Will you help me pick it up?”

With All My Might is her mesmerizing memoir of one of the first cross-cultural adoptions. I Can Find My Might is part self-help, a part practical resource for students, parents, and educators. Gabriella’s personal experience creates a boots-on-the-ground approach to bullying and self-acceptance that is nothing short of magical. My Path to Becoming a Rabbi and a Writer

I grew up in Providence, Rhode Island in a family of six: my mom and dad, me, my sister, Sarina, and my two brothers Ari and Rafi. All I knew growing up was that women could not be rabbis, at least not in the Orthodox synagogue where my grandfather served as the rabbi, not at the Orthodox elementary school I attended and not in the traditional Conservative synagogue where I belonged, and where my father was the rabbi.

History records the first woman rabbi to be Regina Jonas of East Berlin, Germany who was ordained in 1935. In 1972, when I was 10, Sally Priesand became the first woman rabbi ordained in America’s Reform movement. l knew nothing about these women until much later in my life, and though I had no childhood aspiration to become a rabbi, I did imitate my father on the rare Sabbath mornings I did not go to synagogue. I convened a congregation of my stuffed animals. I sat them in a circle on my bedroom floor, placed prayer books in front of their faces, kippot on some of their heads, and I became both rabbi and cantor, leading services, chanting traditional melodies, announcing pages and, I believe, delivering an occasional sermon

My mission in my work, writing, and life is to bring people together; to enable all people (especially children, elders, and those who feel marginalized in our society) to be heard; to guide people to find meaning in their lives and to live into this meaning; to question the wrongs we encounter and to have the courage to change them; to do our best to right the wrongs we ourselves create; and to appreciate how each one of us is a precious and necessary gift that contributes to the larger whole of our world.

C17-47 Getting Your Groove Back in 2018 and Beyond with Lynnis

Choose Positive Living with Sara Troy and ‘Wellness Journey’ host Lynnis Woods Mullins, on air November 21st ‘

Getting Your Groove Back in 2018 and Beyond ….Reprogram, Reenergize, Reconnect Your Mind, Body, Spirit, and Soul

We often go into a new season of life with hope and expectations for the better.  Whether it’s  ringing in a New Year with a new resolution or ushering in another birthday with expected new goals, we all have great expectations.  We look forward to reenergizing, reconnecting and in some cases reprograming ourselves in a new way of thinking and doing that gives us purpose and self -awareness.  Much like the character Stella did in the movie “When Stella Got Her Grove Back”, we want to get our “groove back”  .  We want the opportunity to start thriving again, to start walking in our purpose, to feel that sense of optimism and joy that should come with the start of anything “new”

The reality is that we never really lost our groove in the first place.  In many cases, our “groove” has been buried in the disappointments of the past, the feeling of being overwhelmed and not knowing what to do next.  Our “groove” gets buried under years of new resolutions that never happened and Birthday goals that didn’t get achieved.

But the good news is that it is not too late.  It is not too late to reprogram our thought process, re-energize our efforts, and reconnect with our quest to fulfill and in some case find our personal legend – our life purpose.

C 17-44b “Eat What You Want! Stop When You Want!”

Choose Positive Living with Sara Troy and her guest Sora Vernikoff, on air from October 31st

Today there are 45 million Americans who are planning to go on a diet or are on a diet and have no peace with food. These unhappy dieters might lose their weight in the short run but in reality, 97% of those folks will regain all their weight and more within the three years that follow their
dieted weight-loss.

The dieting industry is a 61 billion dollar weight-loss industry and so that’s what doctors push
it. The bottom line is that there a lot of money at stake in the treatment of obesity. To complicate
matters, Obesity has recently been classified as a disease by the American Medical Association and so that doctors hope that insurers will cover more treatments for obesity and so even though diets
ultimately don’t work that’s what they will prescribe.

Sora Vernikoff healed herself of compulsive eating over 20 years ago while she was a classroom educator in a Brooklyn inner-city school. One day Sora looked at her challenging 35 fourth graders kids and thought to herself, “Why do these kids listen to me and yet I can’t stop thinking about food or eating?”  Sora then stopped dieting, journaled all her eating experiences and let 25 pounds go which she has not regained to this day.

