I want to share Jenny’s life journey with Autism as she is living proof and a role model that these individuals are a huge asset and blessing to society and to us individually. There is still a stigma with Autism and the world needs to look at it in a entirely different way.

05040_Story_Jenny001 Jenny was born in Yellowknife, but lived the majority of her life in Vernon, British Columbia. Jenny graduated Grade 12 with Honors and Scholarships and then moved right after High School to Vancouver to attend Vancouver Film School for Animation and is now a 2D Classical and 3D Digital Character Design Animator. Jenny recently just finished working on a film for Super Channel with her animation and about to start on another film. Jenny also published her novel of a Trilogy in May 2015 and right from pre order was an Amazon and Canadian Best Seller. She is currently working on the second novel for the Trilogy. Despite being diagnosed with very low functioning Autism at 3 years old, Jenny has blossomed and always remained focused on pursuing her dreams and is passionate in inspiring others to do the same. She has just turned 23 this month, 95 % out of her Autism and is living proof and a role model to show others that Autism is not a Death Sentence but a rich fulfilled Life Sentence.

0214-Janet Wamsley564-8x10Print Janet Walmsley is a born and raised Manitoban, where she lived 20 years of her life and the who has also lived in Vernon, BC, Yellowknife, NWT and Germany. Janet was a Dental Assistant & Hygienist for 27 years and Head Marketer for a Canadian Company for 14 years. She now lives in Vancouver, BC Canada and along with being a Mother to Jenny and her son Chris, Janet has an active professional career in acting, with her theater career spanning decades and been in Film, TV, Commercials, Voice Overs and much more, for the past 6 years. Recently Janet was nominated for Best Supporting Actress for a Comedy at the 6th Annual Indie Awards in Los Angles and was submitted for Leo Award nomination here in BC. In June of 2016, Janet was awarded the 2016 Unlimited Woman of Creativity in Victoria, BC. When Jenny was first diagnosed with Autism it has been Janet’s mission to support Jenny 110% and raise Autism awareness and bring out the positive of Autism and not the usual stigma with it. Janet has and does work tirelessly in every avenue to provide all the support and opportunities for her daughter and be her constant rock, her voice and sounding board. Even going out of Canada to research Autism, find more support and further her knowledge about caring for her daughter. Even though diagnosed with Breast Cancer in July of 2014, Janet published her own book, The Autistic Author and Animator, A Mother’s View of a Daughter’s Triumph, as Janet and Jenny wanted to publish their books at the same time and do book events and talks together. It is also a best seller and Jenny’s story is reaching out and touching the hearts of many people. Her story is not only to reach out to the Autistic community, but to everyone.

Dr. Catana Tully’s incredible story shows how an exotic child adopted into a White family learned to overcome painful racial confusion, misplaced identity, poor self-image, and fear of abandonment to lead a meaningful and significant life.

Through the years I was often encouraged to tell the story of my ‘fairy tale’ life. However, not until reaching my late forties, when I became increasingly at odds with myself, did I discover that what seemed magical to others was not necessarily so. Eventually, I discovered issues more important than details of my life I needed to share with a larger audience.

The central theme of my book addresses ethnic misplacement due to having been raised within a culture and among a people different to my own. I have structured the story chronologically to reveal layers of great privilege and simultaneous disinheritance.

Unlike any adoption memoir, in this story the issues of the adopted child surface much later in life. The first obvious market for this book is older exotic children who were adopted into mainstream White culture in the US and Europe where interracial adoptions have become a popular phenomenon. However, the concerns should be of great interest to all parents, or prospective parents of adoptees, older exotic adoptees, and all people of mixed races.

Today the retired college professor is the bestselling author of Split at the Root: A Memoir of Love and Lost Identity. After retiring from her position of tenured college professor, she has dedicated herself to addressing the pressing issues adult exotic adoptees, and parents who have or are planning to adopt interracially, face on a daily basis. She offers words of wisdom and tools to strengthen their impaired images of themselves, their race, their religion, and their culture.

