NA25-15. Ian Fee,s Wild Ride to Sobriety

Nature of Addictions with Sara Troy and her guest Ian Fee, on air from April 16th

My wild ride to sobriety, from Drunken oblivion to profound clarity.

“I was the life of the party when I was drunk, and I’m still the life of the party today.” —Ian Fee

Buying into the myth of the “work hard, play harder” mentality, Ian Fee immersed himself in a culture that celebrated excessive drinking. But as the days turned into years, alcohol became more than just a means of entertainment and high finance; it became a destructive force that eroded his personal relationships, wreaked havoc on his body, and clouded his judgment.

In Wild Ride to Sobriety, Fee tells a remarkable tale of a man who found the courage and determination to face the skeletons in his closet and achieve healing and personal growth. From therapy and self-reflection to embracing vulnerability and restoration, he made a conscious choice to benefit from the gift of sobriety without sacrificing the enjoyment of life.

I wrote a book to make a positive impact on others to be a better husband, mother, son, daughter, business owner, and friend. My experience of thinking booze was my superpower building my business, while neglecting my family coupled with 2 failed marriages. I found sobriety 7 years ago, and boy was it a game changer for life, Business, Relationships and most importantly, ME. I have lost 80lbs, found health and wellness as my new addiction, and aim to be a better person every day.  I live every day to make a positive impact on people and bring epic positive Energy to the people around me.  My new superpower is to share my story and make an impact on others on the benefits of sobriety, health, mindset, stack baby wins, nothing good came out of drinking NOTHING. The power of looking inward and forgiving your younger self, believing in your current self and creating your future self.

I’m a fellow Canadian. I was born in New Westminster, then moved to Bellingham till I was 12.

NA24-32. Chandler Picot’s Addiction Recovery

Nature of Addictions with Sara Troy and her guest Chandler Picot, on air from August 6th

My name is Chandler Picot, and I am a 32-year-old resident of the wonderful state of North Carolina. Growing up in the small town of Greenville, I later became a Certified Peer Support Specialist and a Certified Drug and Alcohol Abuse Counselor after spending over fourteen years in active addiction. My recovery journey, fueled by the grace of Jesus Christ, involved a robust 12-step program, intensive therapy, rehab, and a halfway house, which collectively gave me a fighting chance at a “normal” life.

Over a few years ago, I moved to Siler City with the goal of centralizing my e-commerce business. After months of commuting through Siler City, I recognized the benefits of living in a centrally located county within North Carolina. The potential for growth and the warmth of its residents made me fall in love with the city. I actively participate in online support groups and forums, assisting people with various behavioral health issues.

One of my long-time passions is helping others in any way possible. You might often find me and my closest friends volunteering at local food pantries, which we do weekly. I take great joy in seeing my fellow man receive the help they desperately need. The non-profits and charities I work with provide food, clothing, and housing to Siler City residents on an ongoing basis. As a Qualified Professional in the Substance Abuse field, I witness daily how severe neglect has led to the decay of many North Carolinians, especially in Siler City. I frequently advocate on both citywide and state levels for those who have been neglected and ignored for decades.

My entrepreneurial spirit is evident in my successful e-commerce business and various entrepreneurial ventures, including my role as the President of Chatham Weekly. I am also a fervent advocate in the substance abuse and mental health fields, striving to support those in need. My journey of sobriety, entrepreneurship, and advocacy began at Pitt Community College, where I graduated with an Associate in Arts in 2018.

Driven by a desire to create impactful change, I transitioned into politics, seeking to influence effective policy-making to address pressing issues facing North Carolinians. Before May 25, 2018, I battled active addiction, but today I proudly stand as a beacon of recovery, having maintained sobriety for over five years. I remain deeply connected to my recovery community, offering support and hope to those on their own paths to wellness.

In the depths of my darkest days, I found solace in the unwavering love and guidance of Jesus Christ. His divine intervention ignited a transformative journey that rescued me from addiction and instilled a profound sense of purpose. Through my recovery and community advocacy work, I strive to demonstrate my love for Jesus Christ by embodying His teachings and spreading His message of hope and redemption.

