AK22-05 Laurel Anne Hill. A Plague of Flies.

An Authors Kiss with Sara Troy and her guest Laurel Anne Hill, on air from February 1st

YA author Laurel Anne Hill. She will discuss her latest novel, Plague of Flies, which takes readers back in time to 1846 and the western section of Mexican Alta California, on a mystical fantasy adventure. Laurel Anne will talk about why it’s important for young adult readers (teens, aged 14 and up) to read fiction. She can also discuss how research into her Mexican heritage revealed a dark secret about her ancestors — those who were threatened to let go of their land, to make way for a new railroad.

Laurel Anne Hill recently released her third novel, Plague of Flies: Revolt of the Spirits, 1846. The YA historical fantasy tells the story of a 16-year-old Mexican girl, Catalina, and her fight for her country after American invaders declare war on Mexico.

Circumstances compel Catalina to protect all those she holds dear when American invaders, called the Bear Flaggers, declare that Mexican California belongs to the United States. Faced with the imprisonment and murders of her friends, Catalina relies on guidance from people and places more powerful than herself. Catalina risks her reputation, future with the man she loves, and, ultimately, her soul to prevent the calamity she fears.

Author Laurel Anne Hill is also known for her award-winning novel, The Engine Woman’s Light. Hill has received over thirteen awards and honors including a Kirkus Star and the Kirkus Top 100 Indie Books recognition.

Laurel says about her newest book, “My Mexican great-grandmother, as a teen in US California during the 1860s, recruited Mexican ex-patriots to return to their country of birth and rid Mexico of French soldiers. Her dedication, and that of my great-great-grandmother and many others, helped restore the Mexican Republic. How could this bit of family history not inspire me to create a character such as Catalina? A brave young woman in the 1840s who learns to believe the unbelievable and accomplish what only she is meant to do?”

About the author:

Laurel Anne Hill is an author and former underground storage tank operator. She grew up in San Francisco with more dreams of an adventure than good sense or money. Her close brushes with death, love of family, respect for honor, and belief in a higher power continue to influence her writing and her life.

Laurel has authored over 30 published short stories and two award-winning YA novels, including The Engine Woman’s Light, the gripping spirits-meet-steampunk, coming-of-age heroic journey of a young Latina in an alternate 19th Century California. The Engine Woman’s Light has won a total of 13 honors and awards, including a Kirkus Star. Sand Hill Review Press released Laurel’s latest YA novel, Plague of Flies: Revolt of the Spirits, 1846 on October 16th 2021.

BB22-05 Rob Dubin. Recipe for happiness.

Building your business with Sara Troy and her guest Rob Dublin, on air from February 1st

The Great Resignation is challenging HR departments and affecting bottom lines. Yet even the most forward-thinking companies cannot solve the problem of employee happiness on their own. The real solution is teaching employees the actual recipe for happiness – yes there is a recipe for happiness and when your staff learns it they will be far more engaged at work and more fulfilled at home….and they will stay on the job.

By my mid 20’s I was an award-winning filmmaker who owned my own company and was well paid to travel the world camera in hand doing work for numerous Fortune 500 companies. A near-death survival experience made international news and elicited a call from the President of the United States. This prompted a re-examination of life and two years later at age 42 my wife and I sold our home and moved aboard a 40′ sailboat. We spent the next 17 years living on a sailboat sailing around the world. We studied human happiness and fulfillment with both billionaires and barefoot villagers in 100 countries. I teach people a recipe for happiness. For individuals, this translates to more fulfilling careers and happier home life and for corporations, it stems from resignations and transforms workplaces resulting in increases in bottom lines.

C22-05 Simone Knego, “The Extraordinary UnOrdinary You”.

Choose Positive Living with Sara Troy and her guest Simone Knego, on air from February 1st.

Simone says “In my new best-selling book, The Extraordinary UnOrdinary You, I detail my journey of adopting three of my six children, my climb of Mount Kilimanjaro, and all of the funny, scary, and inspiring stories that came along the way”.

My goal is to help others realize that the small choices they make every day matter. We all have the power to inspire others, just by being who we are.

I have been married to my husband for 27 years and have six children. Although I graduated from The University of Florida with both a Bachelor and Master of Accounting and have my CPA, I realized early in my career that I wasn’t meant to sit behind a desk. I’m a storyteller and love talking to other people. I truly believe that you can learn something from everyone you meet.

In my early years, I earned a Master of Accounting from the University of Florida and began my professional career as a Certified Public Accountant. But I soon realized that my passion wasn’t numbers—it was helping people. This led me to become an elementary and exceptional education teacher to work with children. Today, my desire to help people has expanded into sharing my story and experiences to inspire and motivate others to make a difference in this world. I’ve done some pretty remarkable things in my life—I’ve climbed Mount Kilimanjaro to raise funds and awareness for the Livestrong Foundation, served 6 years (including one year as co-chair) in the National Young Leadership Cabinet for the Jewish Federations of North America, birthed three children, and adopted three more from South Korea and Ethiopia. I’ve authored a book and shared my story nationally as a motivational keynote speaker. And I’ve travelled the world on many philanthropic missions, including medical missions with my Neurosurgeon husband, Rob, who I’ve been married to for nearly 30 years. Every choice I’ve made is a part of my story. I’ve made some really big life choices, but it’s the small things that have impacted my life the most. For example, the familiar Jewish phrase I learned in my youth, Tikkun Olam—repair the world—has been the driving force of everything I do. It has changed my perspective on life and inspired me to write my book the Extraordinary UnOrdinary You to share the important message that what you do matters. We are—in essence—repairing the world with our small acts of kindness by simply being who we are. Each of us is unique and UnOrdinary. But sometimes we need to be reminded how Extraordinary we truly are.

