Your health is your choice with Sara Troy and her guest Drew Deraney, on air from October 7th

“Why Caring for the Caregiver Isn’t Selfish, It’s Essential” and Health & Wellness

I believe that success happens when we find a better way and are able and willing to share it. I find a better way by challenging the status quo and thinking differently. Ultimately, what I bring to the table is a way to contribute and add value by having an impact on the lives of others.

AK25-38. Constanze Hawkins, Natures Poetry

An Authors Kiss with Sara troy and her guest Constanze Hawkins, on air from September 23rd

Inspirations is a collection of photographs, each accompanied by a poem depicting Constanze Hawkins’ love of the natural world. The poems capture the thoughts and wonder inspired by the photos. Constanze took all of the photographs herself, mostly near her Perth home on the grounds of the University of Western Australia. Even the photo of the peacock was taken at UWA, which has a few peacocks and peahens roaming freely in its gardens.
Inspirations offers an interesting, and at times thought-provoking, read as Constanze’s reverence for nature shines through in both image and verse.

Constanze discusses a wide range of themes found in her work. She often reflects on the challenges of handling loss, weaving emotion and experience into verse. She can also explore how the length of a poem influences the way readers engage with it, and how nature—its beauty, complexity, and timelessness—continues to inspire her writing. With her background in fashion, Constanze brings a unique perspective on how that world has shaped her creative voice. She also pairs her poetry with photography, offering a visual dimension that deepens the reader’s experience. Another recurring theme in her work is the lament for the loss of childhood, which she captures with poignancy and thought-provoking insight.

Constanze Hawkins was born in Stuttgart Germany. Her family migrated to Melbourne Australia when she was four. Hawkins studied fashion at the Melbourne College of Textiles. She completed her studies after her marriage, and her young family’s move to Perth, Western Australia. She also earned a Graduate Certificate of Design from the Curtin University of Technology and worked in fashion as a pattern maker and grader until retirement.

A recurring theme in the author’s first book, Eloise and Other Verses, is the inescapable human experience ‘Loss’. She became interested in loss when her father died, followed by the breakup of her marriage and then the death of her mother. Her experience of loss is that it is often dealt with alone — a theme that she explores in her poems. Inspirations is her second published book.

C23-38. Jennifer Mrozek Sukalo & Your SWAGGER

Choose Positive Living with Sara Troy and her guest Jennifer Mrozek Sukalo, on air from September 19th

We are first and foremost the leaders of our lives. However, most people are unaware of this and don’t know how to fully step into that leadership role or drive peak performance in all aspects of their lives. This leads to dissatisfaction, frustration, and mental health challenges. What we find are people who are struggling to survive life instead of truly thriving.

That’s where SWAGGER comes in. It’s not just a word, it’s a lifestyle and something that must be worked on and practiced daily. The practice of SWAGGER is designed to help people tap into and learn to use what they already have to become the leaders of their lives so they can be at their best, perform at their best, and live their best lives regardless of the obstacles they may face.

This is not the SWAGGER you’re likely thinking about. I’ve defined SWAGGER in a whole new way. It is an acronym that stands for Self-Worth, Appreciation for your strengths and limitations, Gratitude for your life experiences, Grounded in your core values, Empowered to overcome your self-limiting beliefs, and Renewed through your passion and purpose.

23-35. As Summer Ends

Sara’s View of Life with Sara Troy, on air from August 29th

As the last warm rays of summer start to mellow, they cast long shadows, heralding the approach of autumn. It’s always a bit melancholic when summer draws to an end, but fall, with its russet hues and crisp air, brings its own sense of purpose. It reminds me of turning pages in a book, which is apt because I’m about to dive deep into two significant writing projects.

The first is deeply personal – My Life’s Reflections. Penning down a lifetime of experiences, choices, moments of joy and sorrow is no small feat. It requires introspection, vulnerability, and sheer honesty. I need to encapsulate all that I’ve felt, seen, and done. While it’s daunting, I also believe it’s going to be therapeutic, allowing me to see patterns, learnings, and maybe even offer others some insights from my journey.

