Their Story Matters with Sara Troy and her guest Michele Kambolis from Harbourside Family Counseling Centre aired August 11th
One in five children has a diagnosable mental disorder; one in eight experienced clinical levels of anxiety. Amidst these extremes, every family must deal with some level of childhood stress: worries about changes at home, school pressures and scary headlines. What caused this surge in anxiety in our young people? How can parents combat this? Esteemed child and family therapist Michele Kambolis combine theory and practical, play- based activity to help this ‘generation stressed’.
Kambolis shows how to translate Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) techniques from her book Generation Stressed into fun, playful exercises that can be practised by parents with their children. CBT is the top, evidence-based toolset to reduce childhood anxiety; it teaches children powerful ways to change their thinking patterns and actions to decrease stress and increase resiliency.
Children experiencing high levels of anxiety are more likely to be physically sick, experience additional social problems, suffer from weakened brain development, and be less financially independent in later life. At a time when mental health is at the forefront of many parents’ priorities, Kambolis demystifies methods that ensure our children’s mental well-being. At the heart of these methods is a focus on joyful parenting and the relationship between parent and child.
Michele Kambolis(MA) is a registered Child and Family Therapist and Parent Educator dedicated to raising awareness about mental health issues. She is currently pursuing her PhD program in Mind-Body Medicine at Saybrook University and is passionate about supporting global health initiatives. Her book, Generation Stressed, has received widespread praise from therapists, families and media alike.Kambolis writes a popular weekly parenting advice column, Parent Traps, for The Vancouver Sun.
Michele shares with us an easy to use handbook which offers original, engaging and effective exercises developed by Kambolis that you can use at home, on the road and in social settings to alleviate the symptoms of anxiety in your child.

Their Story Matters with Sara Troy and her guest James Charles originally aired June 30th
Mental Challenges and Autism are even more evident today, but are we any closer to understanding them and the gifts they can be? Meet James Charles who has worked in the mentally disabled world for a long time only to discover he has always had Autism Spectrum Disorder.
Having struggled with social interaction and emotional development as a child, James was badly bullied and found himself consumed with overwhelming feelings of fear and anxiety. It wasn’t until he entered his fifth decade that the diagnoses of Autism Spectrum Disorder proved to be a revelation. It was only after he began to recognize the signs and symptoms of his patients in himself while he was working as a mental health practitioner, that he found the courage to seek out an official diagnosis. Suddenly released from the feelings of guilt, confusion and distress he had experienced since childhood, James embraced life anew, began studying to become a life coach, and finally realized that his autism was, in fact, a gift.
His book “Becoming Unique” is a moving and informative account of one man’s journey towards Autism Spectrum Disorder. Whilst delivering practical and constructive advice for those living with autism, Charles also examines the positive attributes of the disorder, which he calls a diffability. Becoming Unique is also a story of faith, as James examined his relationship with God and how he made peace with his diagnosis. A rare and valuable first-person narrative about living with autism, James Charles’ story will stay with the reader forever stay with you.
Positive Living Vibrations with Sara Troy and her guest Author, Speaker, Radio Talk Show Host – Helen Woo. Aired from May 19th on.
Then Take Your Cue from Helen Woo’s “SELF-AID” to Put Your Life Back on Track
Woo Offers the Transformative Thinking That Helped Her Overcome the Miseries in Her Life
Helen Woo endured her life. It wasn’t living. Raised in a restrictive traditional Chinese-American household, she experienced self-esteem issues, mental and physical abuse, grief, substance abuse, betrayal and depression. Yet she still managed to have a successful career that allowed her to build a bit of a nest egg. Later, when she invested it in a partnership with a close friend, only to have her partner steal all of the assets, that betrayal was the last straw. Alone and raising a son, Woo knew something had to change—and it wasn’t the world around her—it was the world within her.
Freed by the laughter she experienced watching Ellen Degeneres each day, Woo realized that laughter was indeed the best medicine for her. During her healing, she started to read inspirational books, and as she did, she began to revise what she was reading into her own, positive, uplifting interpretations so that it directly applied to her. Each negative thought or emotion was then subjected to a “rewrite” in her mind so that soon she could feel the shift in both her inner AND outer life.
