TSM 17-07 David Snape, a Passionate Autistic DJ & Blogger.

Thier Story Matters with Sara Troy and her guest David Snape. On air from February 14th

david-snape

My name is David Snape, 26 years old and I have autism. I want to help other people through via my radio show or helping others getting their content on my blog to gain more followers and support. Not only that but to inspire others by saying that you can inspire to do great things in your life, autism maybe is a part of you but if you get over that important hurdle, the possibilities are endless. I’m currently in the process of writing my own autism story, using my own experiences.

How would I sum myself up as simply as I can? I am just an ordinary 26-year-old man, who loves his gaming, sport, work, friends and family, who wants to try his best every day and doesn’t want to let people down.

I have autism but I feel like everyone else in this world, I don’t talk much bout my condition although it is something that will stay with my throughout my lives.

There are areas which I was more successful at like maths, IT and I do remember stuff but in terms of English or other subjects do tend to struggle, henceforth why I got a learning difficulty.

Throughout my early life as a kid, I struggled to find out who I was, I tend to be aggressive without knowing I actually do that and only eat bread and marmite, even at Christmas.

Education started off a struggle but education was always going to be a slow progress, speech on some areas like ch, for example, wasn’t very good at all.

Finding friends was hard and nobody seems to want to go near me. I felt all along, especially if I was invited to a kids party.

It was only till I went to a special school called the Priory school that I felt very comfortable and was starting to see who I really was. I will always thank the school for what they did to me.

College was an opportunity to find my own path and become more independent and achieve a grade in A Level Maths was a fantastic achievement as well as a C in GCSE English.

I have worked in a factory, a production operative, in food, in online sales and now as a post worker, a job with a long future in prospect.

Over the time, I feel more confident in my social life, through the help of work, family, and Facebook. Even doing interviews for my radio show is a lot of fun and that has helped me throughout.

I will give up hope, though. Most questions when I was younger asked to me was, are you gay? Are you a virgin? Well now I can say with a big smile on my face, I am not gay or a virgin, so there.

One of the reasons for doing these blogs is because there are certain things that are better said writing down and it makes you feel better to get them off your chest. Now it’s a showcase where people show off their writing talents to the world.

Overs are just for fun and to try and inspire other people. I will keep posting blogs about different things and hopefully make some people notice.

For my music selection, I have put together for Self Discovery Wisdom take a listen here.

Our programs are provided in the spirit of hospitality. We make efforts to cultivate a warm and welcoming presence when you walk in the door, from friends you know, volunteers who want to get to know you, and staff who are always there for you.

It is virtually impossible to begin to improve your life when you don’t have a safe and secure place to call home. First United provides support along the housing continuum, from our low barrier shelter to family units to specially equipped housing for people with disabilities.

First United has been engaged in legal advocacy work since the 1970’s, providing much needed legal assistance, advice and representation to low-income and vulnerable people in the Downtown Eastside. Today, we support clients with upwards of 2,800 unique cases every year, helping people resolve a range of issues, including tenancy, social assistance, old age security, immigration and more. We are committed to empowering people to assert their legal rights and make their voices heard.

First United can be described as a “one-stop shop”. We provide a wide range of programs and services that help meet basic needs – like tax returns, hot showers and mail service. All offered in a welcoming, joyful place where everyone can feel at home.

Meals and Hospitality

Good things happen when we gather around the table to break bread with our neighbours. Every week, we serve thousands of meals to any and all people who come seeking sustenance and acceptance. Weekday breakfast, lunch and tea-time are open to the whole community, and residents of our shelter enjoy 3 hearty meals a day, 7 days a week. We also offer special community meals on Fridays, most weekend lunches and holidays.

Community groups and local businesses are invited to sponsor and serve meals for the community. Some of our meal providers have been partnering with us for years: this is a powerful way to connect with and celebrate the vibrant Downtown Eastside community.

TSM 17-05 “Voice of Women” with Her Story Matters.

Their Story Matters with Sara Troy and her guest Harriet Khataba, on air from January 31st.

1901117_602741463146917_1888760990_n

I want to leave a legacy, to bring 350 million women from around the world in one voice, to fight for those without a voice.

2016 was a remarkable year for Her Stroy Matters as we did 4 events

One for the mentees that we mentor, they inspired their peers and exercised their gift and talent and were able to inspire women their age to aspire to greatness

A time to heal was also another powerful event we did, we had diverse speakers and many women experienced inner healing and broke free from what was holding them back. emotions were released and the women were confident in their identity.

Heart to Heart intimate moments went extremely well. we had powerful
speakers that inspired women and women experienced deep healing and the
assurance that their story does matter and are valued

Women in leadership was another amazing event that announced HSM and why we do to the corporate world. Women at the top of their game inspired upcoming leaders and women who are interested in moving forward as well as to assure that they are all leaders in different capacities. The key note speakers shared their story to the top too which inspired women in the room.

Our Heart to Heart event ( we are increasing from 1 a year to 2) will be hosted in a different city this year as well as London.

images-2Women in leadership will take place again in November 2017 and will run
every year.

