Don’t Drink and Fly

9781782790167“Bernice is a witch living in Glasgow. She loses her way in her life and wanders off the beaten track looking for the garden of enlightenment. Bernice is a witch with many skeletons in her closet. She has an addictive personality, works as a holistic therapist, and struggles to maintain any intimate relationships. Her spells are not always as accurate as they could be, often the result of her having a few too many goblets of red wine.
When mysterious letters start appearing at her door, she begins to think about her childhood and, with the help of her long-suffering friend Maggie, tries to come to terms with her past and the family she left behind. But nothing in Bernice’s life is ever simple…

Cathie Devitt Born in Glasgow Scotland April 1958 Cathie was part of a huge Catholic/Irish family. Born into a family of 4 children. (3 girls and 1 boy.) Cathie was not the oldest, nor the youngest nor the favoured son. She was just “The other one” Whilst her siblings sailed through conventional lives, Cathie was always the wild one who had to be warned to behave when visiting friends and relatives. Un-harnessed creativity she says. When Cathie was about 13 years old her mother came home to find a strong smell of emulsion paint greet her at the front door. Cathie’s father gave his wife a cup of tea and said, “She’s creative, just let her express herself.” Cathie had the radio on full blast and was happily painting cream and blue clouds in the bedroom of the family’s council (social housing) flat ( just happened to be the colour of the paint that she had found under the kitchen sink). Inspired by her own artistic talent, Cathie kept going until the paint tin was dry. Result?- clouds on the walls, the ceiling, the door and painted over her grandmother’s solid mahogany  bedroom furniture that was  a family heirloom.

Cathie’s mother says that her daughter’s first words were, “But Why?” and her second “But why not?”

Some things never change.

“I wrote and performed in my first play at primary school aged 11 years. Life took over and writing was consigned to work related bumff the quality of which somehow stopped me from being sacked or evicted.”

“I studied at Glasgow and Strathclyde University whilst working and bringing up my two daughters alone. Oh what fun we had! Tears, tantrums, hormones and hooch. (The girls sometimes kicked off too.) The studies resulted in bits of paper that no-one ever asked to see but somehow greased the rungs of the career ladder high enough to ensure that the three of us never went hungry.”

The flame of desire to write has flickered on and off, but never been snuffed out. Encouraged by publication in various genres, Cathie Devitt moved on to support others by facilitating creative writing workshops. Cathie has also written and performed drama workshops in a corporate environment to showcase company policies and practices, such as Health and Safety and Equality in the workplace. Add to that writing and performing in Festival Theatre and training as a laughter yoga therapist and you can see why Cathie Devitt is in a class of her own.

Cathie has very little time to dedicate to her own pleasures. Work and family commitments make sure of that. However, to release her Diva within Cathie has-

Trained as a laughter yoga leader

Performed as an actress and stand up comedian

Zip slid in the forest and tackled rope bridges and swings

Explored various countries and cultures whenever the opportunity arose

Loves her daughters two dogs (Lhasa Apsos) Darcy and Sparkle

Embraced Creative writing

Fell in love with a poet when she was 50!

Always keen to try new activities – has enjoyed taster Hatha Yoga, hot stone massage and meditation.

NOW for filling her DIVA she has written her first trilogy bring us the adventure of Bernice the wine loving Witch………………

P14/34a TAKE THE DOG OUT! and NUMBERS!

Originally Aired August 26th 2014  on Positive Living Vibrations with Sara Troy and her guest Lynne Dempsey

schoolgrpLynne Dempsey is an Amazon best-selling children’s author of the books, TAKE THE DOG OUT! and NUMBERS! She is also a Readers’ Favorite Book Award Finalist and Global Ebook Awards Nominee.

Lynne’s goal is to make kids giggle while they learn. As a mother of two, she knows it can be difficult to get children to read. Sometimes, they get frustrated.

cover - w boneweb4TAKE THE DOG OUT! is a picture book intended to build a child’s reading confidence. It has fun illustrations, repetitive text, and sight words. In addition to reading the story, a child can find hidden dog bones, count the barks, and look for something red on every page. Take the Dog Out! is a humorous picture book about a family who is too busy to take their dog outside. When the family ignores the barks, baking pans fly through the air, coffee splashes on the carpet, and Grandma gets wrapped in a cloud of toilet paper. Eventually, the family decides a walk outside is what they ALL need. (At the moment, TAKE THE DOG OUT! is Amazon’s #1 children’s pet books. It has been #1 for more than 45 days. It has also been #1 on Amazon’s best sellers list for Basic Concepts, Early Learning, Dogs, and Words.)

new cover - numbers!webpage3NUMBERS! is the second book in the Take the Dog Out series. In this book, children can help Coco and her neighbourhood friends count from zero to ten and back down to zero. Along the way, they add, subtract, and count the dog bones. NUMBERS! has also been on Amazon’s best sellers lists.

On a more personal note, Lynne is a former newspaper correspondent and a graphic designer. Her family includes a wonderful husband, two fabulous children, and a dog named Coconut. Coco is the inspiration for the Take the Dog Out! series. Coco loves going for walks!

