their own paths to wellness.

In the depths of my darkest days, I found solace in the unwavering love and guidance of Jesus Christ. His divine intervention ignited a transformative journey that rescued me from addiction and instilled a profound sense of purpose. Through my recovery and community advocacy work, I strive to demonstrate my love for Jesus Christ by embodying His teachings and spreading His message of hope and redemption.

I put my faith into action by volunteering at a drive-thru food pantry, where I provide essential food supplies and share words of encouragement and faith with those in need. Advocacy has also become a way of life for me, as I serve at the North Carolina Legislative Building, raising my voice to support accessible treatment options, improved education about addictions, and the availability of community resources.

As a Peer Support Specialist and a Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor, I am privileged to demonstrate Christ’s love in my daily work. By providing guidance, empathy, and understanding to individuals battling addiction, I strive to be a source of hope and inspiration. My faith in God guides me in taking tough stands on issues affecting people, giving me the courage to confront adversity and bring about positive change.

24-32. Love the Feeling

Sara’s View of Life with Sara Troy, on air from August 6th

With my son’s wedding coming up, love is truly in the air. It’s so exciting to witness two people in love joining together. Marriage is the solidifying of love, a testament to the abundance of love needed to take that step.

This occasion reminds me of the love we once knew, and, if we’re fortunate, the love we still have. I do miss the love of a partner, but I don’t rely on it to define or comfort me. My love has grown into a companionship with myself. When we embrace self-love, even if others don’t see it, it becomes a source of comfort. It means accepting ourselves for who we are, what we are, and why we do what we do. If others still don’t recognize it, that’s not on us.

When you come from a place of love, everything gains more meaning and purpose. Love is the generator; the more you love yourself, others, life, and your purpose, the more love you generate. It just keeps growing.

So find yourself with a loving approach, no more chastising, but lovingly embrace the gift YOU ARE, not what others want you to be. Love will make your world go round, when you love to live, love to see the possibilities, and love each other even in disagreements, for love it the keep to living a joyous life.

QS24-32. Dara McKinley Love to Forgive

Quantum Spirituality with Sara Troy and her guest Dara McKinley, on air from August 6th

The truth is: We all have someone or something to forgive – perhaps even ourselves. We know it’s good to forgive but we might not know how to do it. In 2012, after facing a personal challenge that her extensive skills and education couldn’t resolve, Dara searched online for a “forgiveness how-to” and was only met by a lot of “why” one should forgive. When a logical path came to her and after completing it, she felt peaceful and free for the first time in three years.

This epiphany led her to dedicate herself to researching and teaching this powerful concept, helping others process stuck emotions and move forward with passion and clarity.

Dara McKinley has studied and worked in the realm of spirituality and health for over three decades and possesses a graduate degree in Contemplative/Buddhist Psychology. In 2012, difficult life circumstances pointed her to forgiveness where she realized that many spoke prolifically about why one should forgive but no one spoke of how. Her background enabled her to successfully create and follow a forgiveness path that worked, but in the years that followed, the experience made her see some significant themes. In particular, she saw how mainstream forgiveness understanding (pardoning, ceasing anger, having compassion, and letting go) was obscuring the forgiveness path. She also saw that people who identified as spiritual-but-not-religious required a forgiveness path that was clear, and logical. This inspired Dara to devote her professional life to understanding forgiveness’ infrastructure and to making forgiveness the realm of spirituality and health it was always meant to be.

BB24-31. Jamie Martin – JEM Consulting.

Building Your Business with Sara Troy and her guest Jamie Martin, on air from July 30th

My journey in leadership began through working for bosses and companies that treated their employees poorly. Witnessing this mistreatment sparked a desire to change the status quo. I immersed myself in the study of servant leadership and adapted my leadership style to prioritize serving others. This approach centers on treating my team with empathy and understanding, particularly concerning mental health. By fostering a supportive environment, I focus on encouragement and perspective rather than immediate accountability and judgment. This leadership philosophy benefits everyone in the organization, promoting a culture of respect and compassion

“People will move mountains, when they feel valued, respected and understood”

Jamie Martin’s professional journey commenced at Starbucks, where foundational skills in customer service and operational excellence were cultivated from the ground up as a Barista. This early experience ignited Jamie’s passion for retail operations and laid the groundwork for a career marked by leadership and community advocacy.

Transitioning from Starbucks, Jamie advanced to roles at Walmart, initially serving as an Acting Store Manager and Assistant Store Manager. Here, Jamie gained extensive experience in managing large-scale operations, overseeing teams, and optimizing business processes. This tenure at Walmart provided invaluable insights into multi-unit retail management and strategic leadership.

Jamie’s career then took a pivotal turn at the BC Liquor Distribution Branch (LDB), where Jamie excelled as a Senior Store Manager and Regional Manager. Managing operations across 20 locations within a unionized environment, Jamie not only oversaw multimillion-dollar budgets and led teams of up to 400 staff but also played a crucial role during the legalization of cannabis in British Columbia. Jamie navigated complex regulatory landscapes, developed compliance strategies aligned with the Cannabis Act, and fostered partnerships with government entities.

Beyond professional achievements, Jamie is deeply committed to community engagement and advocacy for First Nations. This commitment is exemplified through active involvement with the community engagement and advocacy for First Nationswhere Jamie collaborates on initiatives aimed at cultural awareness, economic development, and supporting local initiatives. Jamie integrates Indigenous training and community partnerships into business practices, ensuring a holistic approach to leadership that respects and promotes diverse perspectives.

In 2024, Jamie founded Jem Consulting as Owner/Operator, leveraging expertise in regulatory compliance, government policy, and community engagement. At Jem Consulting, Jamie focuses on optimizing operational processes, providing strategic guidance for start-ups, and enhancing human resources practices. Jamie’s entrepreneurial spirit and dedication to fostering inclusive workplaces continue to drive growth and empower teams, all while advancing initiatives that positively impact both business outcomes and community well-being. Jamie Martin’s career progression—from Starbucks barista to accomplished business leader and advocate for First Nations—is a testament to resilience, innovation, and a steadfast commitment to making a meaningful difference in retail operations and beyond.
