RG22-29 Lainie Liberti and Worldschooling

Raising our gifted children with Sara Troy and her guest Lainie Liberti, on air from July 19th

Lainie is a best selling author, international speaker, community leader, teen mentor and alternative education advocate who helped to spearhead the thriving worldschooling movement.

As a result of the 2008 California economy crash, Liberti closed her Los Angeles based branding agency. Liberti and her then 9-year-old Miro decided to “be the change” instead of victims and chose a life of adventure. After, selling all of their possessions, Lainie and her son hit the road for what was to be a one year adventure in 2009. After thirteen years and almost 50 countries, the pair calls Guanajuato, Mexico their home.

Lainie chose to educate her son Miro through the world, facilitating rich experiential learning, cultural immersion, volunteering and leadership as his school. We call this worldschooling.

MH22-29.Dr Carol Lieberman Roe v Wade Trauma

Mental Health Awareness with Sara Troy, and her guest Dr. Carole Lieberman, on air July 19th

With so much division among Americans what affect will the overturn of Roe v Wade have on mental health?

  • The Supreme Court’s overturn of Roe v. Wade means access to abortion services will be up to the discretion of individual states.

  • Numerous states are poised to severely restrict access in the coming days, while others are advertising themselves as abortion safe havens.

  • The United State’s leading mental health organization condemned the decision, saying it will worsen the country’s existing mental health crisis.

In response to the Supreme Court’s overturn of Roe v Wade, the country saw outpourings of condemnation and relief from individuals across the political spectrum.

The decision, which removed federal protection for the right to an abortion, has sparked a series of warnings from medical and economic experts alike, forecasting the severe mental health toll this reversal might take.

“This ruling ignores not only precedent but science, and will exacerbate the mental health crisis America is already experiencing,” said American Psychological Association (APA) president Frank C. Worrell in a statement.

Americans’ mental health, already in a state of decline prior to COVID-19, took a turn for the worse during the global pandemic. Compounding these trends are a shortage of mental health care providers and the economic barriers some might face when seeking treatment.

In their statement, the APA expressed “deep concern and profound disappointment” about the Supreme Court’s decision, citing decades of research that shows denial of abortion is linked with increased risks of high anxiety levels, low life satisfaction, and decreased self-esteem compared with those who are able to access the service.

The decision will also have greater effects on individuals already living in poverty, people of color, those in medically underserved areas and other marginalized groups experiencing greater socioeconomic disparities.

22-29 Be Your Seeds of Joy……

Sara’s View of Life with Sara Troy, on air from July 30th

Are you tired and run down by all the negativity out there in the world?

Are you feeling saturated by all the hate and discord?

Do you feel you have no energy or reason to go on in life?

Are you feeling trapped in a world of miserly?

THERE IS A WAY OUT AND BACK TO JOY.

Decide to plants seeds of gratitude for all you do have, and water those seeds of joy and let bloom. We must change our mindset, we must open our hearts even if we feel pain, for a closed heart cannot receive the divine’s message of clarity and love.

An open heart lets the soul’s wisdom come through enriching the heart and igniting our spirit into exuberant action thus giving our minds clarity of what we need to know when we need to know it.

Only when you decide that you are not going to feed the negativity, the doom and gloom anymore, can you start to see the solutions of hope and possibilities. You may have to say goodbye to some places and people, you may have to go into yourself and block others for a while so you can realign and set your spirit heart and soul free.

Take a deep breath and do it again until your feel relaxed and calm. Now speak positives to yourself by looking at what you have to be grateful for, and that you do have options should you seek them out. Tell people that you are unavailable for a while and place that loving value upon yourself.

Imagine, if the ONE WEEK you only amerced in positive things, do caringness and showing kindness, be around nature and all its loving good vibrations. Nature does not lie, it does not judge, it does not hate, no matter what we do to it. Being amongst such loving vibrations is so healing.

Music is a soul and heart opener and can calm an anxious mind and soul and help lift people from depression, so can nutritional’s and (some meds) that can feed our bodies what it needs to raise our energies.

