C18-07 DO WOMEN STILL WANT TO BE SOMEONE’S VALENTINE?

Choose Positive Living with Sara Troy and her guest Prestell Askia, on air from February 13th

THERE’S A CHILL WIND BLOWING…

“The #MeToo movement is putting a chill on romance this Valentine’s Day, and a deep freeze on what for years has been a route to marriage: the office love affair, according to relationship experts.

The number of Americans admitting to being in an office romance has fallen, and some feminist activists call that change as well as zero tolerance for unacceptable behaviour in the workplace long overdue. The movement is sparking the kind of direct communication essential for love, they say.

#MeToo has dampened one traditional route to dating: Office romances. The percentage of U.S. workers are saying they were in one fell to a 10-year-low of 36 percent, according to a Nov. 28-Dec. 20 online Harris Poll of 809 private sector employees sponsored by recruitment site CareerBuilder.

That was down from 41 percent a year earlier, a statistically significant drop in a poll with a 3.45 percent margin of error.

“The #MeToo movement is splashing cold water on whatever embers of romance are struggling to survive between men and women,” said Dr. Carole Lieberman, a psychiatrist and author of “Bad Boys: Why We Love Them.”

C17-52 Sexual Sovereignty in the age of Misogyny with Dr. Saida Désilets

Choose Positive Living with Sara Troy and her guest Dr. Saida Désilets, on air from December 25th

Dr. Saida Désilets on How Women Claim Theirs and Men Learn to Honor It Finding the Culture-Altering Collaborative Way Forward in a Highly-Charged Moment in History Harvey Weinstein, Brett Ratner, Louis CK and James Toback did not respect it. And the women who are now coming forward about their sexual abuse at the hands of these men are only now truly claiming it. “It” is their SEXUAL SOVEREIGNTY—the right to control their own sexual and physical fate—not being subject to the demands, the whims, the control or the perversion of others.
“Do you realize that in no country in the world, nor even the United Nations Human Rights Charter, is there any stipulation that women have the rights to their own bodies,” says Dr. Saida Désilet, Ph.D. A thought-leader and speaker on the growing edge of researching ways women can use their minds, bodies, and spirits to create richer lives through their sensual selves, Saida serves as a guide to women who believe in transformation as a lifelong path of learning, discovery and walk to freedom.

But it was a violent rape that nearly cost Saida Désilets her life that put her on this path. Self-described as a “street-savvy, equipped with feisty farm-girl strength and the grace of a dancer,” she was by no means naïve. In fact, this French Canadian native was raised on a First Nation’s reservation in Manitoba where sexual abuse of children, teens and young women was common. Yet, despite seeing that openly, she never expected to be so violently attacked by a man she was actually dating. The shocking violation left her in such excruciating physical and emotional pain and damage that, upon waking up after emergency surgery, she was told she had only two weeks to live.
But live she did! “I chose to defy the surgeon’s diagnosis, and instead, chose to live. Life after the rape, after near-death, takes on a different quality,“ she says.” Either you become a shut-down, just-getting-by version of yourself or you suddenly feel like you’ve been given a new ticket on life. I felt the latter. My journey started in defiance. I defied death. I defied the badge of a victim. And I claimed myself in ways I never knew possible.”
After two decades of work with women on their sexuality and sensuality, a PhD, two books–plus one more on the way, and the development of a proven psycho-sexual method that is now being used in female medicine, she has come to recognize “that this journey, this coming home to ourselves, is an act of rebellion. Rebellion because women must defy their conditioning, their wounds, and the inertia of social mandates.”
Saida points to a quote from Hamash Alidina: ‘In a society that benefits from your self-doubt, liking yourself is a rebellious act.’
“That’s how the term SEXUAL SOVEREIGNTY emerged,“ she says. “It’s the full ownership of ourselves and our body and our sensual/sexual nature. It is knowing that no person, institution, organization or government has the right to choose what we do with our pleasure, sensuality, sexuality and fertility. That is ours alone to choose.”
And now the quest is how to usher in a new path that brings men and women into the right relationship with each other…where SEXUAL SOVEREIGNTY is the cornerstone for both sexes, and is the foundation for building understanding, respect, compassion and strength. A world where physical or psychological oppression is no more. And #METOO isn’t necessary.
Saida speaks to all of this. Her vision is one of healing and growth for all. Most of all she wants women to feel at home in themselves, where they know they belong and that they matter—opening up new levels of freedom, joy, self-confidence and achievement.

C17-40b Devina Kaur, Born Happy Sexy & Brilliant

Choose Positive Living with Sara Troy and her guest Devina Kaur, on air from October 3rd.

Self-confidence is the sexiest thing a woman can wear..

Devina Kaur is a fun-loving, flamboyant straight-talker who is an author, entrepreneur and inspirational speaker. As a full-time student of life, Devina the Sexy Goddess is out to share her relentless optimism with the world and empower others in loving themselves. Born and raised in rural India, Devina fought to reconcile her traditional upbringing with her ambitions. Following the end of her traditional (orthodox) marriage, and free from a life where she had conformed to others’ expectations, Devina embarked on a journey of self-discovery that led her to start the Sexy Brilliant Revolution.
Founded on the premise that everyone deserves love, and that self-love is the first step on a path to happiness and empowerment, the Sexy Brilliant way of life starts with self-knowledge and self-acceptance. Connections made with others when in a state of self-loathing and unhappiness lead to misunderstanding and dissatisfaction. How can one unveil one’s true self to another, before you even like yourself? Why focus on connecting with others, when not connected with oneself? Self-love is not an option, it is a prerequisite!
Daring to step out of her comfort zone, Devina quickly learned that the dating scene was just another superficial construct where potential dates portrayed themselves as they knew others will find attractive, and not as their true selves. When meeting a new person, Devina would always affirm that she was not just “OK,” she was feeling Sexy Brilliant today. What is spoken alone orin public, becomes our self-image.

C17-22b Byszantine Christianity & Homosexuality with Stephen Morris

Choose Positive Living with Sara Troy and her guest Stephen Morris, on air from May 30th

Were men joined in a “brotherhood,” like matrimony, by the Orthodox Church?

“Fearless in dealing with sensitive subjects, its pastoral conclusions are insightful and helpful for discussion of the subject within all Christian churches, not just Orthodox Christianity… Once I started reading, I couldn’t put it down,” writes Wendy Mayer of the Centre for Early Christian Studies (Australian Catholic University) one of the world’s leading authorities on John Chrysostom and co-author of John Chrysostom: The Cult of Saints and The Homilies of John Chrysostom — Provenance. Reshaping the Foundations.

She goes on to say, “Fearlessly and unprejudiciously delves into not just historical approaches to homosexuality, but a much wider range of sexual relations and unions within the Orthodox Christian past… engages the topic with objectivity, courage and grace; a timely book in light of the current debate about marriage equality.

“I found the book refreshing and courageous. It puts the status of homosexuality within the Byzantine tradition carefully in context. The suggestion that John Chrysostom’s stance was the result of personal experience of sexual abuse is novel and insightful. A sound piece of historical writing.”
