Comedic illustrator and popular influencer Sharon Brecher, author of Miserable Mom: The Do’s and Don’ts of Sending Your Kid to College

Welcome to that special time of every parent’s life – when they’ve done all they can to prepare their kids for the next step, and the time has come… their kid is leaving home and going to college! Miserable Mom celebrates the ups and downs of one of life’s most emotional parenting moments, conveniently coinciding with mid-life. Mom-blogger, illustrator, and popular influencer Sharon Brecher shares her first-hand experience with the daily angst and indignities of motherhood in her humorous comic strips that portray the do’s and don’ts of sending your kid to college. Through illustrations and transparent slice-of-life narrative, Miserable Mom: The Do’s and Don’ts of Sending Your Kid to College provides an authentic connection with others who are also navigating this emotional time. Delivering an unapologetic perspective of motherhood, Sharon shines a light on the stream of consciousness we all internalize and helps us laugh at ourselves. By normalizing common parenting and mid-life insecurities with a dose of humor, Miserable Mom will help you feel supported while enduring this incredibly special time of parenting college students.:

  • High Anxiety: The Do’s and Don’ts of Pre-College Prep
  • Holy Sh*t Your Kid is Leaving the Nest! The Do’s and Don’ts of Moving Out…and Moving In

“Sharon has taken her first-hand experience with the daily angst and indignities of motherhood and – instead of eating cupcakes alone in her car – has channeled it into this well-observed and funny book! Her illustrations that juxtapose her comic characters against a real-life background are an apt metaphor for her clever take on what it means to love and let go with a sense of humor… and to get up the next day and do it all over again.” – Eileen Heisler, Executive Producer/Co-Creator of hit TV series, The Middle

“She’s not really miserable. She’s creating her way through the ups and downs of life’s most perplexing assignment – raising humans. Sharon’s book is a sassy, sparkling help list for a mom’s most dreaded job, sending her kid to college. You will laugh, you will wince, you will buy two books so you can cut one up to send pages to your friends.” – Becky Blades, Author of Do Your Laundry or You’ll Die Alone: Advice Your Mom Would Give if She Thought You Were Listening

Miserable Mom: The Do’s and Don’ts of Sending Your Kid to College is fun, lighthearted and brimming with good advice – The perfect gift for any parent navigating this emotional, exciting journey.” – Linda Wolff, Freelance Writer/Syndicated Blogger, CarpoolGoddess.com

Sharon L. Brecher is a mom-blogger, writer, illustrator, wife, and Miserable Mom. Her first book, Miserable Mom: The Do’s and Don’ts of Sending Your Kid to College, calls out the absurdities of this stage of motherhood with a wry sense of humor and a self-deprecating wink to her own place in the emotional merry-go-round. Sharon is a born and bred New Yorker, living in Southern California. She has raised two young adults (one in college and one recently out) and has an MA in Education. Sharon was the Educational Director of Futurekids and spent several years working as a consultant for companies like Disney Interactive and Disney Online, where she created educational content for kids and guides for parents. Upon an emotional return from dropping her oldest off at college for the first time, Sharon needed to process some unfamiliar and vulnerable feelings. With one kid out and one to go, mid-life was upon her. This new phase would require the honesty and humor she always internalized, to process life’s challenges. But this time Sharon needed to share with other moms out loud. So, she sat down at her computer and Miserable Moms was born.

C21-50 Beverly Kievman Copen is Creating Positivity.

Choose Positive Living with Sara Troy and her guest Beverly Kievman Copen, on air from December 14th

~Her Mission to Inspire you to want to Move Forward with your Life~

Does it feel impossible to fit it all in? Challenging times, like the recent pandemic, can add stress and grief to an already hectic life, raising anxiety levels. Residing in Rome, GA, Beverly Kievman Copen, is the acclaimed author of ‘It’s Your Life, Isn’t It?’. For decades, she has been inspiring people through her work as a glass ceiling shattering entrepreneur, an internationally in-demand motivational speaker, renowned photographer, and author. Her newest book offers life tools to deal with changes and difficult times.

“Making a difference begins with ‘I have an idea,'” believes Beverly, who loves helping people find solutions, clarify their values, set goals, and develop plans to make things happen even in challenging and tough times.

IT’S YOUR LIFE, ISN’T IT? tells a most remarkable story. Copen lived in Japan for three years. A year later, after she conducted a seminar in Tokyo, Japan, a young Japanese woman came up to her and said, “I like the way you think. Would you be interested in writing a book for the Japanese market with our publisher?” Copen said YES. It took more than a year to work with Diamond Publishers to think through the theme and content. She wrote it in English, and it was published in Japan in 2000, in Japanese, with the title, “IT’S YOUR LIFE, ISN’T IT.”  During the recent long months in the global pandemic, Copen re-discovered the manuscript on her computer and committed to revising it to become a “global” book. Her aim was that it could reach and help women and men in many countries.

The book paints a picture of how to look at your past, analyze your present, and reimagine your future. Whatever your age, it provides a way to assess your desires, strengths, and weaknesses and put them into a framework that will help you construct a more fulfilling lifestyle throughout your life. The theme is based on how to manage change – especially when it is outside of your control. Copen openly discusses her successes and her mistakes and the lessons learned from those achievements and the errors. Copen states, “we need to understand and deal with the New Normal for our lives.”

“I love this book! It inspired me to take a look at my own life, and it gave me the tools, energy, and new ideas I need to live my Life with more purpose, passion, and joy. The author shares her spectacular photographs and life stories that are uplifting and filled with wisdom and beauty.”
Linda Carson- WWSB-TV, ABC

C21-18 Understand Your True Longing with Dr. Dravon James

Choose Positive Living with Sara Troy and her guest Dr Dravon James, on air from May 4tth

Shorten the Journey from Here to Your Goals Understand Your True Longing

We all want something out of life. Some people want a big house and a yard. Some want money. Some want fame. Some want beautiful clothes or flashy cars. Others want a log cabin in the woods. No matter what the goal, there is a true, underlying longing that drives our desire for it. Ironically, however, that desire can never be satisfied by the goal itself.

By looking within, we may understand that the reason we want a flashy car is that we feel inadequate in some way. Having the car won’t change that. Introspection and self-love can, though, and once we’ve satisfied that ache with inner work, the car just becomes a trinket, and life feels good with or without it. Likewise, we may want a big house because we crave a sense of security, but the house itself will never give us that. Security comes from within, too.

It’s okay to want things- we should all be able to enjoy the perks of life, but they are only the icing on the cake, not the cake itself. If we are having difficulty reaching our goals, we can shorten the quest by discovering what it is we really desire.
