P15/15b A Warrior’s Faith in Life

Positive Living Vibrations hosted by Sara Troy with guest Robert Vera aired from April 14th on.

THE COMPANION STORY TO  “AMERICAN SNIPER” ABOUT NAVY SEAL RYAN “BIGGLES” JOB

images ryan job

An exhilarating story of a young Navy SEAL whose relentless faith transformed his life and inspired everyone who knew his courageous story.

Faith, duty, the belief you will come home and gratitude for life are the lessons here in Ryan Job’s story.

In A Warrior’s Faith, Ryan Job’s close friend, Robert Vera, recounts how the highly decorated Navy SEAL’s unstoppable sense of humour, positive attitude, and fierce determination helped him survive after being shot in the face by an enemy sniper on a roof in Ramadi, Iraq.

11102712_939058956133856_5414174103277695510_nThough blinded, the irrepressible Job recovered from his wounds and began facing a new set of obstacles with his characteristic humor and resolve. He married the girl of his dreams, hunted elk, climbed Mt. Rainier, graduated college with honours, influenced countless people around him, and was looking forward to being a father—before his life was tragically cut short by a hospital medical error.

Vera’s raw, often funny, and heartfelt account of his friend’s life offers readers a way to find hope in the middle of life’s raging storms.

The biggest film in America has a companion story you must know. “American Sniper” follows the life of Navy SEAL Chris Kyle, the most deadly sniper in American history and his Navy SEAL Team 3 brothers. What people don’t know is that Chris risked his life to save Ryan’s.

The movie version of “American Sniper” was adapted from Kyle’s New York Times #1 best selling book, which was dedicated to Kyle’s NAVY Seal teammate and close friend Ryan “Biggles” Job (pronounced Jobe), a central character in both the book and film. Hollywood actor Jake McDorman portrayed Ryan Job in the film version, while “American Sniper” co-producer Bradley Cooper plays Kyle, although it captures the impact of their story, it is not entirely accurate.

Robert Vera, who was also friendly with Chris Kyle, says that the runaway success of the film “American Sniper” and seeing his friends portrayed on the silver screen has taken him by surprise. “The movie was a little eerie for me, it was like seeing a ghost because Jake McDorman actually looked and sounded a lot like Ryan”.

Jake Mcdorman As Biggles.

Jake Mcdorman As Biggles.

In the movie, Ryan Job (or “Biggles,” played by Jake McDorman) is shot in the head and blinded by Syrian sniper Mustafa but survives long enough to propose to his girlfriend. He dies soon after, and that death defines Kyle’s fourth tour in Iraq and spurs him to seek revenge against Mustafa. In reality, according to Kyle’s memoir, the Navy discharged Biggles from service following his injury. The ex-SEAL attended college, began a career, and got married before dying following facial reconstruction surgery while his wife was pregnant with their first child.*

Chris Kyle and Ryan Job were SEAL teammates on SEAL Team 3. The two were on a rooftop in Ramadi, Iraq when Job was shot in the face and gravely wounded by an enemy sniper. Job miraculously survived and was saved by Chris who came to his rescue but was rendered permanently blind in the incident, captured in one of the movie’s most harrowing sequences.

MEET the AUTHOR WHO ATTENDED THE FUNERALS OF BOTH CHRIS KYLE AND RYAN “BIGGLES” JOB, Robert Vera.

Robert Vera, is the author of A Warrior’s Faith: Navy SEAL Ryan Job, a Life-Changing Firefight, and the Belief That Transformed His Life.

Ryan Job’s real life story is more complex, more inspiring and in some ways even more tragic than Chris Kyle’s, says Vera, who pays tribute to his fallen friend in a new book; “A Warrior’s Faith: Navy SEAL Ryan Job, a Life-Changing Firefight, and the Belief That Transformed His Life” “I hope that readers will come away as inspired by Ryan’s courage, determination and faith, as I was,” Vera said.