When Sora reached her no dieted weight loss goal, Sora knew that she could transfer her classroom “management” techniques to food “management” techniques and Sora’s Weight Loss “Management” Program was born. The Program as taught to hundreds of unhappy dieters lets you eat what you want, stop when you want and become forever thin and healthy and all without having to diet.

Sora’s Weight Loss “Management” Program as taught in “Eat What You Want! Stop When You Want! A No Diet, Weight-Loss Program” is in a workbook format and is made up of two very special eat and stop yourself techniques. First, there’s The “Green” Technique and then there’s The “Red” Technique. Now, The “Green” Technique lets you first decide how much of the food that you want is enough and then set aside the amount that is “too much” called your “Too” Much Marker.  Then you can “eat” the amount that you decided was “enough” amount but not your “Too” Much Marker.  This lets you know by Program definition that you have eaten and stopped yourself.  The “Red” Technique is similar to The “Green” Technique but is different in the way that it actually works.

There are also three additional no diet, weight-loss “management” strategies in this no diet program that supports The Program User by reducing the amount of time that it will take him to reach his non-dieted weight loss goal.

C 17-44a Beyond ADHD with Jeff Emmerson

Choose Positive Living with Sara Troy and her guest  Jeff Emmerson. ON AIR FROM October 31st

Beyond ADHD weaves Jeff Emmerson’s personal story of his ADHD diagnosis, exploring along the way the latest medical, scientific, and societal explanations and tools for managing and living with the condition. Including interviews with a number of experts at the forefront of next-generation ADHD diagnostics and treatment, he questions the cookie-cutter way ADHD is commonly diagnosed and treated. Suggesting that the list of symptoms often used to identify ADHD can be attributed to many other disorders and conditions, he explores how and why ADHD diagnoses have increased by 50% in the last ten years.

Emmerson advocates a different approach to ADHD, arguing that it should be a diagnosis of exclusion rather than the other way around and that we must look past the label, recognizing that individual symptoms vary and treatment plans should be better tailored to the individual. He examines mental and behavioural issues from all sides, including the possibility that nurturing—rather than trying to alter or suppress—the active, “360-degree” mind is a viable way for those diagnosed with ADHD to realize their gifts and lead purposeful lives.

Jeff Emmerson

From the depths of mental despair to becoming one of social media’s premier spokespeople for mental health issues, Jeff Emmerson is a veritable “Rocky” in the field. Jeff has written for and been interviewed by some of the world’s top radio hosts and online magazines regarding Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), including Everyday Health (featured on AOL Health) and Additudemag.

He also enjoys one of the world’s largest social media followings for a non-medical professional on the subject, with more than 1,000,000 Twitter followers (and counting) and a video blog (YouTube Channel) that includes more than 200 different postings on various aspects of ADHD. Many of the top medical experts in the field, as well as specialists in behavioural therapy, vision therapy and neuroscience regularly post and correspond with him as part of their collective goal: finding a path beyond today’s ADHD “epidemic.” Some also share their perspectives in Beyond ADHD.

Jeff is also empowering people across the world by teaching tools to break through behaviour and thought patterns that hold them back from deeper fulfilment and success in several areas of life. He has done the work in his own life and is a shining example of 51KHdUXB6PL._SX331_BO1,204,203,200_the human spirit in action. Signing his first book deal in May, 2016 was “just the beginning of my mission to help millions live better lives through tools and lessons that many of us never learned in school, myself included.”

Born and raised in Ontario, Canada, Jeff began speaking publicly to raise awareness of ADHD and mental health issues in 2011, following a suicide attempt and resulting ADHD diagnosis. (Two years earlier, he had lost his brother Ryan to suicide). In 2013, he took to social media channels and began blogging to reach an even larger audience — at which time he began reworking an old manuscript he had written about his life.

He is a passionate advocate for mental health, and fostering a deeper understanding beyond the accepted symptoms that have led to more than 30 million North Americans taking ADHD medication. He seeks to come up with solutions that return society to a place of compassion, humanity, community and empathy. He is represented by Dana Newman Literary Agency in Beverly Hills, California.
