Building your business with Sara Troy and her guest Rob Dublin, on air from February 1st
The Great Resignation is challenging HR departments and affecting bottom lines. Yet even the most forward-thinking companies cannot solve the problem of employee happiness on their own. The real solution is teaching employees the actual recipe for happiness – yes there is a recipe for happiness and when your staff learns it they will be far more engaged at work and more fulfilled at home….and they will stay on the job.
By my mid 20’s I was an award-winning filmmaker who owned my own company and was well paid to travel the world camera in hand doing work for numerous Fortune 500 companies. A near-death survival experience made international news and elicited a call from the President of the United States. This prompted a re-examination of life and two years later at age 42 my wife and I sold our home and moved aboard a 40′ sailboat. We spent the next 17 years living on a sailboat sailing around the world. We studied human happiness and fulfillment with both billionaires and barefoot villagers in 100 countries. I teach people a recipe for happiness. For individuals, this translates to more fulfilling careers and happier home life and for corporations, it stems from resignations and transforms workplaces resulting in increases in bottom lines.

One thing that drives me bonkers is watching people trying to explain their business with the wrong words and delivery. Aside from feeling embarrassed, they are leaving money on the table. Every. Single. Time. Let’s clear this all up for you and get you ON TRACK for speaking with confidence, clarity, and charisma. Then you can grow the business you want — and deserve! You’ve got this! Here’s a hint: It’s not about your credentials. It’s not about your money mindset. And it’s not about your website, branding, or snappy business name. Attracting dream clients to your business is a helluva lot easier when you have the 3 V’s that open the door. Only then can you start sharing your expertise, gifts, and talent. Look, I’ve had the honor of coaching newbie entrepreneurs trying to get their first few clients to experienced speakers who coach NFL + NBA athletes and CEOs. I’ll tell you one thing that’s absolutely true. Not a drop of doubt— ALL of them have the same 3 KEY V’s at their core. Not one of the KEY V’s is ever missing. So… what are the 3 KEY V’s, you wonder? 1) Messaging that clearly shows deep VALUE to dream clients because it’s always about keeping their results in mind-not yours (It doesn’t matter if it’s widgets or wealth investments—this is ALWAYS true!) Which brings me to… 2) A story and offer that reveals the VISION of your dream clients’ desire. Heartfelt storytellers show prospects that they understand them at a deep core level. They know their wants and desires beyond a goofy avatar. It could be they want more time with family, a boat, a degree, a new partner—or a holiday bursting with gifts for the kiddos. It doesn’t matter…Which brings me to the need for… 3) An irresistible, mesmerizing, and charismatic VOICE for people who are ready to buy. You’ll infuse your natural personality in just the right way so you feel aligned, not awkward. And it works. Because it’s simply a conversation and not a pushy sales pitch. And, if you’re like some of my clients who don’t like to sell, remember this: You don’t have a viable business if money doesn’t trade hands.
The 3 KEYS may sound easy enough, right??? But if people aren’t responding to your message, it means one or more of the KEY V’s is either missing or needs tweaking. And you feel frustration, disappointment, and angst. So how do you fix this? How do you have the right KEYS to open the door (AKA sign the new client) so you can start sharing your expertise, gifts, and talent? How do you make the 3 KEY V’s work for YOU? Well… it’s WAY too long to explain in an email.

Ellen M. Snee, EdD, a former Catholic nun and author of LEAD: How Women in Charge Claim Their Authority. From the C-suite to the Senate floor, women in leadership positions are at historic highs. And research now shows that women are more effective than men in 84% of competencies associated with leadership. Yet many accomplished and capable women continue to struggle with issues related to ambition, power, and authority. What explains this disconnect? Dr. Snee, who has been at the forefront of women’s leadership development for more than 25 years, is available to share her unique perspective on women leaders in roles of authority.
Informative, uplifting, and empowering, LEAD is a leadership book for our times. It has received advance praise from business leaders, academics, and experts on women’s leadership including Sally Helgesen, best-selling author of How Women Rise, The Female Vision, The Female Advantage.
Snee’s earlier experience as a Catholic nun affords her a unique perspective on women leaders in roles of authority. She lived and worked with women who ran large educational and non-profit institutions. There she learned how:
women can collaborate with other women while navigating the male hierarchies
to mobilize individuals, teams, and organizations toward a shared mission
to assert her authority when necessary without harming relationships with others
to gain critical—and transferable—skills that apply to all women who want to exercise power and authority as a leader
Possible Topics that Dr. Snee speaks to include:
Claim Your Desires, Communicate With Purpose, and Lead With Authority In this inspiring, actionable talk, she lays out her proven coaching model for leading from the inside out. Performance vs. Promotability: The Key to Career Advancement
Women often see merit as the best way to get ahead: Keep your head down, get the work done, cultivate good relationships with your team or staff. But there is a difference between performance and promotability and it’s key to advancing in your career.
Holding Power and Embracing Discomfort
Leading with authority means embracing power, not just “influence.” Power means you are in control, including the ability to hire, fire, manage assets, and impact lives. This includes the unique challenges — and opportunities — inherent when women have authority including over other women.
Networking With Authority
The power of a network is not “who you know,” but “who knows you.” It’s vital to build webs of connection with individuals and organizations outside and beyond your own company. These relationships become increasingly important over the course of a career.
ELLEN SNEE, EdD, has been at the forefront of women’s leadership development for more than 25 years. Her original research at Harvard University on women’s experience in roles of authority formed the foundation of her company’s work with Fortune 500 companies such as Cisco, Goodyear, Marriott, Pfizer, and Schwab. Later, as Global VP of Leadership Development at VMware, she launched its business initiative, VMwomen, to attract, develop, advance, and retain talented women. Ellen lives in the San Francisco Bay Area. For more information, please visit:
