AK22-41. Janis R. Daly & The Unlocked Path

Authors Kiss with Sara Troy and her guest Janis Robinson Daly, on air from October 3rd

A “New Woman” of the Early 20th Century Battles Sexism & Self-Doubt for a Career in Medicine in this Factional novel by Janis Robinson Daly

The Unlocked Path tells the story of a “New Woman” of the early 20th century: educated, career-minded, independent Eliza Edwards. In 1897 Philadelphia, after witnessing her aunt’s suicide, Eliza rejects her mother’s wishes for a society debut, and at a time when only five percent of doctors are female, she enters the Woman’s Medical College of Pennsylvania. With the support of a circle of women and driven by a determination to conquer curriculum demands, battle sexism, and overcome doubts, Eliza charts her new life’s course. Combining science and sympathy, she triumphs to heal others and herself.

As a young intern, she summons a forthright confidence asserting her abilities to those mistrustful of a woman doctor. Through her work with poverty-stricken patients, she defines her version of suffrage work to champion women’s rights for and beyond the right to vote. When global events devolve into chaos with the 1918 influenza pandemic and a world war, Eliza renews her vow to help and heal.

  • Her inspiration for the novel: How a genealogy search on her great-great-grandfather, William S. Peirce, Esquire, led her to discover that he took an active part in founding the Woman’s Medical College in Philadelphia.
  • Her passion for documenting women in history whose stories need to be told
  • The extensive research she did for the novel and interesting facts she discovered

“Daly develops Eliza’s family ties and shows her passion for social change through her career choices and her opinions …. A work that effectively showcases the power of love, friendship, and faith – both in one’s calling and in oneself – to create change in the world.” – Kirkus Reviews Janis Robinson Daly’s debut novel,

Janis Robinson Daly grew up outside of Boston, graduating with a B.A. in Psychology from Wheaton College — at the time, an all-women’s college. At Wheaton, Janis developed a fond appreciation of the supportive relationships established between students, faculty, and alumni and a heightened awareness of female-centric issues. Both directed her writing of The Unlocked Path.

With a plot and themes sketched, Janis enrolled in a creative writing course sponsored by Wesleyan University to hone her skills. Combining years of extensive research and feedback from writers’ conferences and a series of beta and sensitivity readers, including the Executive Director of the American Medical Women’s Association for accuracy, she polished the manuscript and readied it for publication with independent press, Black Rose Writing.

Splitting her time between Cape Cod, New Hampshire, Florida and hotels along Route 95, a tablet became her Kindle library and desk, packed into a travel bag for reading and writing wherever she might land. Janis’ husband, along with their rescue pup, has willingly, and luckily, also embraced this nomadic lifestyle. More adventures beckon her to document other women in history whose stories need to be discovered. She is currently working on a sequel to The Unlocked Path, following two main characters into and through the Depression and World War II. From the polio epidemic and research into the vaccine, to the Coconut Grove nightclub fire and more, readers will again be treated to a story centered on events of the past, rich in historical detail.  For more information on Janis, please visit:

TSM22-40. Gisèle Huff is a Force of Nature

Their Story Matters with Sara Troy with her guest Gisele Huff, on air from September 26th

The Remarkable True Story of One Holocaust Survivor’s Resilience, Tenacity, and Purpose

At 86 years old, Gisèle Huff is truly a force of nature. Her life has been a remarkable journey, filled with tragedy, triumph, and accomplishment. Having survived the Holocaust, where eighteen members of her family were murdered, she and her mother left war-torn France, emigrating to America with only $400 to their name. Gisèle is someone who embodies “The American Dream,” and a testament to the idea that, if you work hard in America, you will be successful. A life-long Libertarian, Gisèle ran for Congress as a Republican in 1998, but made a 180-degree ideological turn 20 years later.

In her new memoir, Force of Nature: The Remarkable True Story of One Holocaust Survivor’s Resilience, Tenacity and Purpose (August 30, 2022, Simonet Press), Gisèle tells how she embraced the value of education, earning her PhD from Columbia University and launching a career in K–12 education that spanned decades. Her tireless work to revolutionize the school system changed the lives of countless children and gave rise to the integration of technology into the curriculum. Having worked with intellectual and political giants on both sides of the aisle, including Milton Friedman, Jeb Bush (R), former governor of FL and Bob Wise (D), former governor of WV, Gisèle repeatedly champions the idea of collaboration. It was Jeb Bush who named her the “First Lady of Blended Learning.”

However, it was her late son Gerald who introduced Gisèle to the concept of Universal Basic Income (UBI), a government program in which every adult citizen receives a set amount of money regularly, with no “strings attached.” As automation replaces our workforce and the idea of technological unemployment is a not-so-distant threat to our economy, Gisèle began to recognize that the “American Dream” will not be obtainable in the future as it was for past generations. At the age of 72, Gisèle began to embrace progressive values so whole-heartedly that she is now an ardent promoter of UBI and the founder of The Gerald Huff Fund for Humanity.

“Who would have thought that I, a dedicated believer in the power of the free market, would eventually head a foundation devoted to ensuring every citizen receives a basic income? I’ve learned that there is so much power in changing your mind. No matter how attached a person is to their ideas, anyone can change and grow just as I did—all it requires is an open mind.”

