TSM 15/34 You did not Invite RAPE it was their CHOICE

RAPE…..Is not to be taken lightly and is no laughing matter IT SCARES FOR LIFE

SMILING FLIRTING EVEN OVERT SEXUAL ATTENTION IS STILL NOT AN INVITATION TO RAPE.

Being a sensual and sexy woman is not an invitation or permission to RAPE. BEING A WOMAN IS NOT PERMISSION TO RAPE.

Being a child a wife an innocent is not permission for you to rape. Why is it that some men think that a woman being friendly or living in her own sensuality means that she is rapable? How can any man look at a child and think sexual thoughts and ACT ON THEM?

It is shameful that in this day and age with so much global information we still have to address the issue of a girls, women’s, boys right to say NO and not be raped and that some cultures still think they have the RIGHT to RAPE.

Their Story Matters with Sara Troy and her guest Michele Kambolis from Harbourside Family Counseling Centre aired August 11th

One in five children has a diagnosable mental disorder; one in eight experienced clinical levels of anxiety. Amidst these extremes, every family must deal with some level of childhood stress: worries about changes at home, school pressures and scary headlines. What caused this surge in anxiety in our young people? How can parents combat this? Esteemed child and family therapist Michele Kambolis combine theory and practical, play- based activity to help this ‘generation stressed’.

At the heart of these methods is a focus on joyful parenting and the relationship between parent and child.

TSM 15/33 Who Says You Can’t? Just Do IT.

Their Story Matters with Sara Troy and her guest Alvin Law aired from August 18th

Start an Attitude Revolution

Imagine if everyone in your organization saw themselves, and each other, as leaders. If they positively influenced each other by proactively jumping in and making things happen. If they inspired each other by consistently operating from a mindset of ‘yes’.

Alvin-drumming

What could you accomplish? How far could you go? Maybe you need to work to be awesome

Like you, attitude expert and bestselling author Alvin Law has heard a lot of clichés about cultivating a positive attitude. But are any of them true? Does a positive attitude really guarantee success in life? Should we force ourselves to think positively, no matter what our situation? Will mantras and sound bites change how we view ourselves and the world? Or are we thinking about attitude all wrong?

With over three decades of professional speaking and over five (ahem) decades of experience living life without arms, his view is radically different.

AlvinLaw_Promo1_fullAlvin’s mission is to spark a worldwide Attitude Revolution. Attitude Revolutions happen because people are inspired, from within themselves, to practice cultivating a more proactive and effective outlook on their lives. Alvin knows, and demonstrates to his audiences, that attitude is not about touchy-feely platitudes or ‘thinking positive’ – attitude is how we look at and interpret life overall. It is a skill that can be learned, and that must be practised. It is a tool that can be used. Most importantly, it can’t be imposed upon people – it has to come from a genuine place.

Alvin uses his story to challenge audiences to rewrite the negative stories they tell themselves about themselves; to stop feeling like victims in their lives and get proactive; to stop making excuses and start making choices. His fusion of storytelling, musical performance and down-to-earth humour connect with his audiences at an intimate, intense and individual level. Over 7,500 organizations on five continents, including Cisco Systems, Pfizer and Telus, have used Alvin to ignite, engage and transform their people.

Born with no arms as a result of the drug Thalidomide, Alvin was adopted by a family who taught him to use his feet for hands – and who by doing so gave him the gift of freedom. In addition to being a professional speaker, he is a trained broadcaster, fundraiser, award-winning musician and bestselling author. He has earned the designation of Certified Speaking Professional (CSP), an honour possessed by less than ten percent of professional speakers worldwide. In 2009, Alvin was inducted into the Canadian Association of Speakers (CAPS) Hall of Fame.

He has played a direct role in raising over $175,000,000 for charity.

TSM 15/30 The Majesty Healing Beauty of Art

Their Story Matters with Sara Troy and her guest Caprice Hogg aired July 28th

We live in a world of assumption and judgment and we do not look further into what is possible from within ourselves and others. We are all capable of being great we all are given a gift that is our purpose, and no matter what life’s challenge is, we can embrace that path for it is our destiny. Caprice who has Muscular Dystrophy but does not let anything hold her back from the wonderful divine path chosen for her with her art.

171fc94a1dac9d97c1eb6d59bfb9b25e

Caprice first picked up her paintbrush in 1994 and quickly discovered a hidden talent.  She studied with artists Karen Hersey and Keith Smith and soon found herself in a world of colourful oils, shapes, and art techniques.  Her insatiable thirst for knowledge of art has become an obsession as Caprice eagerly reads each and every art book she can get her hands on.

In 1998, Caprice’s first solo exhibition gave her the confidence and courage to pursue painting as a full-time career. She has continued to exhibit on an ongoing basis and her works are now in private and corporate collections in Western and Eastern Canada, the United States, Europe, and New Zealand.  Caprice works and exhibits her paintings from her Studio Gallery located in Kimberley, British Columbia, Canada.

Caprice prefers selling directly to her clients, as it allows her to get to know the unique people who purchase her work.  You are welcome to view Caprice’s paintings at her Studio Gallery in Kimberley, British Columbia.

Caprice feels privileged to be able to use her talent to help others.  She has donated several paintings to organizations such as  Muscular Dystrophy Canada, Wildsight Environmental Society, In-Definite Arts Society which supports art programs for people with developmental disabilities, and “Reaching E-Quality Employment Services” which assists people with disabilities to find full-time employment.  For two consecutive years, Caprice was commissioned by the Variety Club of British Columbia to produce a painting for their annual “Show of Hearts” Telethon to benefit children with special needs.   She was also commissioned, along with five other prominent Canadian women artists, to produce a painting for the Canadian Foundation for Women’s Health.  Caprice is a strong advocate for the environment, animal rights and natural health, all of which are reflected in her lifestyle.

In 2005, Caprice was honoured by her high school, The Lethbridge Collegiate Institute, with their “Wall of Distinction” Award, along with Olympic gold medal hockey player Billy Gibson.  This lifetime achievement award acknowledges career accomplishments and humanitarian efforts. Caprice received yet another honour in 2011, this time from her elementary and junior high school, St. Joseph’s School when she was inducted on to their “Wall of Fame” in Coaldale, Alberta.

Teaching art has become another passion for Caprice.  Passing on the knowledge that was passed on to her is certainly an important part of her career.  Working with children has been especially rewarding, as their innocence and imagination is inspiring!  In 2011, Caprice had a  great experience teaching “at risk” teenagers at the Kimberley Alternate School and hopes to do more in the future.

Whenever the opportunity arises, Caprice does venture past her studio door and travels to not only see new landscapes but also to art galleries and museums in Canada and abroad.  She finds them most illuminating and maintains a level of inspiration.

Unable to physically walk through forests and climb steep mountains, Caprice calls upon the powers of her imagination to experience their beauty and majesty.  Her vibrant colours and bold strokes reflect her strong connection to mother nature.  Looking at a Caprice painting is the next best thing to being there!

Rick Hansen photo from the Lethbridge Herald.  …his tour was called “Man in Motion”..the photo caption “Man and Emotion!”.  Such a treasure!
