TSM16/36 Loving Dogs for Autism Support

service-dog-training

Their Story Matters hosted by Sara Troy with guest Dean Audet airs from September 6th on.

Dean’s life has gone to the dogs but he truly gets to make a difference in people’s lives one dog at a time.

In dog years Dean Audet should be dead already! He grew up with many farming & ranching experiences and a love of dogs & horses. He learned about animals from many old cowboy heroes in his life. His fascination with dogs always had him playing with dogs, working with dogs and smelling like dogs. He very carefully watched how they functioned, how they were inter-dependant and how they communicated. He has been very fortunate on several occasions to observe wolves. It was during this time that the lights finally came on and the parallels were drawn. He has worked with many reputable trainers over the years that he has collected great knowledge and experience from. He later took university sociology and psychology classes which were also fascinating.

He has become the #1 Ranked Dog Psychology & Behaviour Modification Expert in Western Canada, travelling from Victoria to Winnipeg assisting people with dogs with behaviour issues.
It is this deep understanding of the Dog Psychology that has propelled him to train up many very balanced dogs over the years.
His definition of a “balanced” dog is basically bomb proof in any situation. His expectations of his dogs are calm and under control any where, with anyone, in any situation.
Government has similar expectations for a dog to pass the test to become a recognized service dog.
Dean is very proud of his wife who has been a Music Therapist for many years. She makes a huge difference in the world of the families that she works with, including children that have been diagnosed on the Autism spectrum.
The marriage of what the balanced dogs are capable of doing and the needs of people that require support dogs was a natural.
Ultimately these dogs are a social bridge. They are a comfort to the children and the parents.

He has tried many things but his life has gone to the dogs! Through his natural desire to help people and his passionate study of dogs, he now applies his own unique brand of “COWBOY LOGIC” and dog psychology to assist people with their dog’s behaviour issues. He has assisted 1000’s of families to solve their dog’s behaviour issues and lead a more happy, stress free, balanced life.

TSM16/33 Not For Sale: Finding Center in the Land of Crazy Horse

Their Story Matters with Sara Troy and her guest Kevin Hancock aired August 16-

warriors

WE HAVE NO VOICE UNTIL WE LISTEN TO OUR HEART

How a Businessman Lost His Voice and Then Found His Soul on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation… A Lesson in Following Your Heart-However Crazy It May Seem To You and Others.

Kevin Hancock was a highly successful businessman who took over his six-generation, family-owned lumber company that started in 1848, one of the oldest in America – and one of the largest in Maine – and steered it out of the financial strains of the recession. With hundreds of employees statewide, he had a tremendous responsibility on his shoulders. He was also a community leader, devoted husband, family man and coach for his daughters’ sports teams. He was the one who took care of everything and solved problems for everyone. And then, suddenly he lost the consistent and comfortable use of his voice to a relatively rare condition called spasmodic dysphonia.
kh_headshot_2016It became painful and difficult to push words out of his voice box. At nearly the same time, his mother-unbeknownst to him-gifted him a reading by a world renowned evolutionary astrologist. Her words and an article in National Geographic on the Sioux Nation with a photo of a modern day young Native American galloping across the prairie ignited something deep within him. He knew he was called to Indian country, but did not yet know why, but that became apparent in the four trips that he made within a year to the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation, and the awakening of his soul. Says Kevin in his remarkable award-winning new book Not For Sale: Finding Center in the Land of Crazy Horse, “Within me lived a powerful impulse to take charge and protect my tribe, whenever it came under duress. I felt a strong pull to save everyone, and I took on all the work that went with that instinct. Worse, I internalized that responsibility to the point where it consumed me in ways I could not see. The price I paid for that approach was that I lost myself to both my role and my local circumstances. I had become consumed in protecting others. I had not yet learned that most everyone is capable of protecting themselves. I had not yet learned to share power. I had not yet learned to serve myself.” It is this and more that he discovers on this mystical and fascinating journey-a vision quest for a visionary. Kevin captivates with his story telling. He shares his growing connection and affection for the long-suffering, but resilient Lakota people-and what they teach him; his increasing awareness of human relationships to land, animals, nature and spirit; and how he unyoked himself from his sole leadership role to create shared responsibility that resulted in record profits for his company and a feature in the NY Times showcasing his new leadership model.

