Kaare Long is a single mom to two beautiful daughters who are growing up quickly. She is the Creative Director of her own Business, a Cue Creative Consulting, an online digital communications agency and the executive director and founder of the Social Movement ‘#sayhitoastranger’ which has become a popular event in the City of Vancouver, B.C. and has recently been nominated for the ‘Power of Peace’ award from the YMCA. Kaare is also a professional performer—musician, actor and vocalist. Creativity is her driving force, along with Community and Connection. She believes that we can do so much more working together than we can in competition to each other. Kaare mentors younger cohorts and believes that sharing what she has learned with vulnerability and authenticity is the best way to have it serve a deeper purpose. “I’ve struggled along the way, but we all do. And if we can understand early in our lives that failure is the most important part of our growing up, then perhaps we might enjoy it a bit more. How much energy and money do we lose in our current homes? way too much to count. With so much innovation out there we do not need to keep building the same old money pit of homes that we have been building. It is time to not only save our own money, but to save our planetary energy resources, or we are facing a very hard tomorrow. When we know that there is something better, it is easier to adapt, adopt and redirect to a home that saves on so many levels. 
Passive House Standard
The passive house standard was developed in Germany about 40 years ago. The goal was to create a comfortable home that was both friendly to the environment and efficient to operate. The standard calls for two main measurable outcomes: an airtight structure of no more than .6 air changes per hour at 50 pascals of pressure; and heating and cooling cost not to exceed 15kw per meter squared. To put this into perspective, the way we build houses today, the average house leaks at a rate of 4 to 6 air changes per hour and costs about 150kw per meter squared. That is a full order of magnitude apart we had a long way to go.
It turns out the way we have been building houses is the wrong way and we can easily build to this standard, gaining a ten times advantage, by applying just a few simple principles. Eliminate thermal bridges, use only tight sealing windows and doors, reduce northern exposed glazing, maximize solar gain in the winter and minimize in the summer, an pay attention to the details.

The revolutionary energy performance of Passive House buildings demands a rigorous and scientific approach to design and construction. Energy performance savings of 80 – 90% (compared to conventional Canadian construction) do not happen by chance.

While Passive House is certainly the world’s most ambitious and verified energy-efficient building standard, most people invest in this type of construction for the higher quality of living.

The many benefits of Passive House construction over regular Canadian Building Code construction include:

  • Much better indoor air quality – comfortable humidity levels, low CO2 levels because of comfort ventilation, with optimum ventilation flowrates calculated for each room
  • Increased thermal comfort – the highest level of interior comfort of any building, with all surfaces equally warm (including the windows), no drafts (ever), no setbacks, no temperature swings
  • Superior sound insulation – extraordinary airtightness levels, triple-pane glass and thick insulation also provide superior sound insulation – Passive Houses are very quiet indoors!
  • Almost-unbelievable energy efficiency – 80-90% better than standard construction, with simply no need for a conventional heating system
  • More durable –  detailed and advanced design, better building components, proven building science
  • Almost no maintenance – very simple mechanical systems compared to normal construction
  • Resilient – the most resilient construction standard anywhere, which maintains livable conditions even during power or fuel outages, relies very little on any mechanical systems
  • Sustainable – because of very low energy consumption and durable construction
  • Versatile – Passive Houses can be built in any climate zone and applied to any building type, utilizing a wide variety of building materials and methods
  • Internationally embraced – already over 40,000 units in more than 35 different countries … with numbers growing rapidly from China to Abu Dhabi to Alaska.

Rob Lyon: Growing up as the son of a baker I could think of nothing more in life than going to work each day and eating cakes and cookies but my real love I discovered in high school was physics. I went to university to study physics but switched to computer science and fell in love all over again. Then I discovered the military. What a game changer that was. I joined the Navy as a junior officer and started sailing the seven seas. Soon I was a weapons officer and that meant missiles. I put my computer science background to work and for the next twenty years programmed missile control systems, I was a rocket scientist! It’s all about the software, the chemistry hasn’t changed in 40 years. I also got married, had 5 children, and completed a Masters Degree in Digital Technologies.
I am a passionate person who has always stayed busy. I loved my children and became a scoutmaster, volunteering for 20 years serving in Cubs, Scouts, and Ventures. About 15 years ago I started building houses. About  3 years ago I started studying building science and 1 year ago I learned about the Passive House standard; I had a new passion.
So now as I embark on my final?? career, I will build my first passive house for my wife and I and look forward to sharing that knowledge and experience through my company Pacific Passive House. I am 57.

18-13 Good Days Bad Days call it what it is.

