26-40. Your Vote, Your Voice, Your Accountability

Sara’s View of Life, with Sara Troy. On air from October 6th

“Awakening Into Action: What Are We Choosing?”

When we give someone our vote, what are we entrusting them with? Our communities, our well-being, and the decisions that shape our future. In this episode, Sara Troy speaks about the responsibility of voting with awareness and choosing leaders whose actions demonstrate the care and integrity they promise.

Looking at elections in Canada, the American midterms, and leadership within our everyday communities, Sara asks us to look beyond advertising, polished speeches, and familiar party loyalties. Who has a record of service? Who understands the struggles people face? Whose actions match their words? And who is seeking office to serve others rather than advance their own wealth, status, or power?

Sara shares her views on political accountability, corruption, lobbying, and the widening distance between those who hold wealth and those struggling to meet basic needs. She calls for greater attention to people left behind—those facing homelessness, hunger, and barriers to healthcare, education, and secure housing. Leadership, she argues, should be measured by how it improves the lives of the people it represents.

This conversation also reaches beyond politics. Whether we are choosing a school representative, endorsing someone in business, supporting a community leader, or voting in a talent competition, are we rewarding popularity or recognising ability? Sara encourages us to support people who demonstrate commitment, welcome other voices, listen carefully, and adapt when circumstances call for change.

Voting is only one part of participation. We must continue asking questions, paying attention, and holding our representatives accountable after an election. Disappointment and frustration can leave us feeling powerless, but withdrawing gives us less opportunity to influence what happens next.

This is a passionate call to take our choices seriously, recognise authentic service, and remember the human lives behind political decisions. If we want change, we must participate in creating it—with informed votes, clear expectations, and the courage to keep speaking up.

With the U.S. midterms approaching, current reporting highlights concerns about affordability, healthcare, and election security. Those give you a starting point for exploring how our choices affect everyday lives. apnews.com