Shortly after returning stateside for facial reconstructive surgery and rehabilitation, Ryan Job settled with his wife in Scottsdale, where he attended Scottsdale Bible Church, became involved in wounded veteran’s causes and befriended Robert Vera.  Vera, a former U.S. Senate aide on military affairs, trained with Ryan in the hills around Phoenix for Job’s blind hike to the summit of Mt. Rainier.  At 14, 411 feet Mt. Rainier is one the most challenging and deadliest peaks in America. Also, an avid hunter, the totally blind former SEAL also managed to successfully hunt a massive 980-pound bull elk. Vera and Job were close friends and trained together to race Ironman triathlons. Ryan earned his college degree with honours and served as a spokesman for disabled veterans organization called “Camps for Patriots” to regain a purpose in life.  camppatriot.org where Vera is heavily involved today.

Rainier and his elk hunting adventure, all while blind, his unstoppable spirit and unshakable faith, until his tragic death in 2009. It is available now, and Vera is available for book signings and speaking engagements.

Robert Vera has enjoyed a twenty-year career in the banking industry. In 2006 he took a leap of faith to follow his dream to become an entrepreneur. Robert serves on a number of non-profit boards and as a mentor to returning veterans. He earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science from Boston College. He is married with two children and lives in Phoenix, Arizona. His life has been forever changed by knowing and telling Ryans story and example of true faith and living in knowingness.

I want to leave a legacy, to bring 350 million women from around the world in one voice, to fight for those without a voice.

Harriet’s organisation inspired me to create this channel for the very purpose of sharing the stories of those in growth and those who invest in humanity. We will be speaking about the need to tell these stories, why it empowers other women into finding their courage to tell their own story, and we will also look to what Harriet’s organisation does to help these women find liberty, dignity and meaningful purpose in their lives.

This is the first of such interviews embracing the work of those who care about humanity and wish to unite communities. Humanitarian groups, we wish to embrace what you are doing in helping humanity, please come share your passion of what your organisation is doing to help others find their liberty, dignity and personal freedom to embrace their possibilities. We wish to tell your story as it very much matters.

P14/44b The Old and Forgotten a Disposable Generation

Their Story Matters and on Positive Living Vibrations with Sara Troy and her guest Dr Don Lester. Originally Aired November 4th 2014

imagesSENIORSWe seem to throw away anything old today, we don’t mend repair revive or review what is old, only embrace what is new. This sadly is true of our older generation, once they do not serve society out they go into a home to hurry up and die.

This has to stop, it is disgraceful and speaks to our today’s society in a bad way. The aged have earned their right to a dignified retirement and life exit and we cannot turn our heads any more to the way we treat those who paved the way for us.  Before you think of a retirement home listen in here and let us give dignity safety and respectful care to those who paved the way for us.

me2-lrgDONDr. Don Lester PhD
Holistic Life Counsellor

Holds a certificate in seniors counselling from the Vancouver College of Counsellor Training. Which began his interest in helping seniors with their mental health issues. After correlating the research on seniors mental health issues by the Canadian Coalition for Seniors Mental Health and the Canadian Mental Health Society he became determined to make a difference for seniors everywhere.
Having personal experience with his mother-in-laws father going from independent living to fully assisted living at the age of 90 he became familiar with the plight of seniors as they went through the current system suffering in silence with anxiety and depression.
As the director of the senior’s counsellors association, he strives to raise awareness that seniors deserve respect and dignity where ever and whenever he can. Working to get seniors counselling whenever possible, allowing them to live happily, productively well into late life.

S15/10 “Uniquely Able” Living with Spina Bifida

Their Story Matters with Sara Troy and her guest Sarah Wilson originally aired in March

download (1)Spina bifida is part of a group of birth defects called neural tube defects. The neural tube is the embryonic structure that eventually develops into the baby’s brain and spinal cord and the tissues that enclose them.

Normally, the neural tube forms early in the pregnancy and closes by the 28th day after conception. In babies with spina bifida, a portion of the neural tube fails to develop or close properly, causing defects in the spinal cord and in the bones of the spine.

Spina bifida occurs in various forms of severity. When treatment for spina bifida is necessary, it’s done surgically, although such treatment doesn’t always completely resolve the problem.

11016305_10153156507243746_1864992490_nSarah Wilson is the creator and visionary behind the ( Reinvent and Revive) R & R Style Academy. She is a graduate of the Social Service Worker Program at Algonquin College in Ottawa, Canada and is dedicated to helping women wake up in their own inner authority and show up expressing their individual story through their individual style.

Starting as an entrepreneur in June 2011 Sarah has worked hard to mould and craft herself and her brand as the authority of what she calls “storytelling through style”. She says, “I have to admit the first two years or so was about building me as much as I was working on the business, but now it’s time for R & R Style Academy to shine! Sarah strives to bring to life her end game vision of a one of a kind Lifestyle and Personal Growth Concierge Service and having many accolades Sarah says, “I am my client”. She’s the go-to woman when you want to connect to and power up your true authentic self and make the transition from feeling unknown to unstoppable in your life!

Sarah knows what it’s like to live a life of adversity being born with Spina Bifida and is here to spread her message that no matter what you have been through in your life you are here for a reason and you can shine through it!! Sarah has beat the odds since birth and has a unique perspective being born with a disability; she knows what it’s like to live cheque to cheque month to month living on Government assistance but even so she knew there was something bigger and better out there, this is something she says, “On some level I’ve always known and I’ve always wanted”. And even being a first-time business owner with no business background she says, I’ve always been stubborn and been able to make it through, and I’m determined to make this happen”.

Sarah relates to women who want to become their authentic self after feeling devalued or like you have to be someone you aren’t to please others and she is committed to being a change agent for women start up entrepreneurs who are wanting to make the move from Unknown to Unstoppable; find the connection between their inner self, their message & their unique style. Sarah has struggled to find her voice and knows what it’s like to not see your own potential because you feel others in your life don’t either, or to sell yourself short and settle because you feel this is all you deserve or this is as good as it gets. She understands that no one is perfect but at the end of the day just being you in an authentic way is good enough. You don’t have to live up to other people’s standards; instead, start to set a personal standard for yourself.

Sarah developed her own terminology which is something she has taken with her on her journey. She developed the term, “Uniquely Able” as opposed to disabled because she has never considered herself as having a disability she says, “I just do some things differently.” She developed this term because it’s her view that there are things that we all can’t do or don’t do well but it doesn’t mean we are different, it doesn’t mean we are “disabled” and it certainly doesn’t mean we are inadequate in any way, she says, “ it’s what makes us unique and individual.” She knows what it’s like to be looked at as “different” and she knows what it’s like to struggle with self-image issues and think you’re not good enough which leaves you wondering if you ever will be and she knows what it’s like to have others not accept you for who you are and give you a chance because they feel there is something wrong with you. She knows the feeling when others look at you and can’t see past the things you can’t change. She knows what it’s like when you feel you can’t get through the day because you think you’re not worth it and you feel others think the same. Sarah has been there, is able to relate and is committed to helping you live the life you want by becoming the women you are and deserve to be, because you can!

She has made it her bigger mission to create a society that looks past what each other can’t do to see that we are all unique and have “unique abilities”. And to break it down a bit Sarah wants to help women rise through their struggles and see their potential to create their path authentically or on their own terms. “I help women find the tools to feel empowered to be who they were truly meant to be authentically and make no excuses for it, and I teach women that their struggles are opportunities.” She says.

I am uniquely qualified to understand what it takes to create the movement that is deep within no matter what the odds seem to like to step by step achieve your goals in life and go through the personal growth necessary to reach your best self because I have struggled my whole life to find people that I TRULY connected with and that really saw and appreciated me for who I am. It wasn’t until I started not to be so wrapped up in what others thought of me and started to focus on what I thought of myself that things really started to change.

Our setbacks, struggles and heartbreaks are a part of us, they don’t make us who we are and so we help women rise through their struggles to stand in their own power as they woman they were meant to be.”Instead of judgement why not be curios.” Anonymous

“There are two types of people in the world; those who know they can and those who think they can’t, which side of the fence are you on” – Sarah Wilson

And my new favourite quote from T.D. Jakes “What do people get when they get you”? This to me relates so well to conveying our story and how people perceive us both inside and out.