Author2-225x300 Dr. Catana Tully grew up trilingual (German, Spanish, English) in Guatemala where she attended elementary and middle school. In tenth grade she entered a boarding school in Jamaica, WI and received her Advanced Level Higher Schools Certificate from Cambridge University, England. Expecting to become an international interpreter, she continued her studies at the Sprachen und Dolmetscher Institut in Munich, Germany. However, she was called to work in a play and discovered her affinity for the dramatic arts. She became the actress and fashion model Catana Cayetano and appeared in Film and TV work in Germany, Austria, and Italy. In Munich she met and married the American actor Frederick V. Tully and ultimately moved to the United States. They have a son, split-at-the-root-paperback-cover1 Patrick. In Upstate New York, she completed the BA in Cultural Studies, an MA in Latin American and Caribbean Literature, and a DA (doctor of Arts) in Humanistic Studies. She held the position of tenured Associate Professor at SUNY Empire State College, from which she retired in 2003. She returned in 2005 for part time work in ESC’s Center for International Programs, where she served as Mentor and instructor in the Lebanon program, and as Interim Program Director for the Dominican Republic. In 2011 she retired completely to dedicate herself to publishing Split at the Root. She is currently preparing an academic version discussing the psychological issues embedded in the memoir.

Gerald Molen, Academy Award-winning producer of Schindler’s List, brings the fight against child sex trafficking to the big screen with the release of the documentary THE ABOLITIONISTS, was in partnership with Fathom Events for a one-night event in select movie theatres. Featuring former CIA and Homeland Security operative Tim Ballard, the documentary contains undercover footage from rescue operations conducted around the world.

Human trafficking has become the world’s fastest-growing crime, with over 27 million people enslaved–nearly 2 million of them children. THE ABOLITIONISTS takes viewers behind the scenes as Ballard and his team of highly trained operatives risk their own lives to free innocent children from captivity.

On December 10th, 2013, Special Agent Tim Ballard turned in his Homeland Security badge and resigned from his employment with the United States government after spending a decade rescuing children from child sex tourism domestically and overseas. Though his job was difficult, he was proud that his country was one of very few in the world actually doing anything about this problem.

However, despite the U.S. government’s best efforts, Tim observed that red tape and bureaucracy left many children falling through the cracks. These children constitute over 90% of the children lost to child sex slavery, and Tim could do nothing to help them while in the employment of the US government.

Now the Founder and CEO of Operation Underground Railroad (O.U.R.), Ballard and his team investigate and rescue enslaved children from around the world, while undercover film crews posing as traffickers record each of these dangerous rescue operations.

Utilizing hidden cameras and surveillance equipment, directors Darrin Fletcher and Chet Thomas capture every moment of freedom fighters triumphing over evil that will leave viewers inspired to join in the fight of THE ABOLITIONISTS.

Timothy Ballard is the Founder and CEO of Operation Underground Railroad (O.U.R.). He also serves as O.U.R.’s Jump Team Commander for rescue operations. Ballard began his career at the CIA where he dealt with terrorism and Latin America. He spent over a decade working as a Special Agent for the Department of Homeland Security where he was assigned to the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force and deployed as an undercover operative for the U.S. Child Sex Tourism Jump Team.

Tim has worked every type of case imaginable in the fight to dismantle child trafficking rings. Ballard has worked undercover in the U.S. and in multiple foreign countries to infiltrate child trafficking organizations. In this effort, he has successfully dismantled dozens of these organizations and rescued countless children from sex slavery. He is an expert at managing Internet investigations, particularly those dealing with file-share networks where pedophiles and traffickers go to trade in child pornography. He has trained hundreds of law enforcement officers at home and abroad in best practices to liberate children from sex slavery.

I married a Chinese guy much to my mothers horror, and although we are not together any more we have 3 incredible children to be thankful for. Yes they are mixed, does that mean any thing? Not to me, I see them in all their divine beauty and in unison of races only builds a broader future.

Today I will share my perspective on mixed race children and the whole race divide. Please read the story my mother wrote when my oldest was born.

My mother who was British and raised in Indian with a father who was a Colonel in the British army, was bought up to believe that no race should have mixed children. This is her letter to my first born child of mixed race, Tabytha.

My Mother Wrote.

When I was young my father said “In all the books I have read it was considered very best that the East should never mate with the West.” Now I am older and alone the oracle is one of my own, I feared to say the very least taking the hand one from the East.

When my golden girl with East did mate I mourned within for this unknown fate of my father’s words, that he knew best.

As I waited the result of East and West betwixt with pain and joy, I tried to prepare to take into my heart the child that was near.

That day dawned and away went fear, my heart overflowed the child was here.

From my head the old words returned, but I had a lesson learned.

That East and Wests love conquers fear, as in my arms they put you there.

Two pairs of eyes, Blue and Black filled pride they could not hold back. I looked at the link that came from this pair and my heart opened wide with such love for her.

