BB 20-32 Deborah Laurel and PEER LEARNING for Entrepreneurs

Building your business with Sara Troy and her guest Deborah Laurel, on air from August 4th

A Benefit for Small Business Owners- Peer Learning Groups.
It’s lonely at the top. I know because I have a small business. Small business owners face a steep learning curve. For many, it may be the very first time they have run a business or supervised employees. If they have the time, resources and the access, they can take advantage of classes. But the need for learning doesn’t stop at the classroom door. On a daily basis, small
business owners face complex new challenges that they need to address- and they may be at a loss to know what to do.

It is also very isolating at the top. There may be a kitchen cabinet of close associates who can recommend policies and procedures, but the owner has to ultimately make the decisions.
Wouldn’t it be nice if there was a group of other non-competitive small business owners with whom to discuss issues, sound out options, and search out solutions? A support group where the members can speak openly and learn together?
It would have to be a group that required a brief time commitment and met no more than every other month. It would be helpful if that group followed a structured process with a focus on a timely issue. In other words, if it offered a just-in-time microlearning option to support small business owners as they navigate unknown waters.
The Peer Learning Institute has developed a Peer Learning Group program that is entirely self-directed. No facilitator is required. It targets a specific management topic.

There are two 90- minute sessions a month apart. In the intervening month, the members support each other as they put what they learned into practice. They then debrief in the next session, sharing their experience. If they like, they can continue with another topic. Bridge the isolation, make it less lonely to be a small business owner. Meet with peers in your
industry, share and learn from each other, create a supportive community, and become better at managing your business.

BB20-31 Strive for Healthy, Wealthy & Wise ®with Scotty

Building your business with Sara Troy and her guest Scott Schindler, on air from July 28th

Scott Schindler is a business and sports leader proudly from Sawtell, New South Wales, Australia. As the CEO of ReNet, he was recognized as a leading
Aussie business identity, and keen surfer who has won multiple Surfing Titles. An overview of Scott’s life shows an enviable ability to achieve success in anything he pursues. Combining all the techniques in surfing and business shows him how to navigate any journey in his life.

https://soundcloud.com/plv-radio/bb20-31-strive-for-healthy-wealthy-wise-with-scotty

At its core, Scott’s career is a story of creativity, hard work, and a love of Australian life. As CEO of ReNet, Scott has presided over the growth of a startup business that began in 2000 with just 1 single property listing advertised. On Scotts’ retirement in 2017 ReNet managed 900,000+ properties and $1.125 Trillion Dollars ($1,125,771,059,045) in real estate across Australia and New Zealand by 5,000+ real estate offices and some 11,000+ real estate salespeople.

In complement to his role as CEO, Scott is also a highly sought-after public speaker, trainer, and thought leader within Australia, and around the
world. A business mentor and sales trainer that can back up advice with proven results in his own life, Scott credit his ‘quintessentially Australian’ identity as a born optimist, and clear-cut straight talker, as key to his success in this arena.

Before this present chapter of his life, Scott acquired his business and sales trade during 10 years in the insurance industry in the 90’s. Other organisations Scott is actively involved in are the Sawtell
Boardriders, Sawtell Business Chamber, Surfing NSW, and Fire + Rescue New South Wales. The roles vary but Scott’s devotion to community is a constant, and so too an unending love of business and surfing that has carved out many, many adventures.

Alongside having represented and won for Australia at the World Surfing Titles, Scott also holds multiple surfing championships at all levels of amateur surfing. With an enduring belief that success in
business and sport require dedication to the same qualities, Scott is also very proud of his work as a coach and trainer of WQS surfers, and Aussie surfers in junior development.

When away from his work or sporting commitments, Scott spends time with his family, friends, and is a proud supporter and sponsor of local sporting groups such as Sawtell Surf Life Saving, and Sawtell Scorpions FC.

20-31 It’s Been 40 Years in Canada.

Sara’s View of Life with Sara Troy, on air form July 28 th

I am celebrating my 40th year living in Canada, and I am very grateful to call it home. I am a born a Brit who moved to South Africa at the age of 14 y.old. It is a beautiful country where I learned a great deal about my self and embraced my free spirit; but, although I loved it, I could not stand the segregation apartheid and the male misogyny.

I travelled a lot while living there, I went back to the UK a lot, lived in London, travelled Europe, and then lived in the USA for a bit before going back to SA and getting engaged. That did not last long and I moved to a place called Hillbrow, very cosmopolitan, great food, but a lot of violence. After a while, I could not take it all anymore and came to Canada before going back to the USA.

https://soundcloud.com/plv-radio/20-31-its-40-years-in-canada

I was here 5 months and met my now ex-husband, that was it for the US until 2006 when I tried to go there to further develop a new electric motor, but it was not meant to be. Finding my self back in Canada and looking for partners around 2007/8 was not a fun thing, as it when everything crashed, so did we, my then-current partner/boyfriend and I.

We moved around the mainland living out of my car until we found some new partners, who then end stole the motor and left us high and dry.

REDIRECT TIME, feeling lost and depressed I was asked to join a podcast network, and now 8 years later and 7 years my own network, I am where I am meant to be doing what I love.

Vancouver was not feeding my soul anymore, and I needed a change, so I went to Toronto for a few months to be near my oldest daughter, but left when temps reach -36 and came to Victoria Island in BC and I love it.

So now 40 years I am so at home here, I have lived in 4 countries and raised 3 children in BC and know I am in the right place. Ones soil is important, I have felt at home in many places, but here I feel grounded and for me a free spirit, that is a good thing.

I highly recommended coming to BC Canada when the borders open up, it is a most stunningly beautiful place to be.

Check out this article on Vancouver one on Victoria coming soon.