Sarah’s accolades include becoming a:

  • Becoming an ambassador for Runway of Dreams
  • Co author in Holistic Fashionista Memoirs: Tales of Adversity, Perseverance, and Success and What’s Your Vision? A Guide For Designing The Life Of Your Dreams With Vision Boards
  • She founded and developed her first telesummit in November 2012; the Authentically You Telesummit
  • She has spoken at numerous events and run her very own workshop as well, “Labels are for Products Not People” for the Earn Conference with United Way Ottawa
  • She has been published in Holistic Fashionista Magazine as well at the Ottawa Citizen Newspaper
  • She was interviewed for the Fall edition of Physio Therapy Magazine
  • She had a televised interview with AMI (Accessible Media Inc.)
  • She has had the pleasure of being invited to be a guest on Dawn Bournand’s radio show Fabulously Successful Radio
  • Created and founded her very first radio show Life Without Limits in May of 2014 and;
  • She has been a guest blogger for many different types or lifestyle blog

Let’s face it, we all have things we feel we can’t do or we don’t do well but its Sarah’s thought that to discover who you truly are and what you’re really made of you need to use your struggles and things you’ve overcome in your life to your advantage and not try to work against them. “I believe everything happens for a reason and it’s very true what they say; God doesn’t give us more than he thinks we can handle.” And in using the term uniquely able, it sets the tone that everyone has things they can’t do so instead let’s focus on what we can. R & R Style Academy is here to help you see what you have to offer and that you are truly unique and have so much to share in your own way.

S15/09 The Love Foundation Vision

Their Story Matters introduces Harold W. Becker hosted by Sara Troy aired March 3rd

The Love Foundation

LOVE TRULY MAKES THE WORLD GO ROUND ALL WE NEED IS LOVE TO MAKE LIFE HAPPEN

409625_446985391988334_1068951406_nThe Love Foundation, Inc. is a nonprofit organization with the mission of inspiring people to love unconditionally. Our vision is to assist people by building a practical foundation and understanding of unconditional love within individuals and society as a whole. Established in 2000, we have become an international leading resource for sharing the awareness of unconditional love.

As truth can be found in all aspects of life, The Love Foundation is designed to be an open organization built on the universal recognition of unconditional love. As such, we are not affiliated with any religious creed or perspective. Our focus is on the personal appreciation and pragmatic experience of unconditional love. Through education, research, and charity, we strive to share in this timeless understanding and expand our individual and collective consciousness.

1454982_502210363211644_962971775_nIt may be easy to look around our world today and see the appearance of chaos, difficulty and strife. Yet, when we come from an open heart, we can also see our opportunity to love all things into balance, joy, harmony and peace. This planet does not need more visions of desperation, separation, fear, doubt, and hate – it requires an abundance of love, especially unconditional love, to heal and restore the beauty contained in every moment. This becomes the easier path once we take the first step and begin to share our love.

When we bring unconditional love back into our personal, professional, community and family lives, we begin the journey of restoring wholeness and happiness to our planetary adventure. Of course it takes determined effort on our part as the old, outmoded and limited ways of being are quick to return in our mind. However, this effort to love is rewarded with a new perspective on everything and all life benefits as a result.

Here at The Love Foundation, whether through Global Love Day each May 1st, our annual Art, Essay and Poetry Invitational, Love Ambassador designations, or our newer programs, Love Begins With Me film project and All Nations Love/America Loves, each of these opportunities are simply ways to keep the understanding of love fresh in our collective hearts and minds.

We started this nonprofit organization in 2000 as a way to inspire and remind people of the simple, practical power of loving unconditionally. In just these few years, we have witnessed a growing worldwide momentum embracing this opportunity to bring the awareness of unconditional love back into our daily lives. We look forward to expanding this dialogue and encourage you to walk this journey of unconditional love in your part of the world.