41n+OV-tYaLMost of all, he reveals the inner workings of deep seeking that opened his eyes, his heart and his mind. With photographs that touchingly illustrate his journey, provides a realistic look at life on the Rez, and illuminates his growing awareness of interconnectedness, Hancock evokes messages for us all. He shows us a path so beautifully trod by the indigenous Americans that brings us into harmony with ourselves, our spirit and the world around us. Kevin will enlighten your listeners on what he discovered: We all come from a tribe, and while the pull of the past is strong, the soul is here to individuate. Those who hold the power often overreach and go too far, not realizing that leadership in the new Aquarian Age is about doing less, not more. Business is not living, and personal growth lies in looking inward, not outward. The boundaries that have been set to divide people are not real. In the end, we’re all one tribe.

TSM16/30 A Mother’s View of an Autistic Daughter’s Triumph

Their STORY MATTERS with Sara Troy and her guests Janet and Jenny  Walmsley airs July 26th-August 1st

11665529_1029390040404775_5250457399171527604_n

I want to share Jenny’s life journey with Autism as she is living proof and a role model that these individuals are a huge asset and blessing to society and to us individually. There is still a stigma with Autism and the world needs to look at it  in a entirely different way.

05040_Story_Jenny001Jenny  was born in Yellowknife, but lived the majority of her life in Vernon, British Columbia. Jenny graduated Grade 12 with Honors and Scholarships and then moved right after High School to Vancouver to attend Vancouver Film School for Animation and is now a 2D Classical and 3D Digital Character Design Animator. Jenny recently just finished working on a film for Super Channel with her animation and about to start on another film. Jenny also published her novel of a Trilogy in May 2015 and right from pre order was an Amazon and Canadian Best Seller. She is currently working on the second novel for the Trilogy. Despite being diagnosed with very low functioning Autism at 3 years old, Jenny has blossomed and always remained focused on pursuing her dreams and is passionate in inspiring others to do the same. She has just turned 23 this month, 95 % out of her Autism and is living proof and a role model to show others that Autism is not a Death Sentence but a rich fulfilled Life Sentence.

Jenny’s animation.

Janet Walmsley

0214-Janet Wamsley564-8x10PrintJanet Walmsley is a born and raised Manitoban, where she lived 20 years of her life and the who has also lived in Vernon, BC, Yellowknife, NWT and Germany. Janet was a Dental Assistant & Hygienist for 27 years and Head Marketer for a Canadian Company for 14 years.  She now lives in Vancouver, BC Canada and along with being a Mother to Jenny and her son Chris, Janet has an active professional career in acting, with her theater career spanning decades and been in Film, TV, Commercials, Voice Overs and much more, for the past 6 years. Recently Janet was nominated for Best Supporting Actress for a Comedy at the 6th Annual Indie Awards in Los Angles and was submitted for Leo Award nomination here in BC. In June of 2016, Janet was awarded the 2016 Unlimited Woman of Creativity in Victoria, BC. When Jenny was first diagnosed with Autism it has been Janet’s mission to support Jenny 110% and raise Autism awareness and bring out the positive of Autism and not the usual stigma with it. Janet has and does work tirelessly in every avenue to provide all the support and opportunities for her daughter and be her constant rock, her voice and sounding board. Even going out of Canada to research Autism, find more support and further her knowledge about caring for her daughter. Even though diagnosed with Breast Cancer in July of 2014, Janet published her own book, The Autistic Author and Animator, A Mother’s View of a Daughter’s Triumph, as Janet and Jenny wanted to publish their books at the same time and do book events and talks together. It is also a best seller and Jenny’s story is reaching out and touching the hearts of many people. Her story is not only to reach out to the Autistic community, but to everyone.
