Nature of Addictions with Sara Troy and her guest Jason Umidi, on air from January 24th
Sobriety has a wonderful way of bringing all things into the light, if you’re willing. Detox finally opened the door to sustained sobriety for actor Jason Umidi on January 10, 2012. Gratitude for a life that’s been redeemed and restored permeates his entire being. His sobriety requires him to live in the moment and his faith asks him to lead a life of service, loving as he has been loved.
After being clean and sober for a couple of years, Jason was looking to share his personal journey on Facebook in the hopes that someone might be encouraged by his story. This developed into a series of popular, short blog posts about addiction, recovery, and hope, known as “Today’s One Minute Reads.” Jesus & Seltzer is Jason’s curated collection of his One Minute Reads.
In Jesus and Seltzer, Jason starts each inspiration page with a quote by a person, actor or character, from which he has gathered strength in his daily journey in sobriety.
In this interview, Jason talks about:
- How to get back with God after all the disappointments in life and with yourself
- How to find hope, love and redemption in the recovery journey
- What is serenity and can it be truly attained
- How to handle regrets without relapsing
- What do you do when you want to escape reality again
- Finding your sense of purpose during the journey
- Recalls painful times as an actor that made him feel like he needed to numb the emotions
- Dealing with holidays and family drama during sobriety
- 3 things You can do to jumpstart your journey for sobriety

As a pastor’s kid who grew up in the church, Jason had his fair share of Sunday services. However, none of them prepared him for the disappointments in life – whether it was the relationship that didn’t work out, the dream job that never materialized, the loss of health, or the death of a loved one. For most, it’s simply the dreams that never came into fruition. Church and its collection of “do’s & don’ts” for how to live your life didn’t soothe his broken soul. His faith faltered during his personal struggles, as the chronic pain from 5 spine fusion surgeries overwhelmed him and his bipolar depression left him feeling empty and dead. Jason found alcohol, prescription opioids and fentanyl to be a much better comfort. In 2012, Jason began his sober journey. His renewed life in the spirit promises that all things work together for good for those who love God, and are called according to his purpose. Jason is now helping others as a recovery coach. He is the author of the new book,

I do not belong to a church myself, as I have not yet found a church with a religion that is nurturing and looks upon people as a family, not a commodity. I look back through the centuries and see the history of religion and it terrifies me. How many wars have been in the name of religion? How many people have died in the name of religion? Even today. And why do they have to die to prove themselves to God?
We have diseases that are killing us every day and we have desperate environmental problems far bigger than the argument of whom to pray to. In the end I believe religion is used as a control factor to control those who cannot or will not take charge of their own lives and who are unable or unwilling to give to others. It is all about power and control, theirs not yours, and let us not forget about the money. Look how rich some of the churches are, they collect every week for your guilt. You will go straight to hell if you do not pay the church to forgive your sins. Forgiveness is something you have to do to yourself first and then to ask forgiveness to those you have hurt, no church can exempt you from that no matter what you pay them.

When one stops to look at all the physical challenges Bill has had to overcome one might assume that he would probably have a very limited ability to succeed in life. Well, you couldn’t be more wrong. Bill has, in fact, has enjoyed a very success filled career life that began at the age of 12. By his early twenties, he already established himself as very well respected business leader having been involved in the ownership and executive management of more than a dozen companies. Then in very unfortunate event happened that would change Bill’s life forever and he walked away from everything to start life over again. This new life leads him to build another success filled career that lasted through to 1999, when once again Bill decided it was time to begin all over again.
The story of his life that he has shared on this site is a recount of his discoveries made in quantum energy field dynamics, human behaviour and the how the human mind works along the way. As a result of all this research, he developed a mathematical model of how all these things were interrelated. Using this data model he is now in the process of creating a software program called the Q-factor that will enable people to live more purposeful, meaningful and productive lives. The software allows people by to quickly identify how events in the world around them are affecting their ability to be in the “Zone” of adaptable productivity.