Her Story Matters magazine was launched in December with our Christmas edition, this magazine had international contributors which is the essence of HSM and what we believe in.

In 2017 Her Story matters launched its #onevoice campaign in January 1st globally.

This campaign saw women sending their pictures with their story or a small message to women in the world that they matter and are standing in solidarity with them.

This campaign will be done differently from the other ones we have had in that we will run it alongside partnerships and collaborations with our Affiliates Globally to work with children in schools, to women telling
their stories, to bringing economic change by bringing sustainable projects and programs to communities such will include:

1. Revolutionizing Farming Methods Providing children with educational needs
2. Providing adults with sustainable education programs and projects to enhance their communities
3. Educational programs to bring change and eradicate female harm
4. cultural practices encouraging more women in technology and innovation

And many more projects that are in the planning process.

We will start recording the long-anticipated TV show this year as well And officially launch and establish Her Story Matters presence in 5 countries which will be announced soon once the partnerships have been
solidified.

I Harriet Khataba is an international speaker and coach to women in Business
and a Business consultant, I am doing more media appearances sharing my story and passion. I am mentoring amazing women spiritually and will be launching a new brand product end of this year.

Harriet Khataba:  Founder: Her Story Matters

add-heading-1As the founder and chief operator of the Her Story Matters organization, Miss. Harriet Khataba, has seen her career evolve into an achievement, which encompasses a global public interest that manifests the betterment and achievements of all women. Harriet’s dedication to speaking out for the unheard has become interwoven into her own voice. This path in media public speaking and mentoring has unintentionally become Harriet’s own true story while seeking to tell the stories of all women across the globe.

Born and raised in Kenya, East Africa, Miss Khataba recognized the hardships of an alternative culture from western influences as a child. Harriet was raised in a large family of six children with separated parents. Her experience guided her into a life navigated by a need to raise awareness of youth and women in all cultures. Her passions; to aid, influence understanding, and advance awareness of misconceptions, lead to personal suffering over indifference and inequality of women in all cultures.

Harriet came to the UK with intention of being a success and of one day owning her own business. Harriet chose to leave for London to pursue her passions of becoming a leader and to own a business as a woman. However, different mindsets and roadblocks are overwhelming most times when believing that you can only work for others… People can be difficult when starting your own business. Miss Khataba found self-employment challenging at first. She then chose to get her degree and to work in diverse fields while always looking for greater things to achieve her dream. She continued to earn a degree in Hospitality and Business Management.

Miss Khataba built her career working with Merrill Lynch and Deutche, working in fashion, hospitality, and eventually media. She found a niche in media where she began producing multiple video production series. Today, driven to make a difference, Miss Khataba is leading a cause to bring communities together across the globe and at home as the founder of Her Story Matters.

During this time Harriet found herself involved in arts and media. As the field was entertaining and career-worthy, it was a great step. However, this also began a rough time where she suffered from depression and thoughts of suicide. The results of this time became a springboard for her future. However, this issue was something that would have never been spoken about within Harriet’s family or culture. She came from such a background that such things were never spoken of publicly. Harriet felt at this time as if she was at a place where she was drowning with no one to notice. This enlightened her. This moment inspired Harriet into the plight of others who are going through the same thing or much worse. It is from this dark moment that Her Story Matters was born. As Harriet says it, “Her Story Matters founded me And not the other way round.”

Miss. Harriet Khataba is a shining example of how women of all upbringing and creed may find success in all they choose to achieve. Harriet is an Advocate for change, helping women to identify their potential and to have their voice heard. As a contributor in radio programs, television programs, keynote events, speaking engagements and other media publications Harriet is passionate about her cause.

TSM 17-03 “Sex Trade” Modern Day Slavery with Denise Antoon

Their Story Matters with Sara troy and her guest Denise Antoon, J.D., M.S., on air from January 17th

sex-trafficking-1-638

Human Trafficking is Modern Day Slavery. There are more slaves today than any time in history.  Human Trafficking is defined as the use of force, fraud, or coercion to obtain some type of labour or commercial sex act.

  • The International Labour Organization estimates that there are 20.9 million victims of human trafficking globally.
    • 68% of them are trapped in forced labour.
    • 26% of them are children.
    • 55% are women and girls.
  • The International Labor Organization estimates that forced labour and human trafficking is a $150 billion industry worldwide.
  • Companies lose an estimated $12 Billion a year because employees are using company time and resources for pornography and prostitution.

9637835fd4e056757a9e86e620d217dc Our mission is to educate and eradicate human trafficking in business. The travel industry and businesses are just now starting to take a stand against the fastest growing crime.

People are not aware how prevalent it is or that it is happening in plain site.  This is not just an “over there” problem.  This is a crime happening in your own backyard.  It happens in hotels, restaurants, farms, factories and even major sporting events.  The Super Bowl is the single largest incident of human trafficking each year.  Ignoring the problem is makes society more complacent in it.
