When this happens what can we take away from this experience that can help us to grow? How we do move forward during our grieving process? How do we heal is a way that we can find something positive from the experience?
August Pettigrew, Author and Mother shares with us her poignant experience of losing a daughter after a long battle with a terminal disorder. Her story is not only beautiful, but she shares with us some key learnings that have helped her continue on after such a great loss.

Choose Positive Living with Sara Troy and her guest Sora Vernikoff, on air from October 31st
Today there are 45 million Americans who are planning to go on a diet or are on a diet and have no peace with food. These unhappy dieters might lose their weight in the short run but in reality, 97% of those folks will regain all their weight and more within the three years that follow their
dieted weight-loss.
The dieting industry is a 61 billion dollar weight-loss industry and so that’s what doctors push
it. The bottom line is that there a lot of money at stake in the treatment of obesity. To complicate
matters, Obesity has recently been classified as a disease by the American Medical Association and so that doctors hope that insurers will cover more treatments for obesity and so even though diets
ultimately don’t work that’s what they will prescribe.

Sora Vernikoff healed herself of compulsive eating over 20 years ago while she was a classroom educator in a Brooklyn inner-city school. One day Sora looked at her challenging 35 fourth graders kids and thought to herself, “Why do these kids listen to me and yet I can’t stop thinking about food or eating?” Sora then stopped dieting, journaled all her eating experiences and let 25 pounds go which she has not regained to this day.
When Sora reached her no dieted weight loss goal, Sora knew that she could transfer her classroom “management” techniques to food “management” techniques and Sora’s Weight Loss “Management” Program was born. The Program as taught to hundreds of unhappy dieters lets you eat what you want, stop when you want and become forever thin and healthy and all without having to diet.
Sora’s Weight Loss “Management” Program as taught in “Eat What You Want! Stop When You Want! A No Diet, Weight-Loss Program” is in a workbook format and is made up of two very special eat and stop yourself techniques. First, there’s The “Green” Technique and then there’s The “Red” Technique. Now, The “Green” Technique lets you first decide how much of the food that you want is enough and then set aside the amount that is “too much” called your “Too” Much Marker. Then you can “eat” the amount that you decided was “enough” amount but not your “Too” Much Marker. This lets you know by Program definition that you have eaten and stopped yourself. The “Red” Technique is similar to The “Green” Technique but is different in the way that it actually works.
There are also three additional no diet, weight-loss “management” strategies in this no diet program that supports The Program User by reducing the amount of time that it will take him to reach his non-dieted weight loss goal.

Choose Positive Living with Sara Troy and her guest Jeff Emmerson. ON AIR FROM October 31st
Beyond ADHD weaves Jeff Emmerson’s personal story of his ADHD diagnosis, exploring along the way the latest medical, scientific, and societal explanations and tools for managing and living with the condition. Including interviews with a number of experts at the forefront of next-generation ADHD diagnostics and treatment, he questions the cookie-cutter way ADHD is commonly diagnosed and treated. Suggesting that the list of symptoms often used to identify ADHD can be attributed to many other disorders and conditions, he explores how and why ADHD diagnoses have increased by 50% in the last ten years.
Emmerson advocates a different approach to ADHD, arguing that it should be a diagnosis of exclusion rather than the other way around and that we must look past the label, recognizing that individual symptoms vary and treatment plans should be better tailored to the individual. He examines mental and behavioural issues from all sides, including the possibility that nurturing—rather than trying to alter or suppress—the active, “360-degree” mind is a viable way for those diagnosed with ADHD to realize their gifts and lead purposeful lives.

