RW19-35 Self-care during stressful times with Dr Kiti

Taking Care of Ourselves During Life’s Transitions

By Dr. Kiti Adderly, Recovering the WHOLE of You

Life’s transitions, whether they are returning to school, starting a new job, or stepping into a new phase of life, can indeed be overwhelming. But they also present us with unique opportunities to rediscover and nurture our inner selves. Here are some tips to make these transitions smoother and more fulfilling:

  1. Acknowledge Your Feelings: It’s okay to feel overwhelmed, scared, excited, or unsure. Allow yourself to experience these emotions without judgment. Recognizing and naming your feelings can be the first step in managing them.
  2. Establish a Routine: While spontaneity has its merits, a consistent routine can provide comfort during times of change. Starting and ending your day with a few moments of mindfulness can anchor your thoughts and emotions.
  3. Practice Self-care: Find activities that relax and rejuvenate you. This could be reading, taking a bath, meditating, or even going for a walk. Setting aside time for these activities ensures you’re in the best mental space to tackle challenges.
  4. Stay Connected: Reaching out to friends, family, or support groups can provide invaluable emotional support. Sharing your feelings and experiences with trusted individuals can lessen the burden of transition.
  5. Set Realistic Expectations: Understand that there might be a learning curve or adjustment period during any transition. Allow yourself the space to make mistakes and learn from them.
  6. Limit Exposure to Stressors: While you might not be able to eliminate every source of stress, being conscious about reducing exposure can be beneficial. This might mean cutting down on news consumption, taking breaks from social media, or even setting boundaries with demanding individuals.
  7. Educate Yourself: If you’re stepping into a new phase, gather as much information as you can. The more knowledgeable you are about a situation, the more empowered and confident you’ll feel.
  8. Stay Physically Active: Exercise can be a wonderful stress reliever. It not only boosts your mood through endorphin release but also helps in keeping your body fit and active.
  9. Seek Professional Help if Needed: If feelings of overwhelm persist or lead to prolonged periods of sadness or anxiety, consider seeking the assistance of a therapist or counselor. They can provide coping strategies tailored to your specific needs.
  10. Practice Gratitude: Focusing on what you’re grateful for can shift your perspective from what’s lacking or challenging to what’s abundant and positive in your life.

Remember, it’s okay to ask for help when you need it. Transitions are a natural part of life, and with the right tools and mindset, they can be a source of immense personal growth and opportunity. Dr. Kiti Adderly emphasizes the importance of holistic well-being, and these tips can be the stepping stones towards a healthier and happier you, even during periods of change.

MisUnderstanding Dementia

Dementia is not a disease in itself. Rather, it is a broad name referring to a long-term and gradual deterioration of a person’s mental ability.

The condition can be severe enough to obstruct the sufferer’s daily life.

Dementia occurs when the brain cells stop working as they should, affecting the person’s ability to think, remember, and communicate. Its usual symptoms include difficulty of reasoning and thinking, gradual memory loss, and deteriorating communication skills.

The most common type of dementia is caused by Alzheimer’s, which accounts for 60 – 80% of the cases.

As a Holistic Nutrition Practitioner. Ann’s interest and passion for natural health began over thirty years ago while working as a Registered Nurse Midwife in the Bahamas. After observing
the positive outcome of a natural plant-based diet in active seniors, she initiated this diet in herown family. So intrigued with the importance of nutrition in health, she earned a PhD in Holistic
Nutrition, while still working as a Public Health Nurse/Health Educator.
Since retirement, Ann delved full time into holistic nutrition and offers clients a healthier alternative in managing lifestyle diseases such as hypertension, diabetes, and obesity. She now helps clients get to the root cause of their health issues and not merely address the symptoms.
Today she will share with you how the Metabolic Typing diet can powerfully improve your health. Ann is a Certified Metabolic Typing Advisor, Functional Diagnostic Practitioner Transformational Coach and also a certified member of the American Association of Drugless Practitioners.

I empower health-minded, busy women, to manage their hormones, digestive issues, stress, weight, and help them boost energy levels, so that they can be their healthiest, and look and feel their best.

RW19-30 Emotional Well-being in Education with Hyacinth Jones

Recovering the Whole of you, with Kiti Adderley and her guest Hyacinth Jones, Taimana Leadership, Consulting for Families, Schools and Corporations. On Air July 18th

Emotional well-being in parenting and educational institutions is often overlooked and children, parents and teachers are suffering because of it. As the pressure mounts to perform and earn points/rewards/salary in our career or educational pursuits, for presumed material comfort, so too do the stress levels and unmet emotional needs of the children, parents and educators.  In today’s climate of radical change in collective awareness and attention on sustainability of the planet, we have the opportunity to slow down and re-assess where we are heading to in our standard educational set up and admit that the future is merely a projection of past fears and experiences, which will only produce the same war-mongering results.

If we are to equip the future generations with power and know-how to navigate their futures peacefully yet pragmatically, they need to build on their emotional resilience, natural brilliance and purpose-driven authenticity, all of which Hyacinth insists that developing emotional and social intelligence competency the key.  With children it is easy for them to recognize their brilliance, but addressing the emotional stresses and strains of the adults is paramount if we can help them build muscles to overcome emotional blocks we allow the next generation to stand on the shoulders of giants and they will be capable of far greater things than we can perceive.

After years as a legal secretary in London and Brussels, Hyacinth re-trained to become a secondary school teacher in Belgium when her first child turned one.  Something was disturbingly wrong with the college experience. As a mother, homemaker, student and trainee teacher, there was an insatiable need for visible vulnerability and personalisation. She wanted to train to become a teacher to stimulate the courageous and galvanise the dreamers, but there wasn’t much room for that in the schedule, which was not much different from 20-30 years ago when she was at school in UK.

Although she suffered burn-out while studying, one thing became apparent and that was her entrepreneurial spirit was not being nurtured in the standard college environment. Hyacinth set out on a mission to prevent parents, educators and students being stuck in lifeless careers yearning to fail fast, often and forward and spontaneously dedicated six years to independent study (and practice – while raising a family, running a home, nurturing her marriage, starting a business and – marginally- keeping her sanity).

Hyacinth finally trained as a Holistic Life Coach and developed a methodology on how to recognise and honour our elemental nature and enhance our inner-leadership potential, promoting self-compassion and improved outlook on relationships, finances, career and health. Over the years Hyacinth has lead workshops/ provided consultation to entrepreneurs, Chief Executives, IT and PR professionals, a national airline, a government conference, local schools and international parent boards.

She has a dream of creating an educational wellness village putting the power of imagination and connection back in the hands of the community, empowering them to dare to dream BIG and striving to reach those dreams together.
