LM19-12 The next chapter for Our Golden Girl Kechi

“for the LOVE of Music” with Sara Troy and her guest Kechi Okwuchi on air from March 19th

Sara says ” From the very first show with Kechi she has stayed in my heart, and when I speak of strength and courage as an inspiration, Kechi’s name will be spoken, to see Kechi embrace her passion and not let her challenge get in the way is truly heartwarming inspiration, her journey to the finals on Americas Got Talent both times was truly earned for she is such a beautiful talent.

Kechi is a 29-year-old Nigerian-born young woman, currently living in Houston, Texas. She is an MBA student at the University of St. Thomas and self-taught singer. Kechi found her true voice after her accident- a plane crash that took the lives of 107 of 109 passengers in Nigeria in 2005. Throughout the difficult journey of burns recovery, Kechi was sustained by her Christian faith, her family and her music. She resumed high school in 2009 and then went on to the University of St. Thomas, Houston, where graduated Summa Cum Laude in 2015 with a Bachelor’s in Economics. She began to sing and perform at her church, at Burn and Trauma fundraisers and galas, and at family events, sharing what she loved with those she wanted to inspire.

Bobby spent 13 years in the Army, completing four tours in Iraq. While on his fourth tour in Iraq, three weeks after his arrival, an IED blast blew up his Humvee – April 7, 2007 is a day he will never forget. The four soldiers with him were killed, as he stumbled out of the wreck, a human torch. Extinguished by the soldier he had replaced in the Humvee, burns covered almost 40% of his body, bones in his face were fractured, and his head was burned to the skull. Put into a medically induced coma for two weeks, Henline was flown back to the states. Bobby is now a Bravo 748 Vet supporter and comedian.

TSM16/04 Not my time to Die…..Surviving a plane crash

Their Story Matters with Sara Troy and her guest Kechi Okwuchi airs from January 26th.

When her plane went down killing 107 out of 109 passengers, Kachi did not know that there journey to recovery would be so tough, but a woman of resilience and gratitude for life, she gets on with life and living in her purpose.

My name is Kechi Okwuchi and I am a 26 years old, born in Nigeria.

On December 10th 2005, I was headed home from boarding school for the Christmas holidays aboard a local airplane which crashed and killed 107 out of 109 passengers, 60 of whom were fellow students. I suffered third-degree burns over 65% of my body, and I have had to undergo multiple intensive surgical procedures ever since.

Two years into my treatments in America, I decided I wanted to finish high school and enter into a good university by my own merit. I had a strong support system- my family, my friends and my faith- who believed that I would be able to overcome my physical and mental obstacles and achieve my goal. In 2015, I graduated Summa Cum Laude from the University of St. Thomas with an Economics and Marketing BBA. I am currently a market analyst for  African League Of Legends bubble, helping with the development of a marketing campaign for an African art show to be hosted by the non-profit organization in 2016.
