TSM17-001 “You Gotta Laugh to Heal” a War Hero’s Story Bobby Henline.

Their Story Matters with Sara Troy and her guest Bobby Henline airs from January 3rd/17

As a 4-tour Iraqi War Veteran, Wounded Warrior, Comedian, and Motivational presenter, Bobby Henline’s story and lived experiences have been featured in numerous media, including the documentaries “Comedy Warriors: Healing Through Humor”, “Healing Bobby”, and “Weight of Honor”; on CNN, PBS KET, NPR, Today.com, and Time.com; Time Magazine, People Magazine, The Huffington Post, Guideposts, and The Nipawin Journal; as well as television, radio, and podcasts around the world. Henline is a retired Army Staff Sergeant, last serving with the 82nd Airborne Division. He spent 13 years in the Army, completing four tours in Iraq. While on his fourth tour in Iraq, three weeks after his arrival, an IED blast blew up his Humvee – April 7, 2007 is a day he will never forget. The four soldiers with him were killed, as he stumbled out of the wreck, a human torch. Extinguished by the soldier he had replaced in the Humvee, burns covered almost 40% of his body, bones in his face were fractured, and his head was burned to the skull. Put into a medically induced coma for two weeks, Henline was flown back to the states.

14484924_1440985812595448_4583912247792009746_nDuring his initial six-month hospital stay, Bobby remained upbeat, positive, and relied on humor to get him through each day. Putting nurses in headlocks, trying to keep other wounded soldiers’ spirits up by telling them jokes, and singing a ditty over and over garnered the attention of his occupational therapist. She challenged him to go to an open mic night and try his hand at comedy. Comedy helps Bobby keep his Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder and Anxiety at bay, and allows him to share his story and healing with others in a positive way. Today, Henline continues his quest to make people laugh in a variety of venues. The open mic night provided him an opportunity to perform professionally as the “Well Done Comedian” at Brad Garrett’s Comedy Club (Las Vegas, NV), Laugh Factory (Chicago, IL), and Hollywood Improv (Los Angeles, CA) to name a few. As a Motivational Speaker/Comedian/Emcee, he collaborates with and performs for various military and military-related organizations to inspire soldiers, veterans, and their families, spreading his message of life, love, and joy; he visits middle and high schools across the country to inspire young people; and speaks at mental health and other healthcare organizations, sharing his story of resiliency, hope, and healing.

TSM16-51&52 How to Handle Grief in the Holidays, with David Kessler

A loss of a loved one, or way of life, the loneliness and deep sorrow are very prevalent at this time of year, please be mind and heartful and reach out and care.

davidk-600x399David Kessler is the #1 grief expert who has spent decades working with those whose loved ones left them broken hearted or they’ve died. He has put together the strategies below as well as a video’s to help those dealing with a loss.

Holidays are about togetherness. How do we have togetherness when the one we want to be with isn’t with us anymore?

images-2For many people, holidays are the hardest part of grieving. When you have lost someone special, your world loses its celebratory qualities.

Holidays only magnify the loss.

David has put together 7 strategies to help get you through the holidays.

  1. Be honest about your grief. There’s pressure to have a joyful holiday even when nothing has gone wrong in life. You’re not a Grinch, you’re in grief! Don’t feel the need to fake it or be happier than you actually are. You don’t have to have a holiday joy!!
  1. Include the loss into your holidays. The grief is there anyway. Light a candle in their honour. Dedicate the prayer before dinner to your loved one. Have everyone at the dinner table share a favourite story about your loved one that died.
  1. Take your grief online. Facebook in the new town square. Share photos of past Christmas. Also, there are many closed Facebook groups, just for those grieving. You will quickly see others are also feeling loss during the holidays.
  1. For events, always have an exit strategy. You don’t have to stay. Feel free to say, you just wanted to drop by or you have another event to get to. You can even text yourself if you need to…time to go!
  1. Re-evaluate your rituals.Choose what works and doesn’t. You can even cancel a holiday. You don’t have to do those 200 Christmas cards. You don’t have to cook the dinner. Free yourself.
  1. “No” is a complete sentence. You should not have to do anything you don’t want to do. And you don’t have to explain it. “No, thank you” also works well.
  1. Pay attention to the children. They are often the forgotten grievers. We think since kids seem busy in school they are fine. Or it’s easier to focus on the adults. But children feel the grief and have less life experience and tools to deal with the loss.

TSM16-50 Finding Our Empowerment with John

THEIR STORY MATTERS  with Sara Troy and her guest John Masiulionis on air from December 13th

john-website-header-new1-jpeg

Through his own spiritual awakening and through the inspiration of Dr. Wayne Dyer, John Masiulionis knew that it was time to take his life and his work in a different direction. While his experience as the host of Monday Night Mayhem, one of the first-ever podcasts and one of the longest-running wrestling radio shows in the world for over a decade, would always be treasured, John knew that his soul was calling him to commit to a path of higher service.