In 2018 I was selected as Co-Chair of the Jewish Federations of North America’s National Young Leadership Cabinet. Through that role I had the opportunity to speak on multiple stages, sharing my story with the goal of inspiring other people to realize what they are capable of..

22-04 Donating a Difference….

Sara’s View of Life with Sara Troy, on air from January 25th.

GIVING OF ONE’S TIME, MONEY, ENERGY, AND WISDOM IS A WONDERFUL GIFT TO GIVE. I ALWAYS SAY ONE DROP MAKES A DIFFERENCE, FOR IT ADDS UP AND SPILLS OVER. It can be hard giving of one’s time, we are all so busy, we may be broke ourselves so money is hard to give, our wisdom cost us nothing to share, and our energy in exuberance can make such a difference, but what else can we give of our selves that is that one drop?

I know we are all stretched out right now, even burnt out, but when we are of service to one another, we help each other build-up, sustain, and even thrive once again. Whichever way you wish to give back, is ok, but please, in gratitude for what you have in your life, be there for others who are just trying to survive, grow, become, and stand tall in their own lives.

I donate a little (money) a lot, I can’t afford much as I am a pensioner and this network relies on donations to thrive too, but I know that if we all gave a little it would grow to be a lot and be that difference we all need to thrive once more.

So look for what you have in gratitude, and look to whom you can empower and give dignity to even in a little support in stabilizing and sustaining their own lives. Money, time, energy, wisdom, clothes, goods, whatever they need, for even a drop multiplies and become that difference in survival into thrivel of what we all need.

C22-04 Sharon Rolph, Tapping into the Boomers.

Choose Positive Living with Sara Troy and her guest Sharon Rolph, on air from January 25th

Baby Boomers have so much life ahead of them. Yet transitions can be challenging. Reconnect with your dreams and joy, build a longevity plan and define your greatness. What gives you energy, meaning, and a great reason to get out of the house? Let’s strengthen our communities and live a life without regrets, giving the best of ourselves until the end.

Potential has always been a keen interest of mine since a teenager. Now, being retired, the potential of free time combined with good health, makes Boomers a NEW RESOURCE for our neighborhoods, communities, and cities. It’s been on my heart to help professional women find a new purpose and significance after retiring. I went through some confusion, wondering how I’d know if my days were productive—when there’s no one telling me what needed to get done. Now I inspire and empower people to share the best of themselves until the end.

Sharon grew up in the Puget Sound and on a farm in Eastern Washington. She pursued an advanced education in Behavioral Science, Administration, and Technical Arts. She worked for Boeing in Tukwila and Everett, and 19 years for GTE in Everett and Tampa. She loves empowering people and finding their unique golden nugget.

She’s like a LifeSaver for discovering your heaven on earth.  (OR) She’s like a Fairy Godmother calling forth your greatness.

I’m your Retirement and Essence Coach, collaborator, and motivator who empowers you to find your new purpose in life that gives you energy, freedom, joy, and ease. Beat back isolation & depression & boredom by becoming the Director of You: become curious again, look for possibilities and give back for more vitality. Find a meaningful life intentionally – that’s your new job in retirement!

I replace employee disengagement with awareness of the best expression of each person’s Essence and DNA. Essence is your point of power and answers the WHO AM I question resulting in more employee creativity, freedom, confidence, and greatness. Does replacing job frustration, and solving the lack of employee engagement interest you?

After getting all the retiring paperwork wrapped up, I started wondering HOW would I know I had a good or productive day. Bouncing off the wall wasn’t the life I wanted for the next thirty years. Then I remembered my Essence statement was a tool I’d created a couple of months prior. I turned it into a wall hanging for daily inspiration. It really, really helps. It tells me who I am when I am at my best. When I’m living from THAT place, I know it’s a good day. It’s my Inner Spark or DNA and includes words like a jewel of wisdom and colorful collaborator. Wouldn’t you like one of your own?

I am an inspirer and creative designer who loves ideas, curiosity, and potential. If you can dream it, it is possible. I use my analytical, communication, & listener skills to help you uncover your best. And, I love creating synergy; it’s like magic!

I connect several interests of mine when I create fabric works of art. I get lost when I’m sewing, so putting words of wisdom, together with pretty colors, thereby using my gift of colors, results in inspiring mini-wall hangings. And sharing a few with students in India recently was a special joy. I also share these art blocks on a YouTube vlog and Queen of Courage on Instagram.