Here at Self Discovery Media, we have a channel called Mental Health Awareness, and here you will find many answers on how to regain our equilibrium again and find that loving joy of living and being alive in this beautiful abundant world. When we hear that we are not alone, but others and facing challenges themselves and that they have found a way out of the maze of despair into loving joy, it shows us that we too, if we act on it can reach the same beautiful loving vibrations of joy and love our selves. After all we are the peace we seek, we are the love we seek, we are the joy and exuberance that others seek from us.

Be that solution for others by first healing yourself.

An Old Guy And A Bucket Of Shrimp

This is a story that should be told, please read and share, it is a story of gratitude. Thanks, Arlene for sending it to me.

An Old Guy And A Bucket Of Shrimp

This is a true story, hope you appreciate it and want to pass it along.

It happened every Friday evening, almost without fail, when the sun resembled a giant orange and was starting to dip into the blue ocean.

Old Ed came strolling along the beach to his favourite pier. Clutched in his bony hand was a bucket of shrimp.

Ed walks out to the end of the pier, where it seems he almost has the world to himself.

The glow of the sun is a golden bronze now.

Everybody’s gone, except for a few joggers on the beach.

Standing out on the end of the pier, Ed is alone with his thoughts…and his bucket of shrimp.

Before long, however, he is no longer alone.

Up in the sky a multitude of white dots come screeching and squawking, winging their way toward that lanky frame standing there on the end of the pier.

Before long, dozens of seagulls have enveloped him, their wings fluttering and flapping wildly.

Ed stands there tossing shrimp to the hungry birds.

As he does, if you listen closely, you can hear him say with a smile, ‘Thank you. Thank you.’

In a few short minutes the bucket is empty. But Ed doesn’t leave.

He stands there lost in thought, as though transported to another time and place.

When he finally turns around and begins to walk back toward the beach, a few of the birds hop along the pier with him until he gets to the stairs, and then they, too, fly away. And old Ed quietly makes his way down to the end of the beach and on home.

If you were sitting there on the pier with your fishing line in the water, Ed might seem like ‘a funny old duck,’ as my dad used to say.

Or, ‘a guy who’s a sandwich shy of a picnic,’ as my kids might say.

To onlookers, he’s just another old codger, lost in his own weird world, feeding the seagulls with a bucket full of shrimp.

To the onlooker, rituals can look either very strange or very empty.

They can seem altogether unimportant …. Maybe even a lot of nonsense.

Old folks often do strange things, At least in the eyes of Boomers and Busters.

Most of them would probably write Old Ed off, down there in Florida .

That’s too bad. They’d do well to know him better.

His full name: Eddie Rickenbacker.

He was a famous hero back in World War II.

On one of his flying missions across the Pacific, he and his seven-member crew went down.

Miraculously, all of the men survived, crawled out of their plane, and climbed into a life raft.

Captain Rickenbacker and his crew floated for days on the rough waters of the Pacific.

They fought the sun. They fought sharks. Most of all, they fought hunger.

By the eighth day their rations ran out. No food. No water.

They were hundreds of miles from land and no one knew where they were.

They needed a miracle.

That afternoon they had a simple devotional service and prayed for a miracle.

They tried to nap. Eddie leaned back and pulled his military cap over his nose.

Time dragged. All he could hear was the slap of the waves against the raft..

Suddenly, Eddie felt something land on the top of his cap. It was a seagull!

Old Ed would later describe how he sat perfectly still, planning his next move.

With a flash of his hand and a squawk from the gull, he managed to grab it and wring its neck..

He tore the feathers off, and he and his starving crew made a meal -a very slight meal for eight men – of it.

Then they used the intestines for bait..

With it, they caught fish, which gave them food and more bait…… and the cycle continued. With that simple survival technique, they were able to endure the rigors of the sea until they were found and rescued (after 24 days at sea…).

Eddie Rickenbacker lived many years beyond that ordeal, but he never forgot the sacrifice of that first life-saving seagull..

And he never stopped saying, ‘Thank you.’

That’s why almost every Friday night he would walk to the end of the pier with a bucket full of shrimp and a heart full of gratitude.
