25-38. Sunny Side of the Street

Sara’s View of Life with Sara Troy, on air from September 22ND

We have all known the darkness, a place of fear, uncertainty, cold, and isolation. What truly matters is not that we entered it, but how we choose to emerge. Something always calls us toward the light, urging us to step forward. I believe in the “Sunny Side of the Street,” where those still lost in the shadows can see the light ahead, beckoning them out. And when they cross into that light, they find others waiting with love, support, wisdom, and tools to guide them on their journey forward.

I believe in Free Will. Whatever has caused us to step into the darkness, whether fear, pain, or the weight of circumstance, it is only through Free Will that we can choose to rise and leave it behind. No one can walk that path for us; the choice must come from within. Yet when we decide to step forward, to cross into the Sunny Side of the Street, we discover the light has always been waiting. There, we are not alone. We find the loving support, the wisdom, and the tools we need to continue our journey with strength, courage, and hope.

Part of our darkness is learning to see the light not as a judgment, but as an invitation—to leave the pain behind and step into healing. Yet the darkness itself has a purpose. It gives us space to reflect on how we arrived there, to recognize that it is not always our fault, and to understand that even this is a life lesson. In walking through it, we become more resilient, more insightful, more attuned to our inner voice, and stronger and more courageous than we ever believed possible.

It becomes our story to share, what we have learned, how it inspires others, and a celebration of how truly flawsome we are when we piece our shattered selves back together with self-love.

The danger lies in staying too long in the darkness of despair, blind to the light that beckons and unwilling to take the steps toward it. We cannot wait for someone to rescue us, for those on the Sunny Side of the Street are already waiting with open arms. They cannot walk the path for us, but the moment we choose to step forward, their care, wisdom, and love are there to receive us.

I was in the darkness for over eight years. Apathy was setting in, and I knew that if I didn’t step into the light, my soul would wither. At first, the light felt blinding, and the shadows seemed to chase me. But over time, I grew accustomed to its warmth and began to see the shadows not as threats, but as contours that gave the light its shape.

Now, when I enter the darkness, it is no longer with fear but with peace and reflection. Since I have discovered that I am the light I seek, and in that darkness, I can now see with clarity what I am truly meant to understand.

Step beyond the shadows, for the Sunny Side of the Street shines with love, wisdom, and strength, ready to walk beside you, but alas, it is you that must walk it.

25-37. Healing Beyond Hate

Sara’s View of Life with Sara Troy, on air from September 16th

With the shooting of Charlie Kirk this week, along with other assassinations that have already scarred this year, we must ask ourselves: what path are we truly traveling? Our society has become steeped in hate, where violence is used as an excuse to silence or punish those we disagree with. The film Civil War (on Netflix) starkly illustrates how quickly America could unravel under such escalation, and how hate, even in rhetoric—burns everything in its path.

How does turning on one another ever help us heal the pain or address the weight of injustice?
How does fueling hate, rhetoric, and division create bridges or invite real solutions?

When those in power spread discord and hate, they stir people into a frenzy. And in that frenzy, reason is lost, logic is twisted, and empathy and compassion vanish, replaced by fear and rage. Division has never healed a wound; it only makes the scar deeper.

We must pause and create space to reassess our accountability, our choices, our words, and our interactions. We need to own them, hold ourselves responsible, and from that place, ignite self-love that naturally radiates outward, touching everyone in our world. That self-love, and the love of life itself, becomes a force that works for all, healing wounds, softening divisions, and opening the door to true solutions.

True strength comes not from silencing others, but from listening even when it is hard. We can choose to rise above the noise, to be the voice of calm in a storm of chaos. Every act of love, no matter how small, is a ripple that pushes back against hate.

Take stock of your inner dialogue, where is it truly coming from? Is it rooted in trauma, fear, loss, a sense of unworthiness, or anger? We must heal those wounds, find ways to release that inner pain, and move forward into the light of illumination, wisdom, and self-love.

Because when we tend to our own hearts, we weaken the grip of hate. When we choose compassion over retaliation, we build bridges instead of walls. And when we honor our shared humanity, we become the antidote to the chaos.

The path forward isn’t found in louder arguments or deeper divides. It is found in each of us choosing to rise, to love, and to lead with the quiet strength of understanding. That is how we heal, not just ourselves, but the world around us.

Lack-itude versus Gratitude
When we dwell on what we lack, we feed the pain, the fear, and the sense of being less than. But when we choose gratitude, no matter how small the blessing, we shift the energy. Gratitude nourishes hope, strengthens resilience, and reminds us of the abundance already present in our lives. What we feed will grow; let it be gratitude, not lack.