He has done the work in his own life and is a shining example of the human spirit in action. Signing his first book deal in May, 2016 was “just the beginning of my mission to help millions live better lives through tools and lessons that many of us never learned in school, myself included.”
Born and raised in Ontario, Canada, Jeff began speaking publicly to raise awareness of ADHD and mental health issues in 2011, following a suicide attempt and resulting ADHD diagnosis. (Two years earlier, he had lost his brother Ryan to suicide). In 2013, he took to social media channels and began blogging to reach an even larger audience — at which time he began reworking an old manuscript he had written about his life.
He is a passionate advocate for mental health, and fostering a deeper understanding beyond the accepted symptoms that have led to more than 30 million North Americans taking ADHD medication. He seeks to come up with solutions that return society to a place of compassion, humanity, community and empathy. He is represented by Dana Newman Literary Agency in Beverly Hills, California.
Choose Positive Living with Sara Troy and her guest Chuck Anderson, on air from October 24th
Parenting is a joy and yet a challenge, they are individuals of their own journey of self-discovery in life and what purpose they have in this world. We are their custodians and here to guide them forward in life and give them our life wisdom for them to grow into being an abundant beautiful purposeful human being.
Charles will share with us some parenting tips on raising our children by truly hearing them and what they need to become all they are meant to be.
Charles Murray Anderson — Author, Blissful Parenting.
My name is Charles Murray Anderson, Founder of Blissful Parenting. I help parents, teachers and caregivers to transform child behavior problems using positive discipline techniques that will stop the bad child behavior for good.
The material that I share in my book, courses, and workshops is really inspired by the behavior challenges that I face with my own children as well as the study that I have done over the last nine years. My most recent work is my book called Blissful Parenting which you can find on Amazon.
Over the past 6 years, I have embarked on a transformational journey that would forever change the way I view myself as a parent, my own behavior, as well as the relationships that I have with my children and my wife.
Now, not only do I enjoy more peaceful times with my family, but I also get to help other families locally in the Lower Mainland area of Vancouver, BC as well as a worldwide online audience. My book, courses, and workshops are held in schools, pre-schools, and daycares as well as through online media.
Inspired By My Own Challenges With Child Behavior
My tolerance level challenging behavior finally reached it’s threshold when my children seemed to be walking all over me when we were getting them ready for bed one night. I said to myself “That’s it! I’ve had it!.” But it wasn’t that easy at first. It turns out that this behavior is hard to eliminate once it gets started and is allowed to go on for awhile.
My first behavior reform method was punishing them! … BUT, this only worked the first couple times and then the behavior just kept coming back again and again, never really getting the message. No matter what the punishment was, eventually it was rendered totally and completely useless, day after day.
So I searched online for a solution but there wasn’t really any helpful information out there. Most of it was scattered and spotty at best. I couldn’t find any decent guidance to solving this problem and I wasn’t about to start spanking my kids (or any other kind of violence) as a way of scaring them straight.
Also, the idea of using potentially harmful “behavior control methods” on my beloved children didn’t sound too appealing either.
But after a lengthy process of trial and error, I figured out exactly what had to be done!
Their Story Matters with Sara Troy and her guest Valerie Silveira, on air from October 24th
Valerie Silveira, Author of the Award-Winning Book, “Still Standing After All the Tears: Putting Back the Pieces After All Hell Breaks Loose” and Creator of the Nine Actions to Battle Your Beast. She is an author of two other books, a speaker, mentor, coach, and consultant. In 2004, Valerie’s eighteen-year-old daughter was shot by her ex-boyfriend. Over the next decade, Jordan’s* life spun out of control and as a result, Valerie’s spiralled into darkness. She would face the heartbreaking reality that Jordan was a heroin addict and the painful truth that she is powerless to save her from her Beast. With a heart shattered into a million pieces, a broken family, health issues, financial hardship and depression, Valerie was giving up hope of ever being happy again. At a very dark time in her life, she found a shred of hope, and a tiny bit of courage, and made a decision that probably saved her life – she decided to Stand Up & Fight. “Still Standing After All the Tears” takes you on a journey through the agony and hopelessness of losing her child over and over again to drug addiction, and into the Actions, Valerie used to battle her own Codependent Enabler Beast. Moms all over the United States, Canada, the U.K., Australia, and New Zealand are following the Nine Actions and learning how to Stand Up & Fight. Although Valerie was painfully aware of the possibility of Jordan dying from an overdose, nothing could have prepared her for that knock on the door, August 28, 2016. Her daughter, Jamie, (whom she had called Jordan), was murdered. The nightmare her family lived through in 2004, had returned. Only this time, Jamie didn’t make it. Through the devastation of losing Jamie, of losing hope of her recovery, Valerie has fought to regain her courage, to stand up again, and to continue her mission of helping moms and others. She is living proof that it is possible, even in your darkest hours, to Stand Up & Fight. Valerie has had a diverse career in finance, business operations, consulting, training and speaking. None of her business challenges came even close to that of trying helplessly to save her daughter. She uses her professional experience and her two rides on what she calls the Roller Coaster From Hell, to help others put the pieces of their life back together. Valerie has an incredibly relatable style, and her sense of humour shows through the pain. The book and the Actions are important not only for families of addicts but for anyone struggling to move through or past a traumatic life situation. *Until Jamie’s death, Valerie chose to call her daughter “Jordan” out of respect for her story.
