I faced similar challenges as a paralegal before it came full circle in 1992 when I failed to file a personal injury legal complaint within a two-year statute of limitations. After allowing this mistake to haunt me for years, I eventually earned a Master of Public Administration and Doctor of Management, presented my thesis, and defended my dissertation, which focused on time management’s impact on organizational success and leadership. Because of a mistake I made early in my career, time management was critical to me. Shanan Terale completed her bachelor’s degree in Economics and Latino Studies at Columbia University. She spent several years at FactSet Research Systems and was promoted multiple times and she managed a team and 3 of the top 10 sell-side accounts. Shanan graduated from Northwestern University with a dual degree: an MBA from Kellogg School of Management and J.D. from Pritzker School of Law. While there she worked at a family office that specializes in healthcare, JVC Investment Partners. Shanan has practiced law at Cahill, Gordon & Reindel LLP, Ropes & Gray LLP and Kirkland & Ellis LLP specializing in Restructuring, Special Situations and General Corporate transactions, which includes debt finance, capital markets and M&A practice. Shanan sits on the board of directors for NAMI Metro Suburban, which is based in western Chicago and the nearby suburbs. NAMI is a trailblazer in the mental health advocacy and recovery space. Shanan chairs the Governance committee and serves as a member on its finance committee.  Along the way, she started helping ambitious professionals who are the first high-earners in their families create their dream lives while working on her own. Jamie Martin’s professional journey commenced at Starbucks, where foundational skills in customer service and operational excellence were cultivated from the ground up as a Barista. This early experience ignited Jamie’s passion for retail operations and laid the groundwork for a career marked by leadership and community advocacy.

Transitioning from Starbucks, Jamie advanced to roles at Walmart, initially serving as an Acting Store Manager and Assistant Store Manager. Here, Jamie gained extensive experience in managing large-scale operations, overseeing teams, and optimizing business processes. This tenure at Walmart provided invaluable insights into multi-unit retail management and strategic leadership.

Jamie’s career then took a pivotal turn at the BC Liquor Distribution Branch (LDB), where Jamie excelled as a Senior Store Manager and Regional Manager. Managing operations across 20 locations within a unionized environment, Jamie not only oversaw multimillion-dollar budgets and led teams of up to 400 staff but also played a crucial role during the legalization of cannabis in British Columbia. Jamie navigated complex regulatory landscapes, developed compliance strategies aligned with the Cannabis Act, and fostered partnerships with government entities.