We joined in rejoicing over one so dear, this black haired doe eyes rosy Tabytha.

Tabytha shares her view on growing up of mixed race.

12642612_10156527142695581_5139872355156635349_n Growing up as mixed in the 80’s I was marked as “yellow”. I was too young to understand other cultures, or that I am half Chinese, half British. I did dream of having blue eyes like my Mother though…. As I grew older mixed culture was part of every day life, our friends were Italian, Western, Chinese, Japanese, East Indian, African…..we saw more people in Canada, especially in B.C. be of mixed race, not even just immigrants but black and white couples, Latino and European kids etc. We knew no difference we were all just kids.

I’m very glad I was raised by different multiculturalism. I even joke today that if I ever get married, I hope to have mixed children myself, one day -well, maybe-if I marry, so that they get the best of 2 or 3 worlds: My brother and sister and I were born in BC Canada with ‘North American’ ways, with a Chinese father and British mother. Tea time with Earl grey after school with scones, then Chow mien for supper (different in Europe, actually tea time is supper but anyway), let’s just call it dinner then, followed by oolong Chinese tea.

The world is a vast place, but it can also be a small world. Everyone should be able to live harmoniously and enjoy what each culture can bring. Racism is weak, for people who are afraid. Imagine never having pizza or tacos or sushi or listening to old blues or having different art and music and language influences? Pretty boring huh. Thanks Mom and Dad for making us not a majority of white kids in a Canadian city.

Glad it has changed today and has become more acceptable to be different. SEE ME FOR WHO I AM.

“Not being able to identify with one particular culture. Made it difficult to place my self somewhere. And was perhaps the provider for my inability to find attachments to things throughout my life. But I’m not sure that’s a bad thing; I don’t feel apart of any one category. And though that can be confusing, it’s also allowed me freedom to be whatever I feel I need to be in that moment.”

Anne Bethune has been living in Vancouver, BC, since she moved from Ontario in 1986 after graduating from Queen’s University in Occupational Therapy. She arrived in BC with a budding career path as an Occupational Therapist (OT) and a passion/expertise for adaptive recreation. As a young girl, Anne took on leadership roles as a camp counsellor, ski instructor, sailing instructor and leader in her school student council and athletics, including class valedictorian.

28 years ago, Anne brought with her to BC her extensive experience teaching sailing to people with disabilities in Ontario and the Caribbean, and she quickly stepped into her leadership in Vancouver, matched energy with Sam Sullivan, to hatch what is now the Disabled Sailing Association of BC at Jericho Sailing Center. At this time, Anne worked at Shaughnessy Hospital as an OT with survivors of traumatic spinal cord injury while teaching skiing at our Cypress, Grouse and Whistler Mountains. Anne combined her passion for the adaptive sport and her love of ski teaching and began her years of volunteering as an instructor for Disabled Skier Association of BC at Grouse Mountain – the roots of what we now know as Vancouver Adaptive Snow Sports.

Her career shifted to working in community-based practice as an Occupational Therapist with survivors of traumatic brain injuries and complex orthopaedic injuries for 12 years followed by work with North Shore Health – Vancouver Coastal Health Authority.

Anne’s leadership and influence within the adaptive skiing world ignited quickly and she has become known as a leader not only within our local community but with our national organization CADS (Canadian Association of Disabled Skiers) as a CADS Examiner and globally with her involvements with the International Paralympic Committee as an IPC Alpine Skiing Classifier. She has been involved on many committees locally and globally in the adaptive sports world.

Anne was a proud torch bearer during the Vancouver 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Games nominated as a leader in our local community within the adaptive sport world. Anne has received many awards most recently ‘2015 British Columbia Community Achievement Award’.

In addition to Anne’s volunteer work, Anne has a successful home-based global business in the health and wellness industry with Isagenix International and has impacted the lives of thousands of people with her expertise/passion for people and health. She has solutions for Weight Loss, Energy, Performance, Healthy Ageing and Wealth Creation.

In addition to her volunteer and work activities, Anne has the proud mother of three thriving teen boys and has nurtured their passions for music, sport and outdoor recreation. Her youngest has been a singer in the BC Boys Touring Choir and passionate about outdoors/ leadership as youth camp leader, her middle son is focused on an elite level hockey path and her oldest son is a gifted singer/songwriter/guitar player.

The name Bethune may sound familiar – indeed, Anne’s descendant was Dr. Norman Bethune, the famous Canadian physician and international humanitarian – proving that the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree.
