Recovering the Whole of You with Dr Kiti Adderley and her guest  Dr Melissa Evens’

Lack of sleep is one of the biggest health issues today, without a good nights sleep we simply do not function well and it breaks down our body. Brain function, quality of life, depends on your sleep.

VIDEO

Sleep apnea is a serious sleeping disorder. It occurs when patients stop breathing while they’re sleeping. Sleep interruptions may occur infrequently or hundreds of times per night, which causes the brain to receive insufficient amounts of oxygen. Sleep apnea occurs in one of two manifestations. The airway becomes blocked during sleep when patients have obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). Central sleep apnea (CSA) is a disorder in which brain signals fail to control breathing while you sleep.

Snoring

Sleep apnea patients often first complain of snoring – or more accurately, their partners complain of it. Most often patients visit a doctor for professional advice after their sleep-deprived partner demands it. Constricted airways cause the patient to snore loudly, resulting in poor sleep quality for both the patient and their partner.

Do something that helps the planet, a person, or an animal. Go to the park and pick up a small bag of garbage, help your neighbour by bringing their empty garbage can up to their garage, tell a friend what you appreciate about them, and buy a stranger a coffee or a bottle of water. Give someone a hug. It’s easy and you will feel great once you are done!

T19-13 Dealing with Race Relations particularly in The South in America.

Transformations with Dianne Shaver and her guest Cleo Brown, ON AIR FROM MARCH 26TH

Purpose of my talks & my writing: Using history to create insight and introspection that leads to change.  My primary focus areas are race relations and voting.

What needs to change to make this a more equitable culture, especially in the South in the United States? This hugely impacts Charleston, South Carolina as the first port of entry for slaves taken from Africa.  Many have said that the healing must take place in Charleston for that very reason. How can we wake people up to prejudicial laws and cultural norms that exclude African Americans or view them as less than which is woven into the very fabric of the culture.

Things have been heating up in the United States in the last couple of years in the area of race relations and in the 2020 election, it will have a huge impact. There are many candidates of color declaring for the Democratic presidential nomination.

This interview with Cleo Brown highlights ways that the white culture still views non-whites and ways that we can make needed changes.  She sees education as one of the first things that have to happen.

VIDEO

Among her recommendations are movies, books and news sources: Cleo would recommend that everyone definitely watch the movie “Selma” and the Documentary “Eyes on the Prize”.

I would recommend: My book, “Witness to the Truth”, not because it is my book but because it works because people say that it makes them understand today much better (see a few reader comments attached). The story is not only laid out logically so that the reader can clearly understand how one incident in history is tied to the next period in history but because there is the main character, it feels more like you are just reading a good story and you learn valuable lessons quite by accident.  It explains not only what happened, but often why something happens.

Other books I’d recommend would be Coming of Age in Mississippi by Anne Moody & The Warmth of Other Suns by Isabel Wilkerson. I would also recommend using NPR for your news source in order to hear reporting that gives depth and a more balanced coverage by presenting different views.

Sara says ” From the very first show with Kechi she has stayed in my heart, and when I speak of strength and courage as an inspiration, Kechi’s name will be spoken, to see Kechi embrace her passion and not let her challenge get in the way is truly heartwarming inspiration, her journey to the finals on Americas Got Talent both times was truly earned for she is such a beautiful talent.

Kechi is a 29-year-old Nigerian-born young woman, currently living in Houston, Texas. She is an MBA student at the University of St. Thomas and self-taught singer. Kechi found her true voice after her accident- a plane crash that took the lives of 107 of 109 passengers in Nigeria in 2005. She resumed high school in 2009 and then went on to the University of St. Thomas, Houston, where graduated Summa Cum Laude in 2015 with a Bachelor’s in Economics. She began to sing and perform at her church, at Burn and Trauma fundraisers and galas, and at family events, sharing what she loved with those she wanted to inspire.
