LM25-22.“He’s Alive” with Keith Mitchell

“for the LOVE of Music” with Sara Trow and her guest Keith Mitchell, on air from June 3rd

Born in Indianapolis, Keith Mitchell’s musical roots were planted early, singing in church at age seven with his siblings in The Stars of Zion. By twelve, he was leading songs and shaping harmonies, setting the stage for a life steeped in music. Though he majored in business at Indiana University, music pulled him stronger. Through the acclaimed IU Soul Review, he refined his R&B sound, which led to the formation of After 7 with his brother Melvin and Kevon Edmonds. Together, they soared to gold and platinum success with era-defining hits. The trio was initially produced by mega hit-makers Babyface (the Edmonds’ younger brother) L.A. Reid, and Daryl Simmons in the group’s self-titled 1989 debut album which spawned the Billboard #1 R&B (and Hot 100 Top Ten) hits “Ready or Not” and “Can’t Stop.” They released two more albums (including the platinum-selling Takin’ My Time) over the next decade before their initial split.

Yet even amid commercial fame, Keith’s spiritual foundation stayed strong. As a member of World Changers International under Pastor Creflo Dollar, he experienced a deep renewal of faith that redirected his path. This spiritual reawakening inspired a new sound, one that blends his soulful R&B roots with powerful gospel truth.

Now, as a solo artist, Keith is channeling a lifetime of musical mastery into a fresh chapter. With the guidance of faith and the support of like-minded young producers, he’s crafting a sound that is both contemporary and timeless, a testimony of transformation, purpose, and praise. His music is more than melody; it’s ministry with rhythm and soul.

After rejoining After 7 for their 2015 comeback and contributing to their 2021 album Unfinished Business, Keith Mitchell officially stepped away in early 2024. He now begins a new chapter as a solo gospel artist with “He’s Alive,” the powerful lead single from his upcoming debut album Food for Your Life. Rich in testimony and praise, the song marks a bold return to his spiritual roots.

Keith’s journey began in the church, singing with his siblings in The Stars of Zion. Though he strayed from his faith in his teens, he rediscovered it at 40 through the teachings of Pastor Creflo Dollar. That reconnection sparked a deeper purpose, one that now fuels his music with messages of transformation, grace, and spiritual awakening.

Songs like “The Kingdom,” “Rescue Me,” and “Virtuous Woman” reflect his personal evolution and divine inspiration. “He’s Alive” is more than a debut—it’s Keith’s heartfelt testimony and invitation for others to experience the living presence of Christ. As he puts it, “There’s no greater honor than using music to minister to the heart.”

25-22. Is Your Faith Kind?

Sara’s View of Life with Sara Troy, on air from June 3rd

Good morning, good afternoon, and good evening, everyone. Welcome to another edition of Sara’s View of Life on SelfDiscoveryWisdom.com. I’m your host, Sara Troy.

This week, I’m diving into the topic of faith. What’s your religion? And more importantly, is your religion kind? Is it inclusive, diversified, non-judgmental, supportive, and loving?

I honestly don’t care what religion people follow, as long as the foundation is love, kindness, compassion, empathy, and consideration. If your faith condemns others, judges them, or excludes them because they’re different or don’t follow your path, that’s not divine, that’s not God’s faith. Whatever name you give to God—Source, Spirit, Universe, Divine—I refer to mine as “the divine,” a collective wisdom of the universe. My God is not a singular being but an accumulation of wisdom.

I’ve often wondered why I never fully attached to one religion, despite resonating with parts of many. I believe it’s because the work I do requires openness. I can’t be dogmatic or exclusive. If I were only pro-Jesus, how could I represent everyone? My platform is for all walks of life, and their faiths vary, just look at how many branches exist within Christianity alone!

The common denominator should be kindness. Choosing to be compassionate, embracing, and supportive is doing your God’s work, no matter the name. But we must first ignite that divine essence within ourselves, our heart, soul, and spirit. When that inner source is lit with compassion and purpose, it compels us to serve others in ways that are uplifting, not dictatorial.