25-36. Colour Me Alive

Sara’s View of Life with Sara Troy, on air from September 9th

My son-in-law recently colorized old photographs of my mother and father, and in doing so, it felt as if he had brought them back to life. Both were just 27 years old in these images, and seeing them this way gave me a deeper glimpse into who they were at that moment in time.

Before meeting my father, my mother had been married and had a daughter, my half-sister. She met my father after her divorce, when my sister was six years old, and he apparently proposed to her on the spot.

My brother arrived first, and I came along five years later. Yet, our parents I knew were not quite the same as the radiant couple in these photos. I want to remember them like this, happy, in love, carefree, and embracing life together.

Sadly, that happiness was not to last. My father, a squadron leader and fighter pilot during the war, carried the heavy burden of trauma with no counsel or support to help him heal. He never did find that healing, and died at the age of 45 years old. My mother, too, endured a difficult path, from a life of luxury in India to one of poverty in London, and as the seventh child, she faced her own hardships. Her first marriage had been dreadful and frightening, leaving scars she never spoke of. They both survived their pasts in silence, but those unspoken wounds inevitably wove themselves into the fabric of their marriage.

We all have a photograph tucked away somewhere that captures a happy moment, a memory that lights us up from within. These are the images we should carry in our hearts, holding onto that feeling, so it’s never lost. At the same time, we must remember not to let the hardships of life turn into unspoken wounds. If pain is never voiced or faced, it can quietly weave itself into our days, shaping our lives in ways we never intended.

For me, it’s the newly colorized images of my parents at twenty-seven, radiant and in love. I choose to carry that memory in my heart, letting it remind me of the beauty they once shared. Life, of course, brought them struggles, as it does for us all. But I’ve learned that if we speak of our pain, face it, and let it go, it doesn’t have to define us. Unspoken wounds can quietly shape our lives, but when we give them voice, we free ourselves to live fully and keep our hearts open to joy.

Here’s to keeping the beauty alive in our hearts, no matter what the years may bring.

25-35. Into the Fall

Sara’s View of Life with Sara Troy, on air NOW

Fall is on its way, though with 30-degree temperatures, you’d never know it. The season whispers of change, yet in the world around us, we’re also witnessing a different kind of fall, the fall of an empire. America isn’t just stumbling; it’s cascading into some of its darkest days, a sobering reminder that not all falls are gentle.

There’s also the heartbreak of watching Gaza’s fall, the devastation of genocide, the horrific loss of life, and the erasure of a people’s hope. It is a fall humanity should never accept, yet one we must witness with open eyes and an open heart if we are to ever rise together again.

But fall can also mean something beautiful: falling into place. It’s when the pieces finally align, when what once felt scattered finds its natural order. That’s the kind of fall I choose to embrace, one of the grounding, harmony, trusting, and coming together.

Finding our pace in life after chaos can be done by falling into a rhythm. We can fall into faith, letting trust replace fear when the future feels uncertain. We can fall into grace, extending compassion to ourselves and others when the world feels harsh.

And then there’s the sweetest fall of all—falling for someone. This October, I’ll be falling head over heels in love with my third grandson, a new life arriving just as the leaves turn and the air shifts. A reminder that even in uncertain times, there are moments that fill our hearts and make every fall worth the journey.

25-34. Giving & Receiving

Sara’s View of Life with Sara Troy, on air NOW

You never know where your angels will come from. For much of my life, I found it hard to accept help, believing it meant weakness or that there was always an agenda behind it. But over the years—especially in my 13 years of podcasting—I’ve learned to surrender to the gift of receiving, understanding that allowing others to help is not only okay, it gives them the joy of fulfilling their own meaningful purpose.

Angels have shown up in many forms: friends, family, guests, and strangers, offering kindness, support, and unexpected blessings—sometimes financially, sometimes technical, sometimes simply the gift of time. These acts, freely given from the heart, have sustained me, allowing me to continue my work of sharing wisdom, telling stories, and standing for those whose voices need to be heard.

I’ve learned that true giving asks nothing in return, yet what’s given ripples forward in ways we may never see. Kindness, compassion, and support—whether through money, time, or encouragement—are the currency of a thriving humanity. We each have the power to be someone’s angel, and we each have angels to thank. Acknowledge them. Be one yourself. And remember, when you’re aware, you care—and once you care, you can never be unaware again.
