23-26. GRACE AT ANY SIZE

Sara Troy on Sara’s View of Life, on air from June 27th

I’ve always believed that grace and elegance are not exclusive to slender women. Women of all sizes, shapes, and ages can exude grace. I’ve seen this in women like Oprah Winfrey and Queen Latifah, who despite being full-figured, are seen as graceful and elegant.

Grace, to me, is not just about physical appearance. It’s about the essence of a person, their tone of voice, and how they carry themselves. It’s about the aura you project, the energy you radiate. It’s about feeling comfortable in your own skin and letting that comfort and confidence shine through.

As I’ve aged, I’ve noticed changes in my body, as all women do. I’ve learned that adapting my clothing style to these changes is crucial. I’ve found that good quality fabric and the right cut of clothing can enhance my gracefulness. I’ve learned to accentuate my best features and to feel comfortable and confident in my clothing.

I’ve also noticed that the fashion industry and media often overlook full-bodied women. I believe that we need more representation of women of all sizes. We need to see more full-bodied women who look elegant, graceful, and beautiful in their own unique way.

I’ve never been a slave to the latest fashion trends. I believe in wearing what I feel good in, what represents my essence. I encourage all women to do the same. Don’t be afraid to wear that colorful dress or that patterned top if it makes you feel good. Remember, when you feel good in your outfit, you elevate yourself. You exude grace and confidence.

In conclusion, I believe that all women, regardless of their size, can be graceful. It’s all about how you carry yourself, how you feel in your clothing, and how you let your essence shine through. So, dress to feel good, and when you feel good, you will show good and do good.

AK23-25. Patrick E. Horrigan’s American Scholar, LBTQ novel.

Authors Kiss with Sara Troy and her guest Patrick E. Horrigan, on air from June 20th

Award-winning author Patrick E. Horrigan on creating complex LGBTQ+ characters amidst the backdrop of the AIDS-ravaged 1980s and the Trump-challenged 2010s, Kirkus Reviews calls his latest historical fiction novel American Scholar, A haunting, complex look at love, gay history, and the passage of time.” The book is the winner of the 2023 Next Generation Indie Book Award for LGBTQ+ Fiction.

Patrick will talk about how he created an emotional story that brews amidst the backdrop of political polarization in today’s America, and reflections on the tumultuous days of AIDS in the late 1980s.

  • The challenges of fictionalizing elements of real-life events and people, balancing the raw truth with fictional license to enlighten, entertain, inform, and inspire others
  • The complexity of story in the lives of the LGBT community – both in the AIDS-ravaged 1980s and the Trump-challenged 2010s
  • The universal themes of love, memory and self-discovery and how we all struggle with confronting our true selves
  • Why each of his books’ narratives revolve around some type of art medium
  • Why his books offer “French endings,” the way French films often end abruptly, with no resolution or neatness to the story, where characters are left in limbo, often suffering, like life itself
  • Why he tries to create LGBTQ+ characters that are complex and often ambivalent — why he avoids uplifting and overly-idealized characters
