21-40 Falling for Fall

Sara’s View of Life with Sara Troy, on air from October 5th

I love Fall, all the beautiful colours of the trees and the feeling of coziness as we get into out favorite sweater. It is also a time were we buckle down laying out plans and visions for the spring to awaken to. I have a lot of work to do this fall and winter, a book to write, a book to produce, new business scale on my site.

Lots to do that we do do in the colder months because we are in doors more. After this Birthday Month (Oct 6th) my birthday, my sons Oct 24th my Brother Oct 26th daughter wedding anniversary and Thanks Giving too, it is a busy month. I do not anticipating getting much done this month, will do shows and laying the ground work, but November, December, January and February, work work work.

So what it on your agenda for this fall? any plans you want to achieve and or set in motion for harvest in the Spring?

21-39 Thank you Montreal

Saras View of Life with Sara Troy, on air from September 28th

Well after 41 years in Canada I finally went to Montreal. I went with my 88 year old friend Lucette Audrey whose home it was. She wanted to see her city one more time. Seeing the city through her eyes was wonderful, she has a child like enthusiasm that sweeps her along with you flapping after her. Her energy is abundant, but after 30 miles in 3 days she finally was tired.

We were so lucky with the weather, it was warm the entire time, and even hot on some days. We walked and walked seeing all her memories of a life lived there some 60 years ago. Yes we got lost at times, but that was ok, because there was always something to discover.

We did the Big Wheel and saw the city from greater heights. We walked St Catharines street, Rue de Denis , St Laurent where we found many a good restaurant and with the streets being closed of, a lot of entertainment.

It is good to see the wonderful history that is Montreal, the culture and the vibe is very inviting. People are so friendly, and both French and English are spoken there. We went to a concert Rafael, it was wonderful to her such uplifting music again. We walked through McGill university grounds and saw all the student sitting on the grounds studying of chatting with each other.

C21-37 Sheryl Ann Wilson, Overcoming the Odds

Choose Positive Living with Sara Troy and her guest Sheryle Ann Wilson, on air from September 14th

I am a singer, songwriter, author, speaker and a seeker. My story started from early life experiences and then later in her early 30’s I was deemed disabled.  This brought out the researcher and writer as well as speaking, in me as I was initially involved with a disability non-profit where I learned much and was consistent in speaking up for the disabled people, as well as dealing with new disabled category illnesses that came to me in my life. I continued being involved in several different non-profits either being an advocate, board director, or president.

BB21-37 Ellen M. Snee, EdD, Claiming our Authority

Building Your Business with Sara Troy and her guest Ellen M. See, on air from September 14th

Ellen M. Snee, EdD, a former Catholic nun and author of LEAD: How Women in Charge Claim Their Authority. From the C-suite to the Senate floor, women in leadership positions are at historic highs. And research now shows that women are more effective than men in 84% of competencies associated with leadership. Yet many accomplished and capable women continue to struggle with issues related to ambition, power, and authority. What explains this disconnect? Dr. Snee, who has been at the forefront of women’s leadership development for more than 25 years, is available to share her unique perspective on women leaders in roles of authority.

Informative, uplifting, and empowering, LEAD is a leadership book for our times. It has received advance praise from business leaders, academics, and experts on women’s leadership including Sally Helgesen, best-selling author of How Women Rise, The Female Vision, The Female Advantage.

Snee’s earlier experience as a Catholic nun affords her a unique perspective on women leaders in roles of authority. She lived and worked with women who ran large educational and non-profit institutions. There she learned how:

  • women can collaborate with other women while navigating the male hierarchies
  • to mobilize individuals, teams, and organizations toward a shared mission
  • to assert her authority when necessary without harming relationships with others
  • to gain critical—and transferable—skills that apply to all women who want to exercise power and authority as a leader

Possible Topics that Dr. Snee speaks to include:

Claim Your Desires, Communicate With Purpose, and Lead With Authority
In this inspiring, actionable talk, she lays out her proven coaching model for leading from the inside out. Rooted in psychology and real-world experience, she shares illuminating stories and practical tips that audience members can immediately put to use.

Performance vs. Promotability: The Key to Career Advancement

Women often see merit as the best way to get ahead: Keep your head down, get the work done, cultivate good relationships with your team or staff. But there is a difference between performance and promotability and it’s key to advancing in your career.

Holding Power and Embracing Discomfort

Leading with authority means embracing power, not just “influence.” Power means you are in control, including the ability to hire, fire, manage assets, and impact lives. This includes the unique challenges — and opportunities — inherent when women have authority including over other women.

Networking With Authority

The power of a network is not “who you know,” but “who knows you.” It’s vital to build webs of connection with individuals and organizations outside and beyond your own company. These relationships become increasingly important over the course of a career.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR:

21-37 A Different Kind of Courage

Sara’s View of Life with Sara Troy, on air from September 14th

The courage I had when I was young was in some way mindless, we believed as a young person does, that we can do anything and nothing will hurt us, we learn through life’s lessons that is not always so. I was such a timed person until I went to South Africa at the age of 14 y. Old. I was desperately shy, but loved one on one conversation (still do). When we arrived in S.A, I was frown into the deep end and had to get social very fast, that is when I discovered my courage.

I had in many ways had to fake it before I convinced myself, but in doing so, I discovered a person I never knew was there. I became and still am an extrovert introvert, an Alfa Beta personality. To others I was this exuberant young woman who tried everything, I did not know if I could do it until I tried to do it, which means I could not do it a lot of the time, but I would not know what I could do unless I tried.

I went into jobs like that, always unqualified, but in belief, I could do it, how would I know unless I tried. I realized my strengths and weakness and learned to focus on my strengths. We sell ourselves short, thinking we can’t when we from the inside out, know we can. It is different from when we were young, we were daring, challenging, excited, and sometimes unthinking. Now as we age we understand that our courage has a different purpose and that we can still be daring but in a more soul heartful way.

I have leaped at many things in life, now I am slower to leap, but that does not mean I am not still adventurous, it just means more discerning. Realistically, my body can not do what it used to, and my spirit may be a bit dulled. I have still within me, much to explore and do, but now it is within my energy and infusiasim.