If a religion teaches that people should be cast out for their sexuality, skin colour, beliefs, or economic status, then we must ask: What kind of God is that? That’s not love. Even those who do harm are held accountable by the divine, not discarded. Accountability is part of the divine plan, it’s not about punishment but growth.

If we hurt others to elevate ourselves, we’ve strayed. True faith asks us to look in the mirror and be accountable, not to hide behind excuses or authority. Whether knowingly or unknowingly, harm is harm. We must act from a place of love and awareness, not ego or insecurity.

We must nourish ourselves with divine love before giving to others. That divine light within gives us clarity, fuels our spirit, and guides our actions. When we tap into that universal intelligence, we operate from a knowingness that transcends logic, it’s wisdom downloaded from a higher source.

This is the God I follow. A God that ignites purpose, shows us our path, and surrounds us with others who can help us rise. This journey isn’t fast or linear; it’s layered, like an onion, with each layer revealing more truth and the depth of the heart, soul, and spirit.

Yes, I am a woman of faith. But my faith is inclusive. It welcomes all, Muslim, Christian, Buddhist, Hindu, agnostic, because the true measure is love and kindness. If your faith allows you to judge or exclude others, it serves man’s ego, not divine purpose.

I believe in being of service, not out of obligation to God, but from gratitude for all the divine offers. We don’t serve God because we must. We serve others because we are grateful for the wisdom, strength, and light we’ve received. God’s greatest desire is that we uplift one another.

This is the essence of my podcast, my writing, and my speaking engagements. If just one person is touched, inspired, or healed through my message, then I’ve done my job. I don’t need to be understood by all, I just hope something I share reaches those who need it most.

So I ask you: What is your faith really about? Does it uplift? Does it love? Does it welcome all under its umbrella?

If so, that’s a faith worth walking.

IG25-21. Lisa Holloway has Awakened to Purpose:

Ignite Your Heart and Soul with Sara Troy and her guest Lisa Halloway, on air from May 27th

Awakening to Purpose: The Call of the Soul

Are you feeling the call?  We all have opportunities for purpose and impact that are just waiting inside of us in the forms of our hopes, dreams, and talents, just waiting to be used to their fullest. Each one of us has come here to make a positive difference in the world. And some of us find that path, and some of us are waiting for the courage, the freedom, or maybe even permitted to do so. Well, here is your permission. Everything you need is inside you right now. The ability and the tools, and now you just need the courage. We’ll talk about how to find that courage.

For most of my life, I lived between two worlds~ one rooted in leadership and logic, the other in intuition, healing, and higher guidance. But the quiet pull of the soul became too strong to ignore. I now help spiritually gifted individuals awaken their abilities, remember who they are, and align with their purpose. This work isn’t just about intuition — it’s about reclaiming inner power, healing what holds us back, and becoming vessels for light in a world that deeply needs it. I share this because I believe the time of hiding is over. The gifts we carry are not accidents, they’re callings. And if you feel the pull, you’re ready to.

25-21. Be Kind On-line

Sara’s View of Life with Sara Troy, on air from May 27th

Good morning, good afternoon, and good evening, everybody. Welcome back to another edition of Sara’s View of Life, right here on SelfDiscoveryWisdom.com. I’m your host, Sara Troy.

Give it a break. I’ve been scrolling through social media, and it’s everywhere—someone has a moment of celebration, and right beside it is someone tearing them down. It’s just getting ridiculous. Whether you agree or not, why do we feel the need to bring someone else down just to make a point?

Take American Idol, for example. A young man named Jamal won, and he was magnificent. I truly wanted him to win. He was a soulful singer who really drew you in with his music. He competed against a country boy named John Foster, who was also very talented—very, very good. But seeing an R&B artist take the stage and win for a change was refreshing. He deserved it.

But the backlash online was disappointing. “It’s rigged,” “He didn’t deserve it,” “I want to see the votes.” And I just thought, where is the grace? Why not just say, “Well done”? Even if he wasn’t your pick, it doesn’t hurt to show some appreciation. Applaud the effort, honor the moment, and move on.

