What is it like living in America as a Black woman?
We sit down with April Mahoney to hear her lived experience and ask how we can each play a part in dismantling racism and prejudice against Black communities.

April Mahoney—hailed as San Diego’s Poet Laureate—is a native of Los Angeles, CA, and the founder of A Good Person Productions. She began writing poetry at the age of eight and has since been published in the International Library of Poetry Anthology. A celebrated BlogTalkRadio personality, April is also the winner of numerous radio and print ad contests. She is the author of three books: Small Statements That Mean a Lot, Utter Magic, and Rico the Seagull: Making the Best Out of a Mess.

Ms. Mahoney is a dynamic producer and entertainer, captivating sold-out audiences with her spoken word artistry at venues across New York, Los Angeles, and San Diego, earning rave reviews. She has also graced the stage as part of Carnival Cruise Line’s guest entertainment lineup. A former chapter president of Toastmasters International, April has delivered hundreds of motivational speeches and presentations. In addition to her writing, she actively supports several non-profit organizations and has launched numerous entrepreneurial ventures in her beloved city of San Diego, CA.
