GV22-47. Kevin M. Hallinan COUNTERTERRORISM

Our Global Veterans with Sara Towe Lieutenant Kevin M. Hallinan’s, on air from November 14th

Lieutenant Kevin M. Hallinan’s adventure-packed and insightful journey through the evolution of law enforcement, the rise of counterterrorism, and the birth of modern sports security.

From his hardscrabble NYC upbringing, through the NYPD ranks, to command of America’s first ever joint task force on terrorism alongside the FBI, Kevin M. Hallinan lived a lot of history. From beat cop to detective, Hallinan maneuvered through some of America’s most volatile decades and saw from the inside the tenuous gray line between law and order. The job proved to be extremely isolating. And it was almost always hair-trigger.

Early in his career, Hallinan became embroiled in deadly mob cases, which pulled him under the scrutiny of the feared and historic Knapp Commission on police corruption. In extreme danger and under pressure, he persevered and kept his integrity intact. Higher-ups took notice and brought him into the chief of detectives’ office where he helped reorganize robbery squads and create innovative and responsive new police initiatives. One such effort helped bring awareness and sensitivity to sexual assault investigations and contributed to the creation of the revolutionary Special Victims Unit. And that was only the beginning.

As the 80s unfolded and deadly attacks on police, diplomatic missions, and corporate targets escalated throughout the city, Hallinan relied on the mentoring of a growing network of law enforcement notables. It was compiling this amazing human network that made him the perfect choice to help pull together and lead the pioneering FBI/NYPD Joint Terrorism Task Force. The JTTF, as it came to be known, would go on to create many of the counterterrorism tools and tactics that keep America safe to this very day. After retiring from law enforcement, Hallinan began a new chapter as Executive Director of Security and Facilities Management for Major League Baseball.

His fascinating inside look at a life in law enforcement spans layers of history, explores evolutions in national security, and features game-changing heroes and eye-opening innovations. Kevin M. Hallinan’s life and learning are at once informative, thrilling, entertaining—and perhaps most of all, truly inspiring.

Kevin M. Hallinan is known as an innovative leader in professional sports security and operations. Serving under four commissioners as SVP of Security and Facility Management, Hallinan oversaw security for all thirty Major League Baseball Clubs, creating revolutionary new systems to better protect the game and its players.

Prior to MLB, Hallinan was commander of the FBI/NYPD Joint Terrorism TaskForce, where he was recognized for his contributions in the war on terrorism. He testified before the U.S. Congress on domestic terrorism and received numerous NYPD/FBI citations and the U.S. Attorney General Award for Exceptional Public Service.

Hallinan earned his collegiate degree at Fordham University and attended the FBI National Academy.

Michael is very easy-going, patient, laid back and trustworthy. He has been there to assist his wife in her recovery from being a domestic violence victim to a thriving survivor. When he is not working, he loves to spend time with his wife, Victoria and their three kids. Michael also enjoys fishing, hunting, woodworking, as well as paying it forward in assisting special needs families being that he and Victoria also have a daughter who has special needs. President and Security Advisor.

Giving is not just about making a donation. It is about making a difference.

We are currently in the process of building a kennel system so that we can begin breeding our beautiful golden retriever support dogs. We have been doing all of this plus everything you see on our website out of our own pockets. When we do charge for say some of the classes, we do it for what we pay for the materials. Here soon we will have to take on the expenses of more vet bills, dog food, and so much more. Michael knows first hand how impactful a dog can be, being a Vet who has his own P.S.T.D. he used to wake up with shadows coming through the walls cause him to go for his gun, now with a dog sleeping with him, he no longer has those nightmares.

A dog can sense the pain, anguish, the anxiety the health needs and the fear and more, and with their undying love, they are there for us in a way like no one else can be, so support Michael with his program to get dogs to those in need so they can help those with life challenges navigate life more easily.

GV22-07 Sarajane Giere. My Pilot: A Story of War, Love, ALS.

Our Global Veterans with Sara Troy and her guest Sarajane Giere, on air from February 15th

Sarajane Giere, author of the new critically-acclaimed memoir My Pilot: A Story of War, Love, ALS

For many, the 1960s and 1970s were turbulent times in the United States. For Sarajane Giere, it was a time when she fell in love with her college sweetheart who became a pilot. She lived life from 30,000 feet in the air even when they were 10,000 miles apart. Her book, My Pilot: A Story of War, Love, ALS is a stirring memoir that touches hearts and allows us into the lives of a couple who leaned on each other during tough times in war and health – and who treasured their time together, raising a family, and seeing the world.

“I am so pleased that this book has received strong, positive attention from reviewers and has won a number of book awards,” says author Giere. “I set out to not only write a tribute to a wonderful man whose legacy lives on, but to honor a historical era, the value of service and courage, and what it takes to have a marriage that lasts more than a half-century.”

My Pilot has won three literary awards: The Independent Press Award, The Military Writers Society of America’s Silver Metal Award, and the NYC Big Book Award.

·         How she handled hearing news that her husband’s plane went down –twice– in Vietnam.

·         What it was like to be a military wife during wartime.

·         What the turbulent 1960s were really like during the Vietnam War.

·         Advice for military families welcoming back veterans or coping with PTSD.

·         What it was like to be wed to a pilot during flying’s Golden Era at Pan Am and Delta.

·         How she helped her husband live with ALS – and the toll of caregiving.

Giere offers a uniquely intimate glimpse into the life of a military wife as she tells the story of her fighter pilot husband, Bernie, a Vietnam Veteran who flew 214 combat missions in the war With soaring love and explicit honesty, she recounts the terror of the Vietnam years and the lifelong sacrifices that affected her pilot’s life and death.

Giere, a spunky military wife with a keen knack for storytelling, recounts her fighter pilot’s eventful Vietnam years through his handwritten letters and moving personal accounts. The harrowing shoot-down in enemy territory, the joy upon learning he had a son, and the loneliness of separation are among the many subjects covered. All the while, Sarajane worked with a local police detective to uncover evidence that brought one of her neighbors to justice. With a knack for detail, she recounts the uncertain years with Pan Am, and her husband Bernie’s missions with the NY Air National Guard’s world-class 106th Rescue and Recovery Wing for 25 years.

The love that brought this intrepid couple together during their college years can be felt through the words on every page. Their bond remained strong for 52 years, helping them grasp the courage they needed upon learning of Bernie’s ALS diagnosis later in life. In telling their story, she honors her family that includes the military community, and the nation that she holds dear to her heart.

“A woman recalls her life – never dull and sometimes terrifying – as an Air Force wife in this memoir. … And while of course she did not serve in Vietnam herself, she relates Bernie’s experiences, through conversations and letters, so vividly that readers receive a captivating peek into a soldier’s life there. This is an endearing reminiscence, a kind of love letter from the author to her husband, both sweet and wise. An affectionate recollection of a memorable marriage.”   – Kirkus Reviews

“Whatever happened we were stronger together.” That line defines this love story of a couple whose marriage embodied the vows of “in sickness and in health.” Sarajane Giere’s marriage to a fighter pilot survived not only the regular trials and tribulations of a typical marriage, but also separation during the Vietnam War, furloughs due to mass airline layoffs in the 80’s and finally, a terrible diagnosis of ALS. Through it all, this story read like a handbook, or a successful marriage. Sarajane writes candidly about how love and respect from each partner only strengthens the bonds of marriage. In the end, you know that every trial they underwent, they underwent it together.”–D. Bertino, 5-Star Amazon Review

IG21-42 Colonel David J. Giammona. The Military Guide to Armageddon FOR YOUR SOUL.

Ignite your heart and soul with Sara Troy and her guest David J. Giammona, on air from October 19th

“Using both military and spiritual warfare tactics, this U.S. Army colonel and chaplain fully equips readers to walk in the supernatural power and protection of the Holy Spirit as world events and biblical prophecies intersect”–
We’re about to face the most difficult days in the history of mankind and if we’re not prepared we could be swept away with all the propaganda and all the politics of the world. Unless we’re prepared, unless we’re awakened from our sleep, unless we’re ready to encounter God, then we’re not going to be able to fully engage in the ministry and warfare that God has for us.
?
The church in America, in its current state, is not ready or prepared for the End Times. We have been paralyzed with fear of what man may do to us.
If we are not prepared, we’re going to falter, or even worse, reject our faith and succumb to the world system and the worship of the Antichrist. Whether you’re ready or not, we’re at war right now. The forces of light and darkness are lined up in battle array. You’re either on one side or the other; there is no neutral ground.

Nicole says

“I am a military spouse passionate about uplifting, inspiring, and encouraging all fellow military spouses”.

My own family of 8, with six children ranging from ages 7 to 16, moves every 18 months! We have moved 7 times in the last 8 years, but I wouldn’t have it any other way. We are currently at Tyndall AFB and a part of the 1st Air Force family where I serve as the Key Spouse. We came to Tyndall last summer from Washington, DC where we were stationed at the Pentagon. It was with great honour I was able to serve as the Vice President of the National Guard Bureau Spouses Club, the Programs Chair of the Air Force Officers’ Spouses Club of Washington, D.C., a Committee Member on the Spouse Advisory Council of the Military Officers Association of America, and an Arlington Lady.

Jen Satterly

I am a veteran spouse. I wasn’t with my husband when he deployed on hundreds of missions around the world. I was not with him when he experienced a trauma so deep and losses so profound that his switch for compassion and empathy was flipped off which resulted in several failed marriages and an adult son he rarely speaks to. I met Tom after his time in service and fell in love with an amazing man who also suffered intense and constant physical and emotional pain. We have fought his silent war off the battlefield for nearly 8 years now, and it’s been challenging to say the least for us both. But through our struggles we both have grown further than we knew capable and now work to share our struggles and successes with other military and veteran families. Because there is a light at the end of that very dark tunnel and there is hope for healing.

I’m Jen, the Co-Founder/CEO of All Secure Foundation that I started with my husband Tom Satterly (retired Delta Force CSM) to help others who are going through what we’re going through manage and heal from PTSD.