Why do we always feel the need to bash? This feels like a wake-up call. It’s time we change our narrative. There’s this pull toward negativity, and I think that’s a reflection of where people are emotionally. Many are feeling lost, afraid, angry, and anxious. There’s a deep sense of injustice in the air, especially in the political world, where we see dishonesty, ridicule, and manipulation. But that doesn’t mean we have to mirror it.

Just because the world is noisy doesn’t mean we have to add to the noise. It’s easy to get swept up in the chaos, to jump into the drama with pitchforks raised. But it takes more courage and more effort to rise above it. To choose kindness. To center ourselves and seek the light in the dark.

When we pause and listen, truly listen—not just to respond or react, but to understand—we shift the energy. We give space for grace to enter. And in that space, healing can begin. That doesn’t mean we ignore the injustices or pretend everything is fine when it’s not. But we choose not to let those injustices define who we become.

We are not here to be echo chambers of fear and hate. We are here to be light-bearers, wisdom-weavers, compassionate listeners, and conscious creators. We can’t control what others say or do, but we can absolutely choose how we respond, how we show up, and what we radiate into the world.

When we come from love, not the fluffy kind, but the kind grounded in truth, boundaries, and soul, we become catalysts for change. That love holds space for pain, yes, but it also calls us forwarded. It says, “I see you. I hear you. And still, I will not be pulled into the fire of your anger.”

It’s time for us to rise, not in defiance, but in dignity. To be disruptors of division and architects of unity. Let others wage their wars of words, we’ll sow peace in our actions, strength in our silence, and wisdom in our words.

We are the shift. It begins with how we treat one another, online and off. It begins with how we treat ourselves.

It all begins with a breath. A moment of stillness. A choice to respond differently.

C25-20. Travel is in Zach Smith’s DNA.

Choose Positive Living with Sara Troy and her guest Zachary Bonaventure Smith. On air from May 20th

My “why” comes from nearly 20 years of deep learning, personal growth, and navigating the highs and lows of both life and business. I now feel ready—and called—to share parts of my story. What I offer is my awareness, my inner compass guiding me to the next best choice, and the wisdom that comes only through lived experience. I believe in the power of sharing, not as answers, but as reminders—that in our own lives, the journey never really ends. The hardships, the detours, the moments that shake us—they’re not obstacles to avoid, but experiences to be lived through and learned from.

Trusting yourself is the path to personal growth and authentically expressing your unique gifts. If you have a point of view, you owe it to yourself to follow through and live in congruence. Narratives are constantly swirling around, and it’s a test to avoid wasting your time and energy following them. We all have an internal compass that, if ignored, choice after choice, year after year, eventually this world will start to feel and ultimately become overwhelming. I have learned how to navigate by making lots of mistakes but also by testing how important trusting our own light is, even in the face of one of the most challenging and complicated industries aligned and steady actions, step by step can lead you up the mountain…where you realize there is yet another mountain and another mountain. Understanding where you find yourself in the process and ultimately having a LOT of patience is a critical and timeless skill to fall back on.

When I’m not thinking about making travel easier and more transformative for everyone, I’m usually wrangling my two little kids to finish their food, pick up their messes, and to spend more time coloring! My wife and I love being parents and the challenges of keeping our kids IRL as much as possible. Travel is in the DNA of our relationship, as we met on a JetBlue flight from Seattle to New York. As we like to say, it’s been one really long date ever since!

Born in Eugene, Oregon, I was raised by idealist parents who, after growing up in Chicago, embraced the back-to-the-land movement of the ’70s. My parents are still together, and I have two younger brothers.

After graduating from college, I embarked on a one-way journey to Oaxaca, Mexico, which sparked a transformative adventure through Central America. Along the way, a series of serendipitous encounters drew me into the world of tourism, and, remarkably, I ended up launching a business with the very first person I shared my vision with.