Helen Woo is the author of the book, “SELF-AID” – Inspirations to Turn Struggles to Success”. Helen is also the radio talk show host: Self Aid Success Stories with Helen Woo on Toginet.com.
Helen wants the world to know that just because we find ourselves in a difficult situation doesn’t mean we have to stay there. We can always aid ourselves to a better life.
“Positive thinking in combination with positive action always leads to a positive outcome.” – Helen Woo
Sharp and Insightful Wisdom on Every Page, Each Quote Coupled With a “Woosim” to Shift Your ThinkingInto a Positive, New Mindset That Transforms Your Inner and Outer Life
Having experienced a philosophical and spiritual shift, Woo created the concept of SELF-AID–an acronym that stands for Self-Aid (self-help), Esteem, Love/Laughter, Freedom, Attitude, Integrity, Dream. Her new book SELF-AID – Inspirations to Turn Struggles into Success (January, 2015), allows her readers to be inspired and uplifted by the very quotes that ultimately turned her life around. Each quote is followed by one of her unique “Wooisms” — the ideal way to interpret the quote to engineer a shift into a higher and better way of thinking. The book, divided into each of these categories, provides Self-Aid for anyone to lift out of their doldrums or depression and move into a life filled with joy, peace, gratitude and prosperity.
Woo is passionate about paying it forward– giving others the thrust they need to overcome whatever past traumas and dramas might have held them back. With her new book, her radio show, SELF-AID Success Stories, and her second book of the same title, due in the spring, Woo shares empowering and inspiring stories from successful entrepreneurs and public figures on how they overcame their own struggles and failures. Woo is also creating a Self-Aid foundation for empowerment that gives people the courage to change from a negative to a positive framework in their lives; leaving the struggle behind and experiencing the surge!
Woo is now an emerging speaker, writer and leader, who brings a welcome ultra-positive perspective to everything she does. SELF-AID – Inspirations to Turn Struggles into Success is a key to opening up the reader’s heart and mind to reframe his or her life from lacklustre to luscious.

Originally Aired on July 15th, 2014 on Positive Living Vibrations Roundtable with Sara Troy and her guests Kathy Gambill and Colonel John Pettit
The dignity of a veteran should always be honoured for their service to their country. So why are so many coming home to nothing? We should not just celebrate them for dying for their country, but be there for them now in rebuilding their lives. They are shattered, they have had to do things that no man or woman should have to do, they are suffering from post-traumatic syndrome and many are unable to work. They are not the same people they were when they left, how can they be? they need help and support more than ever in that they can find dignity, meaning, and purpose once again in their lives.
Today we talk about the stress and anxiety and depression and what is being done to help the veterans to find a prosperous life again. Kathy Gambill and Colonel John Pettit are helping their soldiers regain their dignity and sanity with support and a nutrient called Q96. I have used this myself and know in how it helps, and if we can help the veterans around the world regain their lives, then let us find a way to do it.
Kathy Gambill
My background with the military goes back to 2006 thru 2010 When I was elected President of the “Everett Navy League”. This was not a paid position, but truly a labour of Love. Fundraising in the community and a very generous group of businessmen and women afforded me to supply our Navy families, with much-needed support.
My latest involvement with the Military is very exciting, but a much different path. A little over a year ago I was introduced to a Micronutrient that was helping restore tens of thousands of people’s lives who suffer from everything from mild and severe stress and depression to ADHD and many other brain disorders. The 25 clinical studies were very impressive, and the people I shared the product with were getting better. One of the people I was introduced to, who was desperately looking for help, happened to be COL Pettit’s daughter in law who was suffering from a severe case of Anxiety and also depression. I worked with her over approximately a 3 week period. COL Pettit was taking notice of her amazing recovery and that is when I was introduced to John. Little did I know that this was the beginning of a new and exciting project to help our Veterans overcome the challenges and the debilitating effects of what COL Pettit calls mind wounds. And our new project began. We have been working with active duty and veterans who are suffering the effects of long tours of combat duty, past and present.
