LM25-22.“He’s Alive” with Keith Mitchell

“for the LOVE of Music” with Sara Trow and her guest Keith Mitchell, on air from June 3rd

Born in Indianapolis, Keith Mitchell’s musical roots were planted early, singing in church at age seven with his siblings in The Stars of Zion. By twelve, he was leading songs and shaping harmonies, setting the stage for a life steeped in music. Though he majored in business at Indiana University, music pulled him stronger. Through the acclaimed IU Soul Review, he refined his R&B sound, which led to the formation of After 7 with his brother Melvin and Kevon Edmonds. Together, they soared to gold and platinum success with era-defining hits. The trio was initially produced by mega hit-makers Babyface (the Edmonds’ younger brother) L.A. Reid, and Daryl Simmons in the group’s self-titled 1989 debut album which spawned the Billboard #1 R&B (and Hot 100 Top Ten) hits “Ready or Not” and “Can’t Stop.” They released two more albums (including the platinum-selling Takin’ My Time) over the next decade before their initial split.

Yet even amid commercial fame, Keith’s spiritual foundation stayed strong. As a member of World Changers International under Pastor Creflo Dollar, he experienced a deep renewal of faith that redirected his path. This spiritual reawakening inspired a new sound, one that blends his soulful R&B roots with powerful gospel truth.

Now, as a solo artist, Keith is channeling a lifetime of musical mastery into a fresh chapter. With the guidance of faith and the support of like-minded young producers, he’s crafting a sound that is both contemporary and timeless, a testimony of transformation, purpose, and praise. His music is more than melody; it’s ministry with rhythm and soul.

After rejoining After 7 for their 2015 comeback and contributing to their 2021 album Unfinished Business, Keith Mitchell officially stepped away in early 2024. He now begins a new chapter as a solo gospel artist with “He’s Alive,” the powerful lead single from his upcoming debut album Food for Your Life. Rich in testimony and praise, the song marks a bold return to his spiritual roots.

Keith’s journey began in the church, singing with his siblings in The Stars of Zion. Though he strayed from his faith in his teens, he rediscovered it at 40 through the teachings of Pastor Creflo Dollar. That reconnection sparked a deeper purpose, one that now fuels his music with messages of transformation, grace, and spiritual awakening.

Songs like “The Kingdom,” “Rescue Me,” and “Virtuous Woman” reflect his personal evolution and divine inspiration. “He’s Alive” is more than a debut—it’s Keith’s heartfelt testimony and invitation for others to experience the living presence of Christ. As he puts it, “There’s no greater honor than using music to minister to the heart.”

Trust in Faith

Having been a person of ill health, depression, and loss, I know from my own experience that staying in spirituality is the only thing that will get you through. When despair knocks at your door, and you feel all is lost, the belief that you will make it through, even though you do not know how keeps you moving forward inch by inch.

Embracing the journey of life with its myriad of challenges requires a perspective rooted in faith and acceptance. It’s natural to find oneself questioning the fairness of our struggles, pondering, “Why me?” Yet, such questions often lead us down a path of isolation and despair, blinding us to the shared nature of human suffering. Each of us carries our own burden of pain, unique in its intensity and impact, yet universal in its existence. It’s crucial, therefore, to resist the urge to compare our hardships, to measure our pain against that of others, as if it were a contest in which the most afflicted is somehow granted a morose victory.

Instead, we are called to lean into our faith, whatever form that may take, allowing it to guide us through the tumultuous waters of adversity. Faith serves not only as a beacon of hope but as a reminder that our journey, with all its trials and tribulations, holds purpose. This perspective encourages us to open our hearts to the lessons embedded within our struggles, to embrace the growth that comes from enduring and overcoming.

We are here for a reason, a purpose that transcends our immediate understanding and discomfort. It is through faith and an open heart that we begin to unravel the tapestry of our lives, each thread interwoven with moments of joy and sorrow, pain and healing. Our journey is not a solitary trek but a shared voyage, enriched by the connections we forge and the support we offer one another.

In the grand scheme, it’s not the magnitude of our suffering that defines us, but our response to it. By choosing faith and openness, we step into the flow of life, ready to face whatever comes our way with grace and resilience. We are travelers on a path laid out with purpose, each step an opportunity to learn, to grow, and to contribute to the world around us. It is in this journey that we find our true calling, our reason for being.

When you can overcome the deep, dark depths of despair and start to see the light, you have to keep that light burning bright, as it will guide you on, where you will find that peace that reason that trust in life again. Everything that is given to us is for a reason. Still, sometimes, that reason is to make us stronger, believe deeper, trust more, and live in our divine spirituality in that pure belief, for there is the truth, the purpose, and the purity of the clarity of life.

Gina Kunadian is a beacon of hope and inspiration for countless women. With over 5 years of personal sobriety, she has transformed from a person grappling with addiction to a certified massage therapist, podcast host, and creator of the transformative ‘Shine Process’. Through her platforms, Gina empowers individuals to step out of the shadows of dependency and embrace a life of authenticity and purpose. Her personal journey serves as a testament to the resilience of the human spirit and the transformative power of self-love and determination.

