Their Story Matters with Sara Troy and her guest Barb Ashmead, on air from June 19th
Too often the trauma of military service leaves veterans with deep scars that make regular life challenging, if not impossible. At Vancouver Island Compassion Dogs, our goal is to offer our veterans and their families a reprieve from the suffering. VICD is a nonprofit organization that matches veterans suffering from a stress Injury like Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) with a compassion dog. Together, they embark on a unique 52-week service dog training program, that is as much about saving the person, as it is the dog.
Compassion dogs provide veterans with a living, breathing lifeline to the outside world. This powerful, primal bond between human and dog is a catalyst to peace, purpose and healing for our returning wounded.

Our Program
Serving Those Who Served.
Our service dog training program provides veterans with renewed purpose, confidence and unconditional support.
Our program begins by carefully matching veterans to their service dog. Broken into three distinct phases, veterans are led through twice-weekly training sessions over the course of one year. Guided by professional trainers, and a mental health clinical practitioner, the program is based on Integrated Victory Management, focused on rewards and accomplishments.
The goal of the program is the training and successful graduation of a fully certified Stress Injury Service and Support Dog (SI-SSD) that remains in the veteran’s care.
To ensure the program is available to everyone who needs it, all dog and travel-related expenses are covered by VICD. This includes dog food, veterinary treatments, obedience training, training equipment and gas cards to cover travel to class. VICD recognises the impact loved ones can have on a veteran’s recovery. We invite family and friends to attend our monthly support sessions to learn about the program and its methods.
The bond created through each team is life-altering. Our dogs learn to be emotionally tuned to their person and their unique triggers. They’re able to wake veterans from nightmares, ground them from a hyper-aroused state, and support them unconditionally through the stresses and trauma of everyday life.
Our Dogs
Our repurpose dogs have been donated from BC and Alberta Guide Dogs (BCGDS) and Pacific Assistance Dogs (PADS) Our rescue dogs have come from BCSPCA Alberni-Clayoquot (Port Alberni)
All our dogs have had been temperament tested, Have had their eyes, hips, and elbow certified.
They are spayed or neutered and vaccinated. Learn more about applying to our program

Sara Troy on Sara’s View of Life, on air from June 19th
Authentic Spirituality, what is that? is it something to do with being spiritual as opposed to doing spirituality? So many will say that they are spiritual, just like so many say their a person of God, but when it comes to action, they are far from what both represent.
Whatever you are, a person of a religion, a person of faith or a person who lives in the vibration of spirituality, we must own it, be it and not speak of one thing and do another, because of we then state that we are this or that, we need to stand by it and not conveniently forget when it suits us.
Understanding in our authenticity of spirituality requires us to not try and contain it, but flow with it as it is pure energy, pure love, and truly our truth that we need to know in our now. Spirituality is freedom, it is constantly moving, always in flow and cannot be boxed, shelved, walled in or controlled, for it is a divine energy that is constant in action.
Action in whatever your faith, must be true, we cannot bend our faith to a personal agenda, we cannot control it, we cannot use it against others and it cannot be hoarded for only a few. Spirituality is love, the caring kindness of loving humanity and showing compassion to one and all. WHEN YOU ARE IN DIVINE SPIRIT you flow, your growth, and you are being a person who acts and not just speaks.
So are you living in your authentic spirituality? are you walking the walk and showing caringness and kindness to all life? we are constantly being tested to our own authenticity, and we must rise up to a higher vibration in order to bring a more cohesive balance to our planet and to our humanity.

Ignite Your Heart and Souls with Sara Troy and her guest Sherry Morgan, on air from June 19th
Prayer, it is not only for the church but your divine connection to your God and can be done anytime from anywhere. Sherry shows us a way to have the art of prayer in our lives that comes from our hearts and souls and is not based on a religion.
Sometimes people ask me, “What is prayer? says Sherry
That happens to be a question I ask the participants who attend the primary program I teach, Exploring the Core Basis of Prayer. Everyone has a different answer, but there is a common thread – that prayer has something to do with communication. That’s where we begin our experiential exploration. People discover that prayer has more to do with conversation than with communication. Prayer is meant to be more like a dialogue than a one-way monologue.
Spirit exists in, around and throughout all things, including we humans of course. It is all the same spirit, but the manifestation of spirit into form gives each form particular characteristics, gifts and challenges. Unique to humans is our cognitive mind, which is a great gift to help us get along in life – but, mind is also a culprit when trying to connect with Spirit. More here on Reflections of prayer.
Exploring the Core Basis of Prayer is a 2-1/2 day workshop available to anyone over the age of 15. It is not important whether or not participants have a spiritual or religious background. The Core Basis of Prayer is the experience of connection and relationship we all share with aspects of divine/spirit in Nature, which is our birthright. When we experience that connection there remains no doubt that we are connected in Love. From the place of connection, healing occurs and guidance for our lives is accessed.
In this workshop, we will look at what it is that got in the way of our inherent experience of connection and use effective tools (discussion, storytelling, a particular meditation style, drum journeys, and sharing) that help put those artificial barriers aside.
This workshop is the first part of a larger program called,Exploring the Phenomenon of Prayer.
JOIN SARA AND SHERRY HERE FOR A DEEPER LOOK AT PRAYING.
Sherry Morgan had a special spiritual experience in 1982 and from that time experienced a growing sense of being guided. Initially, this guidance had a lot to do with personal growth work, a change in work from the corporate world to the holistic health world, and urges to spiritualize, which Sherry explored as well as she knew how to do. Then in 1993, those urges were “to go, leave, travel.” In 1995, Sherry set off in a Volkswagen Van for unknown destinations and unknown duration, knowing she would be led. She found her way to don David Wiley, now initiated as an elder Huichol shaman and an elder Náhuatl weather-working shaman. Don David works very closely with the elemental Fire, known by different names in a different culture, but in English usually by Grandfather Fire. Fire is the energy of our heart and the warmth and connectedness of all things.
Taught and guided by Fire, as well as by Ojibwa, Náhuatl and Huichol elders, Sherry came to learn of her calling to teach people about prayer. From the primary 2-1/2 day workshop, Exploring the Core Basis of Prayer, Sherry has developed other programs all designed to help people access healing and their own direct guidance for their lives.
Exploring the Core Basis of Prayer is a Lifeways offering of the international Sacred Fire Community. Sherry was the founding President of Sacred Fire Foundationin 2005 and is still an active volunteer, and she is a founding donor of the related organization, Blue Deer Center. In 1998 Sherry was initiated as a quiatlzques (one who works to establish a relationship with Weather for the benefit of her village) in the Náhuatl indigenous tradition of Mexico, and she is Matron for ceremonial work at a sacred mountain connected with Weather in Ontario, Canada. Sherry greets the weather at home in beautiful Victoria, BC. Learn more about Sherry’s offerings at
