VS18-08 Songs and Stories for Veterans with Dan Perkins.

Our Global Veterans Stories with Sara Troy and her guest Dan Perkins, on air from February 20th

How is it possible that this author writes children’s books and has a foundation for Soldiers. Also is the author of a 4 book series on Radical Islamic terrorism against the United States. The latest book called Ted Baker in Terrorist Gold just started marketing today on Facebook and has not finished the first full day and has over 72,000 Ad views and over 1,000 books sold?

Dan Perkins is most certainly one of those people who goes into action when he sees a need. For his show on Dementia with his number one best selling book Why Can’t Grammy Remember Me? he addresses the need for understanding what to say to our children about what Dementia is.

While being an author is first and foremost, he still continues his 43-year career in money management with a small number of clients. In addition, as a veteran himself, he has a passion for helping veterans return to a normal life. Seeing the struggles of PTSD, sleep deprivation, and suicide that face veterans, he and wife Gerri, have set up a non-profit foundation, Songs and Stories for Soldiers. This amazing foundation distributes MP3 packages free to veterans and injured active duty men and women in hospitals who are trying to return to normal life. The web site songsandstoriesforsoldiers.us allows veterans to download from over 3 million songs, over 100,000 audio books, 30,000 old time radio shows and 4 additional 8-hour sleep audios, all for free.

Songs and Stories for Soldiers is a 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation dedicated to providing free, customizable electronic entertainment for members of the American Military, both active and retired. We will be providing MP3 players, with headsets and USB connection cable or the most recent technology, free to American Military. We will start with active duty wounded, and as their needs are met we will branch out to Veterans and VA hospitals across the United States.

Helping those with P.T.S.D.

PTSD is a disorder that develops in some people who have experienced a shocking, scary, or dangerous event.

It is natural to feel afraid during and after a traumatic situation. Fear triggers many split-second changes in the body to help defend against danger or to avoid it. This “fight-or-flight” response is a typical reaction meant to protect a person from harm. Nearly everyone will experience a range of reactions after trauma, yet most people recover from initial symptoms naturally. Those who continue to experience problems may be diagnosed with PTSD. People who have PTSD may feel stressed or frightened even when they are not in danger.

Helping Veterans sleep.

When you have lived in trauma and are in pain, sleep avoids you, Dan’s organization has wonderful music programs that help Veterans sleep.

Author and master storyteller Dan Perkins presents the first book in his trilogy about terrorism against the United States. The first in the series, The Brotherhood of the Red Nile, A Terrorist Perspective, has propelled him to national acclaim with interviews on radio, television and in print. With the second instalment, The Brotherhood of the Red Nile, America Rebuilds, we get a closer look into the mind of an ingenious writer. Picking up where book one ends, book two delivers more intrigue and mystery while striking terror in the hearts of readers as we ask the question: How in the world can we stop this from happening?

C18-06 WHY CAN’T GRAMMY REMEMBER ME? BY DAN PERKINS

Choose Positive Living with Sara Troy and her guest Dan Perkins, on air from February 6th.

“This is a breakthrough book written on an important subject to children, parents, and grandparents. The subject is Dementia, or what is commonly referred to as memory loss. To the best of my knowledge, no other book on this subject has been written specifically for children ages 9 to 12. However, Hudson’s and Charlotte’s endearing adventure is for all readers; children, parents and grandparents. Your children will relate to the adventures of these two young girls, and as they learn about memory loss, so too will you and your children.

As people live longer, the population winding up with Dementia is rapidly growing. Parents find themselves ill-equipped to talk to their children about this subject. They themselves know little, and without basic mental health knowledge, parents are unable to discuss this issue with their children.

If you have a parent that is fine today, they could start the long, slow, goodbye tomorrow. I believe this book is a must-read for all ages, and parents, in particular, should read it and discuss it with their children. Because this is such an important issue, I am going to donate 10% of my royalties to the Alzheimer Foundation….”