Background Story: Hello there! I’m Gina Kunadian, a woman of faith, a devoted wife, a mother of three, and an entrepreneur who has fought her battles and emerged stronger. Once gripped by the clutches of alcohol addiction, today I stand tall as a beacon of hope, guiding others on their journey towards sobriety.

There was a time in my life when darkness was my constant companion, and every day was a struggle. I was lost, disconnected, and trapped in a cycle of dependence that I couldn’t seem to break free from. But, through this darkness, I found strength I didn’t know I possessed. My faith, determination, and an insatiable desire for a better life guided me towards the path of recovery.

Breaking up with alcohol was challenging, yet liberating. It didn’t happen overnight, and there were moments of self-doubt and relapses. But each stumble made me stronger, each fall more determined to rise. My transformation wasn’t just about becoming alcohol-free; it was about rediscovering myself, about reclaiming my mind, body, and spirit from the shadows of addiction.

Today, I channel this experience, wisdom, and empathy into my role as a sobriety coach. I provide guidance, support, and tools for women who are committed to breaking free from alcohol, without the traditional 12-step program. I’m there with them every step of the way, helping them unlock their potential, rebuild their confidence, and create a life they love, alcohol-free.

But my ambition extends beyond my coaching career. I am passionate about learning, evolving, and expanding my horizons. Whether it’s exploring new ways to enhance my coaching techniques, seeking spiritual growth, or nurturing my family, I am constantly driven by the desire to become the best version of myself.

My journey from darkness to light has taught me invaluable lessons about resilience, self-love, and the power of change. Now, I am on a mission to empower others to break free from their chains, to shine brightly, and to embrace the limitless potential that lies within each one of us. I believe in the transformative power of gratitude, positivity, and self-belief, and I am committed to sharing this belief with the world.

Being an entrepreneur is more than running a business to me, it’s a way of life. It’s about creating impact, driving change, and leaving a legacy of hope, resilience, and transformation. And as I continue this journey, I am excited about the lives I will touch, the change I will inspire, and the future we will create, together.

IG23-30. Patricia Brendel’s Faith after Childs Death

Ignite Your Heart and Soul with Sara Troy and her guest Patricia Brendel, on air from July 24th

Tricia talks about finding faith and life purpose amidst loss and tragedy. When her young daughter Elly died from Pearson syndrome, an extremely rare and incurable disease (just a handful of people in the world develop this), Tricia found faith and a commitment to helping others by becoming a Registered Nurse. It is her hope that this touching and poignant book, published more than two decades after Elly’s death, will bring us to a deeper understanding of God’s love. Tricia’s story shows us that when we are faced with uncertainty, the message is quite clear: We are never alone.

  • How one can discover a deeper faith, especially amidst tragedy and loss
  • After her daughter’s death, Tricia hit rock bottom. “I went through 18 months of my life existing and trying to be a mother and wife. I was numb beyond all measure. I felt so alone, yet I sensed that I wasn’t. In my experience of supernatural happenings and research, I believe that when faced with death, there is a reassurance of knowing that your loved one is never alone and neither are you.”
  • Why she encourages others to find light in darkness and to embrace love
  • What she and her husband were thinking when they received their daughter’s diagnosis and how the doctor basically said to go home and prepare a funeral. He also told them that 96% of married couples get divorced due to the loss of a child
  • Why she entered the field of nursing in response to her daughter’s passing and how finding purpose in life can help us carry on
  • What it was like to care for an infant daughter that she knew was dying
  • The life lessons her daughter taught her
  • Finding a cure for Pearson’s syndrome and other rare illnesses

Tricia says, “The inspiration for this book comes from my daughter’s bravery and the rarity of this syndrome. It was my husband who encouraged me to keep writing and most importantly, it was the Holy Spirit who led me on this journey.  After my daughter’s death, I wrote an article on this syndrome but it was so in depth that how could I expect people without a medical background to understand this disease process. My goodness, we couldn’t even wrap our heads around it. So. years went by before I could actually sit down to write. Why? Because I had to complete my own understanding and my journey of God’s love in order to share it with you.”

Elly died from Pearson syndrome,

Patricia Brendel, RN, is the author of a touching and inspirational book, Heart Beat of Love. The author’s inspiration for her career was a painful, yet beautiful walk with her daughter Elly, who battled a rare and deadly disease called Pearson’s syndrome.

She has worked in multiple fields of nursing, which include hospital emergency, psychiatric care, school nursing, and health/wellness.

She also was a director of a program that bridged the physical and mental health arenas. Brendel’s work was recognized with an award, the Rural Health Program of the Year for the Total Health Program.  Brendel earned an Associate Degree in Nursing Science from the University of Pittsburgh in 2005. She is also certified in CPR/First Aid/ AED.
In addition to Elly, Brendel has two daughters and four grandchildren. Born and raised in Wilcox, PA, she has lived in DuBois, PA and Ridgway, PA. She is back in her hometown, where she lives with her husband.