I put my faith into action by volunteering at a drive-thru food pantry, where I provide essential food supplies and share words of encouragement and faith with those in need. Advocacy has also become a way of life for me, as I serve at the North Carolina Legislative Building, raising my voice to support accessible treatment options, improved education about addictions, and the availability of community resources.

As a Peer Support Specialist and a Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor, I am privileged to demonstrate Christ’s love in my daily work. By providing guidance, empathy, and understanding to individuals battling addiction, I strive to be a source of hope and inspiration. My faith in God guides me in taking tough stands on issues affecting people, giving me the courage to confront adversity and bring about positive change.

NA24-25. Dr. Samantha Harte on Reimagined 12 Steps

Nature of Addictions with Sara Troy and her guest Dr Samantha Harte, on air from June 18th

Through her medical practice, Samantha came to realize that, whether we’re addicted or not, we all suffer from some degree of soul sickness. We navigate love and loss throughout our lives with little or no guidance, often fumbling our way through with self-sabotaging behaviors. Despite her initial resistance to the well-known Twelve Steps of Alcoholics Anonymous, Samantha eventually reimagined them so that they worked in her own life. In the process, she discovered that the spiritual concepts in each step have universal application and can help people learn new ways of navigating adversity—not just addiction. In this book, she shows you how you, too, can change your life with the power of these steps.

NA24-03. Allan Hendrickson, Facing Addictions

Nature of Addiction with Sara Troy and her guest Allen Hendrickson, on air from January?16th

The “WHY” I wish to share is that I have discovered almost everyone dealing with what the Culture calls an addiction has the wrong “WHY” as to how come they find themselves unable to stop doing what they’re doing even though they are clear that what they are doing is destroying their relationships and life. The most advanced solution is to declare one powerless, which usually makes it worse, and then get into a public setting for support or help, i.e. AA or NA.  There is nothing bad or wrong about those programs, and many people have their conditions improved by stopping the destructive behavior, they just don’t get to the Source of the problem, so they’re still trapped but have enough restraint to not engage in the destructive behavior but they’re not free and not by a long shot.

I have found that many people who want help are not willing to make their problem a public conversation for fear of shame or fear of losing their jobs, etc…   Also, the Cultural viewpoint (based completely on misunderstanding) of brokenness or flawed Ness in the individual who cannot stop also acts as a motivator to keep the problem hidden, which again worsens the problem. This program guides anyone dealing with drinking, smoking, snorting, injecting, sexing, gambling, or any other method the individual has conjured up to find some relief by showing them the “RIGHT WHY.”

Mr, Hendrickson is a man who since childhood has not only had questions about the human condition but, being unsatisfied with only asking questions irrepressibly sought answers to them.  His search for a deeper understanding of the human mind, spirit and soul, and of our collective human  consciousness, has led him to many corners of the world, including India and Tibet, where he hiked the foothills of the Himalayas with exiled Tibetan monks.

He has sought after and communicated with the Spiritual leaders of our time.  He understood however, that answers would come not only from the world’s  spiritual leaders but profoundly and richly from the layman.  Accordingly, he has taught as a volunteer at a maximum security prison, and has sat with and trained hospice volunteers to sit with people as they are making their transition from physical form.  Believing that the answers to the human predicament  lie in dwelling among humanity- among the eyes of the dying, in being inches from the heart wrenching anger and body language of the inmate-rather than retreating from life into a mountainous seclusion, he has dived into the mouth of the volcano to pull from its depths an understanding as to how man could rise above anything he had created.

He earned his law degree and practiced as a litigation attorney and also spent several more years in the business world making multi-million dollar real estate deals.  All of this experience has led him to a razor-sharp insight into the human journey, into humanity’s predicament and its incredible potential.  A devotion to helping people understand life and living and themselves- to make life fun-are the are the succulent wine into which all that experience has fermented.  The ability to articulate wisdom through language manifests in people in varying degrees of skill.  In Mr. Hendrickson, it has appeared in the fullest measure. His cutting edge breakthrough programs on addiction and the law of attraction are helping people get free and create their own happiness.  If you get the opportunity to see him in person, make it happen, you will be happy you did.