Sara Troy on Sara’s VIEW OF LIFE SHOW, on air March 27th

It is ok to have a bad day, we can not deny it or ignore it, it is what it is. This does not mean your going backwards or you have failed at positive Living, it just means, your having  bad day. So do not deny it, but embrace it, and call it what it is without trepidation.

I know there is always someone out there saying, plough through it, you can overcome, just do it, but if you can’t you can’t and that is ok. The worst thing is not to listen to your body, your mind may chastise you, your body may try and fool you, but when you know you, you can not fool you.

There is always a reason for things, and sometimes a no reason is that something. I have health issues, they show me how far I can go in what I do, and if I do not listen then I am reminded. You see my body knows best, it knows when it is over doing it, it knows how far it can gho. My job is to listen, not fight with it, not shout and demand of it, but to trust it, for it knows what I need more than I do.

Now on a good day, I can fly, I am filled with abundant energy and it looks to the world that I can do anything, in that moment, maybe I can but the next, no, I am reminded of my limitations and that is ok. You see my good days are measured by how energetic and accomplished I am, but it can be those bad days that my art comes out, my creativity. Yes it comes out on the good days, but differently. I can even on a bad day still do my shows, for they energies me and fulfil my purpose. On a good day I can do more longer and I can take that creativity and turn it into productivity.

Some would say because it is raining it is a bad day, some would say a great day because the rain is watering our very substance. We see good and bad according to our needs, what it serving us, how it makes us feel. So your good day is someone else bad and so on and as is life.

It is the balance of life, the Yin and Yang, the good and the bad, the bad ain’t all bad and the good is not always good, but the balance is always easy to live with. So the key here, is to know you from the inside out. Are you denying yourself because you’re fooling yourself that you can’t do it, or can you not do it, because it is time to do it, or your not meant to right now. Are you measuring all your other days just by the good ones and demanding they should all be like that? then you truly are fooling yourself. There has to be both good and bad, but how bad and how good is up to you and in how you listen to yourself within. Pay attention to the signs.

So next time you have a bad day, look in and ask your body what it needs from you, rest? nurturing, sleep, or just time to just be. When that good day is here, take advantage of it and explore do, be and enjoy, DON’T SWEAT IT, IT IS LIFE, SLOW FAST, GOOD BAD, UP DOWN, IT IS JUST HOW LIFE WORKS, GO WITH THE FLOW.

Stefania Magidson was born in Romania and in 1983 immigrated with her family to the United States.  She received a BS in Health Education and a Master’s in Applied Spiritual Psychology. In 2002, she founded Blue Heron Foundation, one of the largest non-profit organizations in the Romanian diaspora. To date, the organization has raised more than $2,000,000, has awarded 300+ college scholarships and has touched the lives of at least 2,900 children.
Stefania is a supporter of the UCLA Graduate School of Education, The Everychild Foundation and the Making Waves Romanian Film Festival; she serves on the Board of Advisors of the Wende Museum, is the Chair of the Romanian Film Committee of the South-East European Film Festival, member of the advisory board of the Roma People’s Project at the Hayman Center for Humanities at Columbia University and Co-Chair of the Parents’ Council at Tisch School of the Arts. And she is, of course, the author Searching for the White Magician. Stefania lives in Los Angeles with her husband and their two sons.

Christina says “Awareness can be felt, but not explained using words… here we go again trying to make things super complex!”

A deep breath, feeling the water beading on the skin as you take a hot shower, smelling that fresh cut grass smell, or walking hand in hand with a loved one and sharing in the preciousness of a silent stillness.. we can see how all of these “openings” for awareness are all around us, tugging at us to get out of our heads and come down into the heart. Come back to real-ness and Now-ness with us so that you can realize you never can lose awareness, you can only get distracted and forget who you are- in other words, unconscious.

You already ARE awareness, and thank goodness that this is the case– no need to search for enlightenment or “try” to chase the Now. You are already home, you are already enlightened!
Sara says” Awareness is our soul speaking to us, our heart connecting to what is and our spirit feeling what needs to be done. When we step into awareness we feel the knowledge we seek. So many of us miss the signs along the way that is trying to make us aware of our directions. Let us tune in, hear both in and out and become aware of what the universe is guiding us to know.”

Christina Hill is a renowned psychic first person channeler who climbed the ladder of her own spiritual ascension through deep human egoic suffering and trauma- or as she calls it- moving from darkness into Light. Athella shares with us that there are many dimensions and that the universe is like a tall building (12 floors), where every floor is a dimension and every dimension is a different reality. Humans are on the 3rd floor and Athella is on the 12th floor. Athella talks to people through Christina’s body using a technique known as channelling.
