RG22-05 Mark Wilhelmsson and “Our Child’s Keeper”.

Raising Our Gifted Children with Sara Troy and her guest Mark Wilhelmsson, on air from February 1st

Our child safety journey began just after our son Markus turned two years old.  He was sitting in his highchair eating some fresh fruit that I had cut up for him for breakfast, but little did I know that just moments later, everything would change.
As I was watching him eat, all of a sudden, he just froze. Everything stopped. I instantly knew something was very wrong, and then I realized he couldn’t breathe.  He was choking.   He dipped his head slightly and looked up at me, and in his eyes—the only way I could possibly begin to describe it—was a look of silent desperation and panic.
What I felt at my core while looking in his eyes was the sense that he was calling out to me to save him.  But here’s the thing: I didn’t know how.
Fact is, I had never learned a core set of fundamental life-saving skills that we all should know as parents, but the reality is, most parents simply do not know any of them.   I certainly didn’t… but I decided to make it my mission to change that as parents need to be prepared for the unexpected—because our children deserve it!

“I believe our children are silently begging us as parents to lead them, to be their source of protection and safety, to hold them up. They’re right, and they deserve it! Our primary responsibility is to protect and keep our children safe. It’s #1.”

RG22-05 Mark Bauerlein, From Stupefied Youth to Dangerous Adults.

Raising our gifted children with Sara Troy and her guest Mark Bauerlein, on air from February 1st

THE SEQUEL TO THE BOOK THE DEFINED A GENERATION From Stupefied Youth to Dangerous Adults
Back in 2008, Mark Bauerlein was a voice crying in the wilderness. As experts greeted the new generation of “Digital Natives” with extravagant hopes for their high-tech future, he pegged them as the “Dumbest Generation.”

Today, their future doesn’t look so bright, and their presence is pretty grim. The twenty-somethings who spent their childhoods staring into a screen are lonely and purposeless, unfulfilled at work and at home. Many of them are even suicidal. The Dumbest Generation Grows Up is an urgently needed update on the Millennials, explaining their not-so-quiet desperation and, more important, the threat that their ignorance poses to the rest of us. Lacking skills, knowledge, religion, and a cultural frame of reference, Millennials are anxiously looking for something to fill the void. Their mentors have failed them. Unfortunately, they have turned to politics to plug the hole in their souls.

Knowing nothing about history, they are convinced that it is merely a catalogue of oppression, inequality, and hatred. Why, they wonder, has the human race not ended all this injustice before now? And from the depths of their ignorance rises the answer: Because they are the first ones to care! All that is needed is to tear down our inherited civilization and replace it with their utopian aspirations. For a generation unacquainted with the constraints of human nature, anything seems possible.

Having diagnosed the malady before most people realized the patient was sick, Mark Bauerlein surveys the psychological and social wreckage and warns that we cannot afford to do this to another generation.

AK22-05 Laurel Anne Hill. A Plague of Flies.

An Authors Kiss with Sara Troy and her guest Laurel Anne Hill, on air from February 1st

YA author Laurel Anne Hill. She will discuss her latest novel, Plague of Flies, which takes readers back in time to 1846 and the western section of Mexican Alta California, on a mystical fantasy adventure. Laurel Anne will talk about why it’s important for young adult readers (teens, aged 14 and up) to read fiction. She can also discuss how research into her Mexican heritage revealed a dark secret about her ancestors — those who were threatened to let go of their land, to make way for a new railroad.

Laurel Anne Hill recently released her third novel, Plague of Flies: Revolt of the Spirits, 1846. The YA historical fantasy tells the story of a 16-year-old Mexican girl, Catalina, and her fight for her country after American invaders declare war on Mexico.

Circumstances compel Catalina to protect all those she holds dear when American invaders, called the Bear Flaggers, declare that Mexican California belongs to the United States. Faced with the imprisonment and murders of her friends, Catalina relies on guidance from people and places more powerful than herself. Catalina risks her reputation, future with the man she loves, and, ultimately, her soul to prevent the calamity she fears.

Author Laurel Anne Hill is also known for her award-winning novel, The Engine Woman’s Light. Hill has received over thirteen awards and honors including a Kirkus Star and the Kirkus Top 100 Indie Books recognition.

Laurel says about her newest book, “My Mexican great-grandmother, as a teen in US California during the 1860s, recruited Mexican ex-patriots to return to their country of birth and rid Mexico of French soldiers. Her dedication, and that of my great-great-grandmother and many others, helped restore the Mexican Republic. How could this bit of family history not inspire me to create a character such as Catalina? A brave young woman in the 1840s who learns to believe the unbelievable and accomplish what only she is meant to do?”

About the author:

Laurel Anne Hill is an author and former underground storage tank operator. She grew up in San Francisco with more dreams of an adventure than good sense or money. Her close brushes with death, love of family, respect for honor, and belief in a higher power continue to influence her writing and her life.

Laurel has authored over 30 published short stories and two award-winning YA novels, including The Engine Woman’s Light, the gripping spirits-meet-steampunk, coming-of-age heroic journey of a young Latina in an alternate 19th Century California. The Engine Woman’s Light has won a total of 13 honors and awards, including a Kirkus Star. Sand Hill Review Press released Laurel’s latest YA novel, Plague of Flies: Revolt of the Spirits, 1846 on October 16th 2021.

22-04 Donating a Difference….

Sara’s View of Life with Sara Troy, on air from January 25th.

GIVING OF ONE’S TIME, MONEY, ENERGY, AND WISDOM IS A WONDERFUL GIFT TO GIVE. I ALWAYS SAY ONE DROP MAKES A DIFFERENCE, FOR IT ADDS UP AND SPILLS OVER. It can be hard giving of one’s time, we are all so busy, we may be broke ourselves so money is hard to give, our wisdom cost us nothing to share, and our energy in exuberance can make such a difference, but what else can we give of our selves that is that one drop?

I know we are all stretched out right now, even burnt out, but when we are of service to one another, we help each other build-up, sustain, and even thrive once again. Whichever way you wish to give back, is ok, but please, in gratitude for what you have in your life, be there for others who are just trying to survive, grow, become, and stand tall in their own lives.

I donate a little (money) a lot, I can’t afford much as I am a pensioner and this network relies on donations to thrive too, but I know that if we all gave a little it would grow to be a lot and be that difference we all need to thrive once more.

So look for what you have in gratitude, and look to whom you can empower and give dignity to even in a little support in stabilizing and sustaining their own lives. Money, time, energy, wisdom, clothes, goods, whatever they need, for even a drop multiplies and become that difference in survival into thrivel of what we all need.
