C23-13.Eileen Head Live Your Best Life.

Choose Positive Living with Sara Troy and her guest Eileen Head, on air from March 28th

I see many women 50+ feeling “Is this all there is?” There is a low-grade depression and sometimes resentment.

They have raised the kids, maybe had a career and often feel stuck in the same patterns. Their relationship isn’t what they would like it to be or they may be single and still looking for a partner. Life become humdrum, monotonous, and hopeless that they may never fulfill the dreams they had or are afraid of even dreaming.

I will teach them how I have come to Thrive… and they can too no matter what your relationship status or situation is!

It is about changing sabotaging mindset patterns and releasing limiting beliefs.  It is about transformation.

I will teach them using the laws of attraction how to manifest and Live Their Best Life

I used to believe that I would never be able to live near a beach for the winters until I shifted my mindset to be on the vibrational level to Create My Best Life.

C23-10. Carmel Ecker Everyone has habits and behaviours

Choose Positive Living with Sara Troy and her guest Carmel Ecker, on air from March 7th

Why do people procrastinate or please other people to their own detriment? What is it that makes some people feel the need to control everything or become so focused on winning that their relationships deteriorate?

Everyone has habits and behaviours that help us in some ways but cause problems in other ways. They are coping mechanisms we’ve developed in life that once helped us but have become an overused default that can negatively impact our success, our happiness and our relationships.

The good news is that changing these behaviours is simple. The key is to build 3 core mental muscles.

Just like exercising a physical muscle would make it stronger, exercising these 3 mental muscles helps you to overpower old, unhelpful habits and create powerful new ones. The result is called Mental Fitness.

In this episode, Life Coach Carmel Ecker will share the practical lessons from research that combines the fields of Positive Psychology, Performance Science, Neuroscience and Cognitive Behavioural Psychology with independent research by Executive Coach, Stanford lecturer and Author Shirzad Chamine, creator of the Positive Intelligence program Carmel uses in her coaching practice.

You’ll walk away with new insights into why you sometimes make unhelpful choices and how you can effectively change them with a simple daily practice.

Carmel is a life coach who focuses on helping you tame your mental gremlins.

She’s on a mission to help you untether yourself from all the “shoulds” and “can’ts” that have been holding you back.

She knows what it’s like. For too many years, she believed she was meant for something big but every time an opportunity to shine came along, she hid. She made “safe” choices. And she failed spectacularly at living the life she didn’t really want in the first place.

By age 35, she was a divorced single parent working a job that no longer interested her. And she wondered what the heck she was supposed to do. The more she developed as a person, the more she realized the supposedly safe path she had chosen was never the one she was meant to follow.

When she finally got tired of hearing her own complaining, she hired a coach and started taking full responsibility for the results in her life. That coach guided her from being a burned out, exhausted and bored 9-5 employee to launching her own business and dramatically improving her quality of life.

Now, as a mental fitness and life coach, she helps others change the unhelpful stories in their minds so they can perform better, feel happier and improve their relationships.

C23-06. Journalists Suswati Basu, knowledge is power.

Choose Positive Living with Sara Troy and her guest Suswati Basu, on air from February 7th

I believe that knowledge is power, whether, through books or research, we can all know ourselves a little better. Even though I have faced many adversities in both mental and physical health, I feel that we never stop growing as people. As a journalist, we face challenges on producing content that people will read with an open mind, and want to engage in conversation about the subjects.

Specialties: women in technology, DEI, gender, social model of disability, race, and social politics; British, Chinese, and Indian politics, mental health, eating disorders, nonfiction books.

Suswati Basu is a multilingual disabled intelligence journalist, former intelligence expert, mental health books show podcast host, and award-winning activist.

As a survivor and thriver from trauma, living with both mental health and physical disabilities, she began the International Women’s Podcast Award-nominated How To Be... Books show looking at helping mental wellbeing through reading and interviewing authors. Speaking to more than 50 authors in the past two years, including powerhouse people such as internationally renowned writer Seth Godin and veteran journalist Gary Younge, Suswati gained huge insight throughout the year and has been developing and creating a like-minded community. She actually reads a book a day! She is currently Head of Audience and Deputy Editor of NationalWorld news.

I hope you join the journey and that it helps you too here:

C23-03. Anne Hamilton Fowler wore Many Hats

Choose Positive Living with Sara Troy and her guest Anne Hamilton Fowler, on air from January

Laughter, sadness, empathy, outrage. Canadian Anne Hamilton Fowler appeared to have it all. However, life is not always as idyllic as it seems, and at age twenty, a series of events almost destroyed her. Emerging from the wreckage she reinvented herself, started over, and proceeded to live on the edge with a risk-taking lifestyle. Then in 1993, an event experienced during a trip to Central America changed everything.

I’ve Worn Many Hats” is an inspirational read that demonstrates our human frailties, one’s ability to survive personal adversity, and how we can learn to forgive both ourselves and others. It is a story of redemption.

“What did I learn as a writer from the experience of writing my memoir?” My answer? That I had not allowed myself closure, or actually confronted some of the traumatic incidents in my life: especially, the rape 60 years ago. Writing about and re-examining events in my past forced me to “face” each situation, some for the first time. This exercise finally gave me permission to put it all to bed; something that was very liberating! I now realize that each of us needs to recognize that “who” we are is the sum of choices we’ve made in our lives. What one chooses to do with that knowledge determines their path going forward.

Anne Fowler is a retired Canadian who divides the year between her Haliburton summer cottage and Central America. This memoir is her first book and all proceeds will go to support Anne’s ongoing humanitarian work in Honduras.

Born and raised in Toronto I grew up an only child in a traditional middle class Canadian family of the 40’s and 50’s. But my life has been anything but traditional! After finishing school my career included flight attendant with American Airlines, model, travel agent, world traveler, sales and marketing and almost 30 years in Human Resources as an entrepreneur/ business owner. I closed my company and retired in 2001 to take up another role, that of humanitarian. As someone once said when they described my various life pursuits during their introduction of me as that night’s speaker, “and she’s only 108 years old”! I live 6 months of the year in Honduras where I have spent the past 22 years developing a variety of community health and education programs.