In 2013, John co-founded Soul Luminous Radio, a program that touched thousands of lives with inspirational interviews and spiritual commentary. As the co-host of Soul Luminous Radio, John used his authentic networking approach to connecting with, interview, and promote best-selling authors, including Anita Moorjani, Dr. Joe Dispenza, and James Van Praagh.

In the spring of 2014, John knew that he had his own message of love to get out to the world, but felt that he did not have the “sexy chapter” of his life yet. After fully surrendering his life last summer to God, to Spirit, and to his beloved grandmother and guardian angel Jane Sajecki (who was lighting the way for his journey since her transition three years ago), after a perceived diagnosis of testicular cancer, John reaffirmed his perfect health several months later, and began to take true ownership of his life.

John returned to the place where his life changed forever in the spring of 2014. Even though the calendar may have reflected “two years later,” with the setting being the same (the Roy Thompson Hall in Toronto, Ontario, Canada), the Hay House I Can Do It event was the backdrop where divine timing was revealed, where John’s heart and soul opened up to his intuitive gifts and skills that he had for his entire life, but which he suppressed until that point.

johnAs a recovering “people-pleaser,” John had several addictions that he had to come face-to-face with: an addiction to attention, overthinking, validation, stress and drama, women, and to the past. After he had returned from Toronto, John had to face his deepest perceived fears head-on. He also needed to learn how to put himself first, to fill his cup of love before anyone else’s. And he had to begin to fulfil his soul’s purpose, which was to allow himself to fully express his emotions, feel his feelings, and be entirely vulnerable and transparent to all. The Universe gave him the opportunity to do that later that summer, to release everything that no longer served his highest and greatest good. He was spiritually stripped naked for a second time.

On the eve of his 35th birthday, in the midst of his surrender, “Babcia” (John’s grandmother) spoke to him in prayer and meditation, providing him instructions to begin to offer spiritual guidance and healing services to those in need and to begin a spirituality, self-love, and healing Meetup group in the Buffalo area, entitled Walking Each Other Home, a quote that touched John’s soul when he first came across the works of Ram Dass. John answered the call, followed his divine guidance, and a healing practice of the same name was created.

10405689_10152667489078536_6301446386122141415_nJohn is grateful to serve humanity as a spiritual guide and intuitive healer, using his intuition, life experience, and energy to offer guidance and healing energies to those in need, to hold the sacred space as a vessel of facilitating the healing process, to provide inspiration and motivation for those wishing to move forward in their life’s purpose, to help those who are facing the illusion of challenges, difficulties, and obstacles, and to pass along the knowledge that he has been humbled to learn on his own path of healing, the root of which is self-love and forgiveness, of oneself and others. It is his goal to have you feel, in every cell of your being, the stroke of divine perfection and unconditional love that you are.

Through your private session, you will receive an exchange of love, that will cover the aspects of your life where you feel you need the most direction, which will provide your heart and soul with clarity, peace, and empowering positive energy.

John resides in the Buffalo, NY area. He has begun to write his memoir, My Empowering Miracle, which will also be released in divine timing. His hobbies include spending time with nature, writing, meditating, reading, grocery shopping at Trader Joe’s, and dancing on his yoga mat.

TSM 16-47 Sustainable FOOD for the Globe

Their Story Matters with Sara Troy and her guest Norma Burnson aired from November 22nd

In my heart and so, l I am happiest in a garden. I believe that a garden is the closest we’ll get to God while here on Mother Earth.

Journaling since the age of 12, it wasn’t until I reached the age of 58 that I began writing books. Now I am working on my 3rd book, “Sustainable Food for the Globe; Future Pioneers, The Children”.

Sustainable Food for the Globe stands for wholesome food production, rescuing wasted food and educating our “Future Pioneers” to become ethical stewards of all things found us – here our home, Mother Earth. As a co/founder of Energime University she believes in our ability to sustain our world through education and innovations.  http://energimeuniversity.org

In 2013, Mrs. Burnson received the Delegate Award from The International Women’s Leadership Association in recognition of services rendered to our country as a U.S. Navy Veteran and for demonstrating leadership in both national and international business arenas; for dedication to her community as a college professor and mentor; for being a sustainable food activist and humanitarian.

On Earth Day 2015 the second book in the series Sustainable Food for the Globe, Everyday People Producing Food in Abundance became an overnight 5 star bestseller.

Earlier this year, Mrs. Burnson was invited to participate in The United Nations Environment Assembly, in short UNEA.

The UNEA is the house where representatives from all peoples and sectors of our societies such as parliamentarians, local authorities, indigenous peoples, civil society, business and the private sector, the scientific and academic community – and all peoples in general— can have a say in the design of the solutions for our planet’s health.

In 2014, she was active in the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals Assembly, and in 2013 participated in the United Nations the World We Want Assembly. Continue reading