:Gisèle Huff was born in 1936 in Paris to working-class Russian Jewish immigrants. She moved to the US when she was eleven and went on to earn a PhD in political science from Columbia University. For more than two decades, Gisèle served as the executive director of the Jaquelin Hume Foundation, which invested in nonprofit, national organizations that worked on transforming K–12 education. She received the Thomas A. Roe Award and the iNACOL Huff Lifetime Achievement Award. She is deeply involved in raising awareness about technological unemployment and promoting universal basic income, the legacy of her late son. She is the founder of the Gerald Huff Fund for Humanity. Becky started her career as a Physician Assistant in 2006 initially working in the ER.  She spent the bulk of her career working in Cardiology where she became frustrated with the current healthcare model.  While she was a practicing PA in Cardiology, Becky decided to get certified as a health coach to help her patients with their own well-being. Becky got certified through NSHC which is a clinician-based certification program focusing on motivational interviewing to help patients on their journey to live healthier lives.

After she got certified, Becky started a program in her Cardiology Clinic as a free source of information and motivation for her patients to attend. The program had great response and she found that patients were able to obtain their health goals with the proper tools and coaching.  Becky was the wellness advocate in that clinic and offered one and one support and coaching to staff and patients as needed.

Becky I also began a blog in 2014 and wrote to inspire women who were on their own health and wellness path.  She continued health coaching individually and in groups during this time.

She also co-founded a real estate investing business with her then husband in 2012 through 2020.

In 2017, the cardiology clinic closed its doors abruptly and Becky was faced with finding employment in another field.  She went on to work in Urgent Care, but realized that she wanted to shift to coaching full-time.

In 2018 to 2019, Becky decided to invest in her own professional development and began a leadership development course through GiANT worldwide.  At the end of 2019, it was clear to Becky that she needed to pursue coaching full-time. She got certified with GiANT to so she could work with organizations to help them with strategic people development.

Becky started working with a health coaching company initially in 2020 and started her leadership development company later that year.  She built up her business and now is a full-time entrepreneur focusing on helping teams move forward from burnout culture.

22-40. Let the Universe in.

Sara’s View of Life with Sara Troy, on air from September 27th

I have grown up in a world of hate, judgement, fear and lack of soul knowledge. My job was always to be an awakener of souls of other awakeners, from the beginning of my time that has been my role. To show the souls how to connect, to show them their possibilities, to show them the path for which they are meant to walk on, it has been my many life time roles.

But, the world became dark thunderous loud and disconnected. The flight or fight mode became all too prevalent and people lost their belief in a wonderful life and soul connection. One of the things I have not enjoyed is feeling the soul pain of others, feeling their hopelessness, and with time and many life times I too began to feel that way and because of it, lost my way. I became disconnected to my soul, my heart became painful to feel, my spirit broken and my mind filled with confusion, fear hate loss and loneliness. I was lost.

In 1994 wonderful women freed me of 172 past lifetimes, of a pattern that was blocking me from embracing my purpose my spirit. It was a wonderful experience to be reborn, to rediscover me, not my past patterning. I felt my heart grow once again filled with love, my soul had a voice once again and connected me to my divine home, my spirit could fly again and my mind just let go, let go, let go. I was me, the me I was meant to be, the me who was free.

Then it was decided that I needed to be grounded, to connect with this earth and feel its pain, oh so painful, so heavy too loud; it hurt me, it brought me back down, and I fought to be free again. It has been over ten years now, since I took another healing journey of podcasting, and I have learned what I needed to know from being rooted so I could spread my wings high up into the sky, and it is my time to fly again, but I had forgotten how.? No, for I was a Phoenix, always able to get the knowledge and bring it back, for it was and is my soul, my heart and spirits mission and who I am in all my essence of being a human spirit.

We all lose our way, but if we are willing to let go of what does not serve us, and be free and open and allow the universe’s abundant wisdom to come through us, we discover the clarity of our assistance and the gift we are to each other.

Open your soul (higher self) to the universes wisdom, let it connect with your heart in truth, and then ignite your spirit into action and extract from your mind what it is you need to know in the present.

Set your self free by listening to podcasts, and find that someone who can show you your way home to you and your inner souls spirit.

C22-40. Happy Healthy Julie Mann

Julie has worked as an actor for over 40 years.  Her CV includes working at London’s prestigious National Theatre, playing several roles in BBC TV plays and regularly presenting a BBC Radio programme for children.  Julie’s voice over work includes client Ikea.

About 25 years ago, whilst pregnant with her daughter Katie, Julie experienced ‘panic attacks’ and in desperation went to see a Hypnotherapist.  The Hypnotherapy was so effective that she decided to train as a Hypnotherapist herself.  A few years later, Julie discovered  Life Coaching and EFT, and decided to add those skills to her toolbox.

As Julie was approaching her 60’s, her husband very suddenly asked for a divorce.  Although she loved acting and working with clients, Julie knew that without a pension, she would need another income stream too.  Whatever she ‘added in’, would need to be flexible and allow her to work the hours she wanted to work, no matter where she was in the World.

Not knowing anything about health or wellness, and never having run her own online business before, Julie took a leap, realising that partnering with a 42 year old brand that offered all the support and mentorship she needed, meant she’d find a way to be successful at it.  Besides, knowing that the key to a happy, healthy life is ‘self care’, it would fit perfectly with what she was already doing.

In a nutshell, Julie combines her acting work with showing men and women how to live, healthy, happy, sustainable lives by changing their habits and using cutting edge products to help them age well.’