P14/28a StevieG an Artist Life

Airing July 15th to July 21st on Positive Living Vibrations with Sara Troy and her guest StevieG

Discovery his art, StevieG takes on his journey on becoming an artist.

IMG_3898Stephen Goodman born Vancouver BC 1967 for about 10-12 years up until 5 years ago I wasn’t who I am now. I’m 47 but really in my 30’s. Up until 5 years ago I was looking after my mother,as she had mental health issues mainly bipolar. she died in march 2009 from Cancer and at this time she was in a home as she started getting worse and she could not be trusted to look after herself. 18-34 was a weird time for me as I never had a girlfriend and was to scared to ask women out. I had no friends really but in my late 30’s I would meet a well known Juno award winning musician. This eventually lead to meeting a guy by the name of Tyler Simpson http://www.observeone.com and we would become best friends.

Tyler was a talented photographer who is my mentor.  I started going to a lot of music shows and hanging around the scene in my early 40s. I looked younger and fit in. I felt I had a place. I started taking photos of these many shows of the musician’s (hiphop RB artists) I felt fake in some ways. I started dressing in hiphop clothes that maybe someone 17-25 would wear. Meeting younger women was a confidence boosted. I would also then start meeting graffiti artists and going to art shows in Galleries such as the Fall tattooing and Ayden Gallery. I studied the culture through books and started photographing graffiti spots and found a voice there.

5 years ago I had Cancer in March 2009 the same month my mom passed from it. Testicle removed and we carry on….. I had started taking lots of photos of East Vancouver in B.C and loving the whole culture of it. I started getting into Street Photography and learning from Tyler. I slowly stopped doing hiphop shows and started finding my way. In 2010 I took off on a trip to NYC. That changed me.I started honing my skills and by taking thousands of photos became the artist I am now.

Ansel Adams said the first 10.000 photos will be your worst and am getting there.  In 2011 I went to NYC again, this time with Tyler. we shot all over Harlem,Brooklyn Manhattan. Started going up to people almost right in theirs faces and photographing the moments. January 2012 at age 45 I get my second tattoo saying Eastvan, My first one in 2011 was Cancer Free. My third is a Ansel Adams quote (you don’t take a photograph you make it)  May 2012 am I have part in my very first gallery showing with a few hundred people there for the opening. Summer that year I had a photo at another gallery this time as part of a book project called This is Eastvan. This was the second one and i had two photos in the book. New York City called me again this time getting the real Brooklyn experience.  Summer 2013 I have had my photos in my favourite gallery Ayden. 5 years earlier I would never imagined I would be one of those artists that had theirs there.

47 years old finally figuring out who I am when most people do that between 18-30. Never married no kids I’m not a typical guy my age. Women think I’m 32 and that’s just the way I like it because I really am that person and not feeling like a poser any more. I aspire do do many things that the 20-35 set is doing. Burning man Basscoast on and on. I feel good in great shape loving who I am and I have started believing in the universe  and embracing it more. My goals are to find a woman thats a artist like me into the same things and perhaps wants to move to NYC one day,but i’d be happy just living in Eastvan too. I working on a few things and hope to have my own show sometime soon. Oh I have even now had a photo displayed in a NYC gallery. Surreal. Life is good. I do have my ups and downs but pretty happy.

Link to show is just a click and INSTANT LISTENING.

Go to google and type in Welcometoeastvan StevieG this will bring up a video of me getting my east van tattoo and many of my east van photos. whew…thats me!

P14/27b An Unapologetic D.I.V.A

Aired July 8th on Positive Living Vibrations with Sara Troy and her  “Living Unapologetically”  host guest Tiffany Phillips.

12592624_10153374929230248_2894191140057823148_n

Once a little girl who wanted to be anyone but herself to a fully realised D.I.V.A ( dreams, inspirations, visions, and aspirations) who lives her life unapologetically, Tiffany Phillips shares the beauty of her imperfections in a relatable and candid way. Courageously leaving her small town at the age of 17 to pursue her dream of acting in New York, she shares how that experience was pivotal in shaping her into the woman she is now. Moments such as that are the through the line for her life of living on the edge, taking risks and living as the Nike mantra says, “Just Do It,” she does just that.

Living an adventurous life that most could only dream of and still, she’s not done. The best is yet to come. Stay tuned weekly to “Living Unapologetically” to hear her wisdom and humour wrapped up in a warm hug of inspiration.

“I take risks in my life because I don’t want to risk not living.” ~Tiffany Phillips

Tiffany Phillips is an accomplished actress, comedian, singer, writer and producer based in Los Angeles with an extensive background in film, television and theatre. In February of 2013, Tiffany created her critically acclaimed one woman show “I Never Met a Jerk I Didn’t Like,” which she has performed to sold out audiences both in Los Angeles and Off Broadway in New York.

To do a solo show is a courageous feat. It is both cathartic and validating to write and perform from the heart. Being open to examining herself, her mistakes and able to laugh at them is what has made the show such a smashing success. People respond to authenticity and if there’s one thing Tiffany is, it’s authentic and real.