Then there’s the ‘Our Forgotten Children’ anthology. This is not merely a project; it embodies a movement. It’s a collection of tales from individuals who have actively worked with children, shedding light on the pressing need to transform the surroundings we nurture our children in. Each chapter is a testament—a voice, a story, an appeal, even an anthem of hope. These narratives highlight the inherent flaws in our systems and emphasize actionable ways to reform them, ensuring the well-being of both parents and children. By strengthening their bonds and fortifying their spirits, we can hope for a brighter future. Having Krystal Hille Publishing on board for the editing instills a sense of calm within me. Their esteemed reputation and meticulous approach guarantee that every tale will be treated with utmost respect and refinement. Yet, the road ahead is long – there’s the challenge of raising funds, streamlining coordination, and overseeing production. And the clock is ticking, with only four weeks at my disposal, to get all the chapters over to Krystal and raise that money to produce it.

The urgency isn’t just about the change in season; it’s also personal. The UK is calling me back. Family ties, with near death experiences with aging siblings, the need to see them is strong, as it has been 4 years since. The pandemic has been a formidable barrier, keeping me oceans apart from loved ones. This upcoming trip is about reconnection, healing, and maybe even finding some semblance of direction for the future in hand. But before that, the tasks at hand loom large. The next four weeks are going to be intense, filled with late-night writing sessions, brainstorming, and possibly copious amounts of coffee. But there’s a intense excitement too. The kind you feel when you’re on the brink of something profound. As the leaves turn golden and begin to fall, I’m reminded of the impermanence of it all and the importance of making every moment count.

Let the next chapter begin.

AK 23-24. Eme McAnam, Freefalling: A Novel of Senior Romance.

An Authors Kiss with Sara Troy and her guest Eme McAnam, on air from June 13th

Eme McAnam, author of Freefalling: A Novel of Senior Romance, the provocative debut novel exploring senior romance and the challenges of aging. In an interview, she can talk about the issues we face as an aging society, particularly when it comes to relationships, intimacy and romance. Eme will share with your listeners why we need more romantic literature for older readers and why she feels that while aging may have hurdles, it’s not a stop sign.

Dementia. Romance. Love. Aging. A powerful and provocative new senior literary romance novel redefines the notion of fulfillment in one’s Golden Years. Freefalling, by senior Eme McAnam, is a genre-changing story that’s sure to stir deep emotions.

“My friend suffered from Lewy Body dementia,” shares Eme, referring to the second most common type of progressive dementia after Alzheimer’s disease. “As I assisted him in his struggle, he let me see the turbulence in his mind. It was difficult to know his suffering and to comprehend his emotions. But I listened, as his caregiver and personal advocate. I disclose what I learned from him and others in this novel. Stories are a creative way for me to reconfigure life and share knowledge. While I was writing the senior romance, threads of his dementia crept into my characters, creating a more interesting story. A more real story.”

Eme McAnam has worn many hats: She certified fitness instructors, was a financial advisor, ran an assisted living facility, and even had a song on The Top 100 Country Billboard chart. But above all, she has lived life passionately and now has a critically-acclaimed debut novel that captures some of her life’s experiences in Freefalling, a poignant and provocative work of senior romance literary fiction.

Forty years ago, she was on the Billboard Country Top 100. She was singing for thousands of people at large events. Not long after that, life took her on a detour and she entered the world of more traditional business, where she certified fitness teachers around the country. Next, it was the financial services sector, where she became an advisor and professional speaker. Eme later ran an assisted living facility for a decade.

Restless to see more of the country, she sold her home of 37 years and traveled for a year before landing in her artist’s loft in Minneapolis. Eme hiked, painted, wrote, took pictures, and made new friends. It was a transformative experience.

Blessed with time and perspective, she resurfaced into her life as an artist and photographer. She writes about romance, life, and reality blended with life’s messy parts. Romance allows difficult stories to have hopeful endings. She has been interviewed on several podcasts, including Sexy Senior Romance the Read My Lips podcast.

Born and raised in New Ulm, Minnesota, she is one of nine children. Eager to have a chance at city life, she moved to Minneapolis to attend college. Now a grandmother, she resides in Minneapolis.

ABOUT THE BOOK
Charlotte, the owner and operator of a successful five-star hotel, has always put her work first. As she enters the autumn of her life, she realizes her dedication to her career has left a void in her heart – she never found true love. Through challenges and obstacles, Charlotte discovers that the Golden Years of her life can still hold happiness and fulfillment. Senior romance might come with its own set of hurdles, but ultimately, Charlotte experiences true contentment for the first time. Her greatest battle comes when she is diagnosed with dementia.
