BB20-32 Brenden Kumarasamy Mastering Your Talk

Building your business with Sara Troy and her guest Brenden Kumarasamy, on air from August 4th.

Brenden is the founder of MasterTalk, a YouTube channel he started to help the world master the art of public speaking and communication. He coaches purpose-driven entrepreneurs on how to master their message and share their ideas with the world.

Despite all the presentations I’ve given over my life, I still remember to this day how scared I was to post my first YouTube video.

I didn’t look like anything in my workshops or presentations, but I went ahead with this project for one reason.

Communicate to Inspire.

As an experienced speaker and facilitator, Brenden understands that audience members need to walk away captivated, and above all, inspired to master the art of communication. It should be seen as something to look forward to rather than a burden that must be overcome.

Impact.

A wise friend once told me that I couldn’t possibly coach every human being on Earth with the limited time I had in my life, so I needed to go on video to share my message with the world. I got over my fear, practiced 100’s of times on camera until I was finally able to say that I was “YouTube Ready”.

All’s to say that when you care about others and only want to add value, you’ll be able to overcome any fear/obstacle in the service of others.

BB 20-32 Deborah Laurel and PEER LEARNING for Entrepreneurs

Building your business with Sara Troy and her guest Deborah Laurel, on air from August 4th

A Benefit for Small Business Owners- Peer Learning Groups.
It’s lonely at the top. I know because I have a small business. Small business owners face a steep learning curve. For many, it may be the very first time they have run a business or supervised employees. If they have the time, resources and the access, they can take advantage of classes. But the need for learning doesn’t stop at the classroom door. On a daily basis, small
business owners face complex new challenges that they need to address- and they may be at a loss to know what to do.

It is also very isolating at the top. There may be a kitchen cabinet of close associates who can recommend policies and procedures, but the owner has to ultimately make the decisions.
Wouldn’t it be nice if there was a group of other non-competitive small business owners with whom to discuss issues, sound out options, and search out solutions? A support group where the members can speak openly and learn together?
It would have to be a group that required a brief time commitment and met no more than every other month. It would be helpful if that group followed a structured process with a focus on a timely issue. In other words, if it offered a just-in-time microlearning option to support small business owners as they navigate unknown waters.
The Peer Learning Institute has developed a Peer Learning Group program that is entirely self-directed. No facilitator is required. It targets a specific management topic.

There are two 90- minute sessions a month apart. In the intervening month, the members support each other as they put what they learned into practice. They then debrief in the next session, sharing their experience. If they like, they can continue with another topic. Bridge the isolation, make it less lonely to be a small business owner. Meet with peers in your
industry, share and learn from each other, create a supportive community, and become better at managing your business.

In college at The Johns Hopkins University, my freshmen roommate turned out to be suicidal.  This, combined with being at a top university with an enormous workload, led to me feeling enormous stress and pressure.  I sought out books and then teachers who could show me tools that could help me when I needed it most.
When I first started practicing mindfulness, I was 20 and studied with westerners who had spent years in Asia living as monks and studying with great masters.
I found something compelling about them as individuals because they had an intangible quality that I wanted for myself.  Maybe it was happiness, maybe it was a lightness of being even beyond the normal experiences.  Whatever it was, I sensed it and wanted it for myself.
This led me on a journey over the course of 25 years of seeking out the living Buddhist masters and learning from them directly rather than through intermediaries.
What I learned during that time, was that it was not necessary to filter the source teachings, but great benefit could reach more people if they were granted direct access.
The only problem was, I understood that most people would not go to Asia or have the chance to study directly with a teacher.
Fortunately, the system that they thought from I learned over the course of my 25 years and I am happy to share with you .
I have done my best to pass on the direct methods and inspiration, without the cultural or religious aspects.
I have applied these methods to my own life and career which has included high pressure jobs at global investment banks and wealth management firms.  I have also applied these same methods with much benefit in my relationships with my spouse and children.

It appeals to Type “A” personalities who are used to working in stressful jobs with a long list of responsibilities and who like being held accountable for their results with little free time to spare.

BB20-27 Brian Alexander Saving the Worlds Souls

Building Your Business with Sara Troy and her guest Brian Alexander, on air from June 30th

Brians says “This is why I do what I do”Self-awareness is such an odd thing.

Sanskrit has the phrase “Neti-Neti” which means “Not this, not that”. Most of us stumble through life finding ourselves (if at all) through a process of “negation” or learning what we are not through experience. This takes a very long time and is often far more painful than it has to be.

In business, this impedes growth, synergy, and momentum. It also contributes to employee disengagement and employee turnover

Rather than stumbling, falling and failing your way to self-awareness (although there is value in that too and it is how I became obsessed with it all in the first place) there are better ways. Less painful ways.

Brian Alexander spent 7 years as a high performer in the corporate world before taking the leap and following his purpose and passion within entrepreneurship.

Since then he has built a successful business and learned valuable life and leadership lessons. Brian has also logged over 1000 hours in business coaching in the past 4 years with clients, helping them with all things life, business and leadership.

Brian has been on a relentless quest to understand why people do what they do and equally important, why people don’t do what they say they will do.  One thing he realized in this search is that it is everyone’s right and obligation to the world to discover and express their own unique genius and share it with the world.

Having unlocked the code for himself and those around him, he has now made it his life’s work to share it with the world and help every man, woman and child express their own unique genius within.
